I started working in the cryptocurrency space freshmen year of high school and just finished this year. I am currently 17, turning 18 in two months. I decided to take time off before I go to college (if I go), and get more experience in the cryptocurrency field because this is the perfect mix of everything I was interested in as a child. And to be realistic, during high school I was way more interested in working in the space than my classes, especially enjoyed going to conferences.

Currently I am working at a cryptocurrency ATM company, and previously worked for a blockchain consultant firm for an early pioneer of the field.

What I am looking for is new opportunities to bring bitcoin adoption to the world and / or new cryptocurrency related experiences. I am open to helping new startups (for free) or help improve existing startups. I can do a little bit of everything (marketing, business development, networking, coding, etc), but definitely not perfect at one particular thing.

This is not me asking for funds of any sort, though not rich, I am already content with having just enough money to get by as a young adult.

Please reach out if you have any opportunities!

I actually have a question about conferences related to cryptocurrency. Do you know of any in the Tampa, FL area? Or just a list of some in general? Would love to attend one!

I know that LBRY is always looking for new contributors to their project.
Given the fact that you have some coding skills, it could be the perfect project to get yourself acquainted with, since they accept contributions in a wide variety of languages (Python, C++, NodeJS, etc.)

Reading about your specific skill-set, it could be a great fit, since they need contributors on both the development and marketing side of things.

Have a look at these resources:

https://lbry.com/
https://lbry.tech/contribute

Just to give you a a quick summary of what LBRY is all about:

It's an open-source digital content marketplace, currently mostly being used as a decentralized video hosting platform (similar you Youtube).

For the OP it would really help if you have a online profile of some sort where enployers or business startups can see what you could offer to them, maybe creating a Linkedin profile can serve as your online resume for them. The problem here is even though you are offering your services for free you haven't graduated in any college program so startups might not be even interested in what you are offering. So maybe enrolling in a 2 yr vocational course will help your career to pan out.

This is my LinkedIn. I have startups paying for my services right now and are very satisfied, though I want to help with adoption in bitcoin so I want to help other startups that are trying to achieve this but is not for-profit or community driven.

Dustin,

How are you?  We are in the process of having a coin developed.  Our coin is a fork from Pivx. We need several things for our coin and project.  I would like to know where you are located?  And also, how much would you charge per hour?

Messaged you with some questions.

Nice story there, Dustin. I think if you can do some bit of coding, then participating in open source development is one way to contribute to this world. There are tons of project out there with open source code that I believe you can contribute to.

That being said, I guess you can contact most OP in this thread that is looking for coder/marketer/contributors or something similar. You can also spend your time in Development & Technical discussion as some of the new projects might post their info there. Good luck with increasing your skills.

I think I am going to dedicate most of my time on grin or bitcoin core. Thank you!

Don't do the mistake of trying to set aside your classes for cryptocurrency or any single niche.
You say you worked as an consultant? A 17 year old consultant? You might have been exposed to crypto for a long time but what gives you any business credibility that you'd go out and consult people on what to do with their business money?

If it seems like I am being harsh with you then there is reason behind that. For a long time in my early career I was doing the wrong thing and that made me habituated to just one way of working. In cryptocurrency space there is abundance of hype marketing and jobs that in other industries have no relevance. Say for example if you spend you days managing a discord group or a telegram group, what experience do you take away from that as a professional? a kid could do that kind of job, and that is exactly what you are.
Give more importance in skill development at this time of your life rather than going to conferences. Without proper skill you will be nothing. And I wish you listen to what I say and make something of yourself someday.

I was not consulting anyone on crypto when working at the consultant firm, rather, I was just helping out in everyday operations and seeing how it was ran. This taught me a lot about what I did not like about the industry, such as what you mentioned on the hype marketing and just bad business practices in general. Thanks for being honest though, there is definitely a lot that is wrong with how things are ran and the philosophy of many of these companies right now.

When I ask in this group for new opportunities that I can help with, I was mainly looking for open sourced projects (right now I am looking at grin and bitcoin core) or projects focused on crypto adoption and would never take a role in some random coin in a discord group or telegram group.

Also, I'm fairly confident in the fact that my time would be much more valuable working in good projects and my current job at the said Bitcoin ATM company. I was fortunate enough to have experience in college classes at a young age and while in high school, at a prestigious university, and that never appealed to me after the first couple of months, the crypto industry drawn me and I was focusing on that no matter what classes or project I was working on. Though I do plan on going back if this does not work out but the thought of rather my work was in the middle of school or school in the middle of my work was always on my mind and I wanted to see.

Well, I'd suggest you to start contributing to the Bitcoin Core. It isn't easy and certainly needs a high level of coding skills but you'd learn more in that than helping someone like the above post "Become a manager of my discord chat". The money will come with time and there is no harm in taking small projects but keep learning as your priority. Bitcoin Core is just an example you can pick up any open-source project for instance and dedicate some amount of your time for the betterment of the community.

Learning is definitely a priority. I am mostly looking for projects that is open sourced or that I can see the value of so I will not be doing any of the "discord manager" stuff. Right now, I am leaning towards helping grin or bitcoin core, or anything that can adoption in general.
