If you have a friend whom you can trust and who is well versed in cryptocurrency, then surely this would be the best solution to take advantage of his knowledge. Otherwise, you will be forced to figure it out on your own, but if you need any help, you can ask for help on this forum.

Whether or not to have a mentor depends on each person's preference.
Whether you need one or not depends on how you learn to trade properly.

I learned trading only by myself and there is no mentor,
maybe just look at some basic knowledge and continue to develop it by combining several strategies and using available indicators.

Mentor may be like a real road sign, and it will be a warning when we go wrong.

Like most members have said above, it’s better you do your own research and learn for yourself. But I understand everyone is not the same and every person has his unique own learning pattern, if yours is mentorship then you can go ahead but I would advise you find a mentor who is experienced in the crypto field. Getting a high value mentor is cool, but have you considered the cost? No successful individual would give his time and knowledge for free.

If you want to have a mentor, then look for someone who can truly be trusted and has the ability to be your mentor. It is widely believed here, in any case, especially if it concerns the money you are going to invest.

Mentor actually functions to help you learn and carry out activities in crypto. In fact, this will be even better because you can have discussions with people who can really help you directly. You're right. There are many sources, we can easily get them through this forum or googling on internet. It is not impossible to learn Bitcoin without a mentor. However, if we have a mentor, he can give a suggestion which part to learn first and which to learn later. It can make us to learn more effectively. A mentor also can share his real experience in Bitcoin journey. But the problem, it is not easy to get a trusted mentor. I personally never get a person that I can believe to be my mentor. So, I just learn myself and do everything with my own way.

In additional to all the contributions that has been made regarding your question, I think you don't need a personal mentor rather you need knowledge which can easily be gotten from being a part of the forum which you are already and asking for help by asking necessary questions and making more research to verify the information that you receive here.

You can also get so many knowledge on reading  some threads that is related to what you can learn from I believe you will increase your knowledge on cryptocurrency.

A mentor is not really necessary. Information is easily available through many sources. You can learn a lot from reading newsletters, visiting forums or watching YouTube videos. There are many diverse ideas within the Bitcoin community. Someone who is trusted by many people is Andreas Antonopoulos. He is a great educator but you don't want to rely on a single person's advice. There are many complex and sometimes even controversial issues which you will need to form your opinions independently.

There is nothing wrong in having a mentor. It is only wrong when you over-rely on the mentor's advice or judgements.  The essence of getting a mentor is to learn from the person or those who have great experience in that particular field you are pursuing.  Why learning from them, you do your homework.  Do your research, read threads and posts, ask questions where you are not clarified. Dedicate your time to learning from all sources.  When you do your personal researches, you will know when your mentor is digressing.  Remember no one knows it all and you alone is accountable for all your investment decisions.

The importance of a mentor in every works of life cannot be overly emphasised as it has numerous advantages to you been the mentee but that doesn't assures you of success, you must work hard your self to be able to achieve desired results while still under the guidance of your mentor. One advantage of a mentor is you tend to make fewer mistakes than you would have without a mentor.

A mentor will guide you from his level of experience and make sure you don't make the mistakes he made while growing, this will help fast track your journey and you go far in a shorter time than you would have doing it all alone. In the crypto space you definitely need a mentor wether directly or indirectly because no one is an island of knowledge in this space so you need someone who has a level of experience more than you do to guide you pass some stgaes and avoid certain costly mistakes.

Every man can be a mentor to himself one way or the other, it really just simply lies down to how actually just handle the whole situation because just like every other person out there who one wants to grow you first need to make research by yourself and then after making and gathering your own knowledge I think asking of possible questions for proper orientation and guidelines will probably be of help to successful starting your journey and it's as simple as that just make sure you continually follow up with the trend and you will find out that being a self mentor is probably best in the world of cryptocurrency.

