I think size of the payout can have an effect to [if you paid out 0.01BTC, it would get thrown at the end of the queue for signing into a block ... although I think you should still see it with 0 confirmations in your client].
IME the pool then stuffs it into a single transaction with a larger payout, so it still gets processed rather fast.

Is there any way to tell if Proportional or PPS give better payouts for a certain MH/s?  Or are they more or less even?
I'm getting 105MH/s and I was wondering if there was a major difference between the two.  (Someone told me I should be doing proportional.)
PPS is more profitable when pool is unucky and vice versa.
It doesn't depends on your speed or pool's speed - only on pool's luck.

With difficulty as high as it is, CPU miners may be affected by their slow speed and thus be better off with PPS regardless of the circumstances of "luck".

Proportional has a nominal fee of 3%

PPS has a nominal fee of 10%

By nominal, I mean if the pool's luck factor is right on, meaning the same as the current difficulty. If you look at the difficulty history, there have been times in the past where the pool took, on average, 11% more time to mint a block. Under those circumstances, the miners who are using PPS are coming out ahead. More often than not, however, deepbit does a little better than average, so PPS would be doing a little worse. The rule of thumb generally is that if you are going to be mining 24/7, proportional is the wiser choice. If you are going to be mining on and off, or gaming while mining, you may never get a share in during a round, or perhaps only get a couple of shares; this is where it is wiser to use PPS.

Just to sum it up; with PPS, no matter how well or how poorly the pool is doing, you get a fixed rate, but come out at about 10% less than you would solo-mining. With proportional, things should equate to about 3% lower than if you were solo-mining.

At your 105MH/s, the difficulty would probably change many times before even finding a block on your own, so that is where joining a pool is beneficial; you get stable micro-payouts.

Doesn't the size of "Other" on the Bitcoin Watch pie chart bother anybody?  That is  clearly the reason for the spike in blocks per hour.  Somebody brought an IMMENSE amount of hardware online just before the difficulty increase.

Yeah that definitely caught my eye.  Perhaps Vladimir hooked up the massive stack of 6990's he posted pics of in the "Show Your Mining Rig" thread.

Side note; hey Tycho (anyone really) my lowly HD 5670 cranks out a pretty steady 65 Mhashes / sec but today at work I noticed while watching my stats it varying as high 100 and as low as 30.  I guess mebbe this has been asked before, apologies if I'm being repetitive.  If so mebbe someone could simply point me to an FAQ?

I don't know that a 6990 is worth it compared to the price of 5830, 5850 and 5870 models [even if they are now inflated due to obvious bitcoin mining demand].  I would go so far to say that the 6970 is not worth it [yet] except the 58xx series have gone up in price enough that it is close.  I think the 69xx series for mining only make sense if you use it for something besides mining [i.e. gaming or 3D work] or nothing else is available at a reasonable price anyway and you still want a card for mining despite the price.

Who knows; maybe driver updates in the future will change everything for the 69xx series.

Driver update won't help much. Coz in 5870/5970 has each GPU 1600/3200 cores, while 6970/6990 has GPU 1536/3072 cores.
So, always 5870 faster for now.
If AMD realize that AMD was not best in graphics so far, but now became the BEST to MAKE MONEY & release a GPU (HD 7000 series) with more than 1600 cores, 2000 cores at least, not much big difference will come.

Don't know if this is the right thread or not but, when i withdrew my coins, the bitcoin client (just the standard one, not any miner) shows 0.00 balance.
I have saved my bitcoin address on deepbit and double checked my wallet address as well.
Have I missed a step or is there some sort of confirmation that i need to take care of?
It's been 3 hours so far.

EDIT: I think i didn't have all the blocks downloaded, went through finally now i know lol.

Tycho: I am trying to create a new worker but each time I try it says "Access denied". My login name is "[email protected]".
Have you deleted all your workers or there were none ?

I deleted the one worked I had under the wbynum@gmail account and then tried to re-create. I also just now created a separate account ([email protected]) and get the same problem. The [email protected] account did not have any workers from the start.

It's not even 24 hours since last difficulty adjustment, it will jump up and down like that Smiley

Every time that difficulty increases, so does the variance.  You just have to mine through it.

Failure threshold, does this generate a notification or something?
Trying to figure out how i can make deepbit email/text/something when one of my clients goes offline
I also wanna be able to disable it for one client, as my gaming desktop doesn't mine 24/7
Currently it only shows the worker in red color. Notifications are not deployed yet.
