Altcoins will always have a future in the cryptocurrency market. All of them are a means to an end to get more Bitcoin but Ethereum has proved itself to be a successful altcoin. I think others might follow the same path if they have a real use case in the world.

Interesting read:
https://www.cnbc.com/2017/09/27/japanese-banks-cryptocurrency-j-coin.html

Japanese banks are thinking of making their own cryptocurrency called the J-Coin
Japanese banks are looking into their own digital currency called the J-Coin
Mizuho Financial Group is one bank spearheading the efforts that are in the "early stages"
The J-Coin will be pegged to the yen and users will be able to spend it through a mobile app

Some of the alts are actually doing pretty great. For example look at Waves which got into partnership with Burger King in Russia and then there is OMISEGO which has recently partnered with McDonalds.

Just give time to Altcoins and soon they will act as a currency that will give benefits to the people that will used them.

Since currently that altcoins is more used on trading, the actual used of it is not being used. That's why active developments is a must on those alts. Good example for it NEM and NEO.

It is really hard to predict, maybe some will stay but most will vanish.
I think the value is in the tech created here . That will be here to stay for sure.

Today there are 1130 Cryptocurrencies in the crypto world according to coinmarketcap. Some altcoins will rise, some will fall. It would be wrong to talk for all of them. I trust bitcoin more than altcoins.

You can also trust etherium. This is very amazing altcoin with big future! Thanks to Buterin.

My personal opinion, Ethereum is the real competition of Bitcoin. Other alts are promising too.

But really, what is bitcoin? It is the pioneer of cryptocurrency, hence overpriced and can only really make transactions. Considering how much environmental damage BTC causes for the technology that it gives, it is an incredible waste of resources. It will likely never be picked up by businesses as a means of transferring money, it is way too volatile. If we are talking about 6+ figures, would you risk accepting money in BTC for a service, knowing that there is potential for the money to lose value before you are able to cash out? There is a lot to improve...

Bitcoin is and will be the leader for a very, very long time, but I don't think this will always be the case.

There are coins out there that have a much greater potential. They utilise blockchain technology in a way that most people didn't even think is possible.

A select few altcoins do have a great future. As an investor the main points that I look out for:
-What is the direct application in real life?
-Why is a decentralised system better than a traditional?
-How will this benefit users over traditional systems?
-How likely is this to be adopted by the general public?
-Quality of team (size, dedication, communicability etc)

There are other factors to consider, but the above are most important for me.

There are pearls up for grabs out there ladies and gentlemen. Don't be afraid to take a well-educated risk. We are seeing the slow birth of a new age, those who are sleeping now will miss out.

Just don't let investing become gambling - make sure you leave enough money to secure the well-being of your family...

As long as there are people mining or running nodes, these coins will have a future. The big question is whether this is a bright future or not.

I would say less than 1% of these coins will have a great future, and the profit might be huge for those who identify them.

Honestly, I don't think cryptocurrencies (in the form in which we know them today) have long-term perspectives. It is an innovation and it will changing. If imagine the crypto-future, I see many really narrowly focused projects like gaming, e-commerce, market-focused ets. Will stay alive only cross convertable coins.

Of course Altcoins really have a future but like with anything though, do the research and make your own decisions.

I believe we will end up with a handful of altcoins (10-12), each serving different markets or services.
I think that there will be around 30 coins that exist. we have more than 100 countries so why dont we have more than 10 coins? They are good and they can be used anywhere if you have the internet connection

Just now I got to know that China has banned the initial coin offering. Everybody is trembling about the future of bitcoin hence the Altcoin is obviously. I have also holding of some Altcoin but can't decide that should I sell it now or wait for better value. If, China effect would be followed by other country then it is definitely a serious effect on the Altcoin I think. Currently how many countries basically allowing ICOs.

honestly, just diversify by fundamentals ie) what service/ vertical does the problem/ issue it's solving. Put some in finance, computing, platforms, storage, etc. then just forget about it. obviously keep a hefty % into the main coins btc, eth, ltc, and hedge it a bit (bcc, etc, etc.)

i think all the alt coins that are top 20 have a bright future, just give it time. it's all about portfolio management.

Check the projects with real development and product such as peerguess, tezos, neo, adex, monaco. They're all promising ones and they will obtain a strong position in the future permanently.

Today we can see that a lot of different altcoins appear. But many of them disappear as quickly as they appear. But there are some very successful and promising among them. So, I think that qualitative altcoins will be in the future.
then we as a smart investor does not just choose the crypto currency project that is not clear the future prospects how, choose like GUTS because this project there is a buyback system so you do not have to worry and you can try order tickets in the sandbox (link can be seen in the my signature).