I don't know about you or anyone else but i think you can both have a good mentor or a bad one if you decide to hope on someone to be your mentor, the cryto world is very vast and no one actually fully understand it's so everyone is actually tangling on mere speculation and with knowledge they have gathered for themselves so you making research is actually going to be a good plan to start up.

You have just said the right thing , in bitcoin investment having a mentor does not not really count if people will do well what matters is individuals effort on making research to do things right. Having a mentor is good if one is lucky to have who is worth being a mentor,  and looking for a mentor can lead someone entering a wrong hand that can be a problem.

Bitcoin is something people can do by themselves if only they give themselves the time to make research which will expand their knowledge of making them on how to go about an investment.  Their is no much need to get mentor when everything is online and not even complicated to understand.

A newborn baby needs care and attention to grow because they don't know anything at all, they don't know what's good or bad for them since they don't have any sense or understanding or any abilities whatsoever, however, you might not have knowledge about Bitcoin but you are probably literate, know how to use the internet, how to use Google or YouTube or any other platform to search for content and to watch and read and understand what you are watching and reading.

So, you don't really need someone to guide you at every single step in the learning process or even after that unless you say that you don't know anything and you can't even use an electronic device and this post was also made by someone else sitting beside you, if that's the case, you might have a hard time in learning and understanding everything.

They are so lucky at early stage of participation in crypto they already found this forum where they can learn a lot of information if they are just doing some extra efforts on researching those information's available around the corner. Not everyone can easily locate this forum since it needs deep research before they can go here if no one will tell its existence. And since they are already here they can ask any questions and for sure to many learnings they can possibly pick up if they are hard working.

The problem with other is they only want to get spoon feed since they are lazy for seeking or verifying the information they receive. They didn't realize that doing that is not good to them since they can't learn anything by relying to much on other people.

DYOR is the only way to start and find some resources  and in additional this forum will be your school cause you can learn here a lot of things about cryptocurrency and Bitcoin. You can ask and it will be answer by our forum members. Also Op it needs more time but only thing. I assure it will  worthit  cause knowledge is shareable but once you have that it will not be stolen by everyone's. In addition good luck to your crypto  journey OP .

I'd learn about Bitcoin through searches and learn more when doing it in actuality. We can have someone to teach us but still, we have to do more searches as well rather than relying on that person because you are right, that person never knows everything about Bitcoin yet, he is still learning more.

It's not necessary but having a mentor when you are learning something new will definitely accelerate your studies. However, finding a good mentor that wiling to share their knowledge is quite hard, in any field of knowledge, especially Bitcoin which is fairly new stuff. Some people might refuse to become a mentor not because they are arrogant, but because they feel like they are still lack of the knowledge even though they already know much, and with new technology like Bitcoin it will more likely to happened. Even if you can't find any mentor you could still learn so much about Bitcoin in this forum.

It is very difficult to follow a mentor with the current scams so rather than following a specific mentor goes to the experienced people on the forum and learn more about the science Learn information that will enhance your journey forward.If advice is given then all work is easier, there is nothing wrong with it, it is better, but if you want to be misinformed or lead in wrong direction, it is better to avoid those people as much as you can do not too reclusive because whenever you become too dependent on others for a task, your weakness will be exploited and steered in the wrong direction.Lastly mentors are good, but my one suggestion is to know more about forum experienced people or rules here and take this forum as a mentor Better not to follow But if you have someone you trust close to you who will push you forward, think of that person as a compliment giver.

Developing your own potential will be better than having to look for a mentor who is not really close to you. whether for trading or investment. you are already in this forum, there is a lot of information that might help you. If you are still having trouble, you can also ask here. like your thread, and gradually you will grow by yourself.

if you have already appointed a mentor in your real world. that you can find at any time. My advice is not to share your exchange account or access to your wallet with him. make sure everything is in your control, only you.

