Mining not running today? I had problem earlier, maybe fixed now
Works fine at my side. Is there any packet loss between your PC and pit.deepbit.net ?

Oh, alright then. I'll stop teasing kano Wink

You shouldn't use a 24 hour mean round length because if you do a harmonic mean has to be used to find an overall mean. If you don't do that, round lengths appear longer since you're looking at an average of rates (shares per round per day). Averaging over the same number of blocks avoid this.
OK yes I see my mistake Smiley
I'm comparing apples and oranges ...
A day in time cant be compared when deciding on the average block 'luck' since bad luck blocks will of course run longer and thus affect a "daily" average more that short good luck blocks.

Poor impulse control.
Buy insurance then and you wont have to worry about luck as much.

When DeepBit has a long period of bad luck, you're covered to whatever extent you want.

Even so, we are over 10% above difficulty since the last change almost a week ago, still not very good

The longer the blocks, the greater the effect on daily luck.

If you want to compare pool luck between different periods, you need to compare round length for a set number of rounds, not per day. Compare one sequence of 50 rounds with another.

Taking a daily average will make daily luck seem, on average, bad.
Snip

Run a few sample calcs if you want. I did while I was setting up miner's insurance, and it's why I average over rounds, not days. At 30*D per day hashrate the calculated average will be 3.5% longer than it should be. I haven't gotten around to a proper proof yet, but I understand why.

Eh? No it wont.

My post wasn't really aimed at you but to let miner's know that "24hr luck" will make them think the pool's luck is worse than it is.

The only problem with looking at a daily average is ... it's a daily average (again Sample vs Population Smiley)
One day it may be low, the next day it may be high.
Compared to the long term it means nothing, but it will certainly not always be bad, it will, on average, be bad half the time and good half the time Tongue

and aside: my post was simply pointing out the worst day I know of here at deepbit, nothing about what to expect

Deepbit also has an 825% share block back around then (not the last one on that page either) and that 8x factor seems to show up in BTC mining when looking at somewhat more extreme results, so I take that as a point to note when people complain about 400% to 700% share blocks and say that 800% blocks are certainly not unexpected ...

Well you only need to go back almost 4 months for 50% (200% shares per block)

I think that might be the record worst day

I never seen it this bad in all the time I've been mining. With luck like this I might as well solo.

DeepBit miners, the answer to your variance problems is here!

DeepBit Miners Earnings Insurance bonds.

If you mine here proportionally and invest in these bonds, I pay you if the pool has bad luck. The bonds work just like PPS only at a 1.5 to 1.8% fee.

Please PM me or post to the MEI.DEEPBIT.A thread for more information

Site doesn't looks slow to me at all and I don't see any pool's hashrate decline, so it may be caused by connection problems with some specific part of the internet, may be. Checking this.

yep I get connection time out's ever few seconds