It's good to have a mentor but I don't think one is necessary for Bitcoin but it's good incase there is something you want to learn fast but with comes with disadvantages, like you may learn something about bitcoin in wrong way. If you know how to read and write, starting from the beginning shouldn't be that hard to grasp everything you need to know about bitcoin, just start from beginning to advance option, you will get it in no time.

Also, reading public opinion on forum like bitcointalk and other places like stack.bitcoin.exchange are good resources and the correct opinions are giving more merit and stars for people to understand the best response that suit the question.

Having a mentor is not a bad idea but you need to be carefull in doing that. In having a physical mentor how trustworthy, secured and sure are you about that person. What is the reason of having a mentor? To put you through, questions and answers? that can be done in the forum. Whenever you are finding things difficult, just ask your questions and from the replies you have to pick your mentor by reading others post, you will get a very good answer to your questions .
We have alot of Guru's in this forum ,if you're able to find them you problems are sloved, read anything that has to do with Bitcoin and cryptocurency and use your search engines to find answers.

Bitcoin is transparent, it would be better for you to have a public mentor than a private one. This forum clearly has competent people in every field of bitcoin (technical, trading, etc.) who won't mind sharing what you want to know. Don't worry about your privacy either, here you will also be shown openly what you should keep secret.

It's good to have mentors mostly when it has to do with the path on which one is travelling.
A mentor could be anyone who has gone farther than where one is and is like a guide and standard to be followed.
If you think you can learn on your own without any help, as long as this forum exist, I believe you can get answers to any questions regarding BTC and you will get good answers to point you in the right direction.

I don't see anything wrong with someone having mentors when starting his or her Bitcoin journey. I will even say it helps a lot, and that can make someone understand things very well and fast about Bitcoin, especially when someone has very good crypto-knowledgeable mentors. You will be learning things about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency step by step according to the way someone supports learning them, not jumping from side to side without a proper understanding. But when you don't have someone who has good knowledge about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, I will advise you to learn it on your own online because nowadays there are many people outside there who claim to have good knowledge about Bitcoin but can't even differentiate between custodial and non-custodial wallets and how Bitcoin works. But also know that personal research is necessary online despite having a mentor because someone learns everything from a mentor.

I was introduced to this forum by a friend, and same way I'm sure over 90% of the people here were also introduced by someone into this forum, so having a mentor is one of the best thing anyone can get in whichever career such person intend to journey through, as with a mentor you stand the chance of understanding a concept far more better & easier than when you try figuring it out alone all by yourself with your layman understanding. 
So if you have anyone who you think has better knowledge about Bitcoin, I will advice you to humble yourself and learn, and stop stressing yourself on Google for hours over what you can be taught by a mentor in few minutes.

Ops if you want to go far and fast then you must have a mentor who will be your shortest route to. get to where you want to be because we can't underrate the possibility and speed that are granted to those who operate with a compass in any aspect of life, and in the carrier, you must sail with a compass and that compass is your mentor who serves as a guardian on your way up to avoid any possible crisis in the cause of chasing your goal.

The answer of mine is,  yes I think in this journey having a mentor can give some extra progress in your learning.Look, you can get all these online for free on the journey you want to take, but it would be better if you start your learning step by step but initially, And initially many people face problems while learning them, and don't understand them. Yes you have to consult someone who is good on bitcoin to help and guide you so you won't mislead yourself and also make research after the mentor has instructed you what to do and also make some research and ask him. You can also ask some disturbing questions here so the experts will guide and tell you what to do. But the personal experience is the best way to learn, but no man is an island, knowledge is always share so a mentor is needed to safe guide you in the journey.

You can never learn better than if you can learn something on your own. Whenever you go to learn with the help of people it can teach you wrong and lead you down the path of scams. Well, no one teaches you everything. If you do not have interest from the inside and cannot learn, no one will be able to teach you. Many of my friends ask me how I make my pocket money, and I share with them what I do in my free time. They know about Bitcointalk, but they are clueless about it. I explained to them almost what I was able to explain.

They don't think they can do what I am doing now. The reason is they do not have a genuine interest in joining the discussion. Most of the newbies join the forum with the hope that they will rank up their profile over night. I wish I had someone who teach me in the beginning.

I think the progress of learning would be so much faster if you have a mentor compared to your own. If you can find someone worthy enough and legitimate that could act as your mentor then do it. If not, you can do it for yourself and just read on your own. PLUS you already are a member of Bitcointalk so you could ask here or find the necessary resource for this one.

There is no bad in having a mentor as they will be your guide in building you up to  standing strong on your feet before you could be thinking of becoming an authority but when it comes to crypto, one needs be extra careful though when it comes to things of this nature.  You may have like two or more mentor if you may wish so as to aid you learn very fast and broad so as to allow you acquire more knowledge as the case maybe.

So I will say it is very necessary for you to have a mentor because two heads is better than one. But if it's just a stranger whom you only know online and he claims that he has successful bitcoin journey, then never waste your time on him. What you need is to learn carefully about Bitcoin from varied valid sources. You actually don't really need a mentor. TBH, I also never have a mentor, I learn Bitcoin myself. I realize that it is not easy to get a trusted mentor as well. It is not recommended if you try to get mentor in any social media. You need to know well the person who you consider to be a mentor. Op, since you are new to Bitcoin, having a mentor who will guide you in your Bitcoin journey is not a bad idea because your mentor will guide you in certain things like the wallet to use in storing your Bitcoin, protecting your private key, and never storing your Bitcoin in a centralized exchange. Never forget to do your research on Bitcoin even when you have a mentor so that it will enable you to understand the fundamentals of Bitcoin, and you will be able to tell someone about Bitcoin

There is need for anyone to underrate the power of mentorship because we all have to learn whatever we have through some form of direct and indirect mentorship at some point and that will help us to arrive at our destination on time and also avoiding some of the possible mistakes that should have affected their movement in that particular field.

In fact, part of your journey in cryptocurrencies is discovering all the videos and references for your support. It is not required or recommended to have a mentor on your Bitcoin journey because you can learn yourself by doing some research and asking questions here in the forum if there's something you find it hard to understand or asking if the forum members know any source to learn Bitcoin. If you feel you can't do it then why not have a mentor on your journey. Honestly, I my brother-in-law didn't teach me what I know today because he only taught me about bounty campaigns until I stop joining bounties and learn about cryptocurrency by myself through research and asking questions here in thr forum.

It's up to you to lecture yourself, in this field it's you and yourself only, I never had anyone teaching me anything about crypto and I made so many mistakes all along but here I am today, I am not a crypto pro but my mistakes makes me a better crypto man, my level of skills in crypto space is now better than two years back.

I don't think you need to spend more time looking for a mentor who will teach you about the world of crypto, even if you intend to pay for it, but I'm not sure that someone will teach you everything about things related to the world of crypto. Yes, you need a mentor but it's not a requirement. If you've one, fine. If you don't, it's still ok. Mentorship will help you stand on the shoulders of giants so you can see far and well ahead in the industry/business you're getting into. It's not just in the crypto industry alone. It's in all facets of life. If you can get one who will have time commitment to you and be willing to impact your journey with or without tasking you financially, stick to such one. I got here by a stroke of luck; never had a mentor. I had to learn the ropes by myself and I believe it took me a longer time to get to the point I'm right now than it would've had I had a mentor. A mentor would've jump started me, I believe.

You do not need a mentor in your journey in Bitcoin just get the experience on your own, or from the people who can serve you as knowledge already, and it's up to you how you manage and grow those skills, common recently there's a lot of pretending person that they are willing to help you but at the end of the day after getting to know your comfort they will start their plan its a common scheme of scamming other people, so don't fall on it easily. Also in decision its on your own, don't let other people decide where to invest, go altcoins, go bitcoin, play gambling and etc. All in your own risk and decision.

It depends on the type of mentor that you can come across. If it is a good mentor, that is fine, but if it is a bad one, you better not. Making proper research can be very helpful, and also making proper personal decision afterwards can make you do better along the path.

Your biggest and best tutor is open source, free resources because Bitcoin is designed for open source codes and it opens a gate, chance for everyone with free resources too.

You don't have to look for people to be your tutors. By chance, you can meet your tutors but before they come to you, stop looking for them but start to learn with open source code and free resources. They are always here for you to explore about Bitcoin.

Why trading and trader?

Again, newbie talks about trading. I hope you won't learn your hard lesson from trading.

OP is a newbie and should start with investing, holding, securing his wallet and coins safely. Backing up wallet safely for recovery in future.

Trading, I am against it for newbies in Bitcoin market.

In Bitcoin there's a popular phrases "don't trust, verify", since you can't verify human mind, you can't trust anyone.

So the best choice is start to learn from scratch, are you already trust in Bitcoin? if not then watch the video about banks vs Bitcoin. The next step is learn about centralized exchange, decentralized exchange, non custodial wallet, custodial wallet, ways to save your seed phrase, read some basic security etc.

This is not to say that there aren't some excellent courses and trading techniques being taught, but using them does not ensure trading success.

On the other hand, even if you do manage to find a successful trader who is prepared to teach you, it will probably cost a fortune, and it still won't ensure your success.

It is not nice for anyone to underrate the power of mentorship. Whoever embarks on a journey with a mentor is slightly going to arrive his destination faster and smoothly. A  Mentor is someone who has passed through the phase of life that you are currently passing through. But anyone that discovers this forum may not have the need for a mentor anymore. Here is  just like having so many mentors and it is now at your own discretion to choose which mentor our group of mentors that you will listen.

Doing research first about what we are going to do would be very good because we can find out whether the thing we are going to do is suitable or not, if it is not suitable for us it is better not to do it because it could be a problem and only last a short time no we can't produce anything. If we can observe ourselves, it will be very useful because we can find out what we can do or not. As for me, I didn't have any mentor that guided me. Youtube guided me as well as this forum thru different threads. Youtube documentaries lead me to various knowledges. Threads here in the forum added some information that I needed. I didn't have a mentor, since most of the information can already be found online. I mean it's up to you if you need a mentor or not, but as for me, having one is good, but not having one isn't the end of the word because there's a thing called self-learning.

So when you are planning to join the crypto space, if you have someone that can guide you, then it’s also a good idea, but you also need someone that’s kind of reliable. Also, because you have a mentor who is going to guide you, that does not mean you should depend on the person alone. Make sure you still do more research and accumulate knowledge about crypto by yourself. There are things that you are supposed to hide from your mentor, like your private key. I could say that learning about Bitcoin is easy as we can a lot of information online but some of this information is not true. We can find it by ourselves but having a mentor is not a bad idea either provided that you never have to pay him/her huge. I have done some reading and checked other stuff here,but it seems more people are quite addictive on casinos so maybe, I might get a hang of making an app based on what I'm seeing. A long way for me to go before these happens 

You should first get knowledge from different mentors and do not rely all on your knowledge because sometimes, you are taking one thing for another and get into confusion and the doubts and queries in your mind during your own research will be there and will become a problem for you. So to overcome them you do need a mentor

But mentors are not free, you might get answers to your 1 or 2 queries on YT or any Fb Channel in the comments but if you have more than 1 or 2 queries then you do have to buy a paid membership of some good mentor. But be careful in cryptocurrency, not every mentor is the one who they are telling you they are.

You have to be smart enough to judge a good one, try to do some research on google on how to find a good mentor, and then try to search differently on Social media.

There are many ways to scam you most especially a total newbie, yes the first scam can be from request by the scammer to have you pay for services that are actually free but that isn’t the biggest threat. The threat is when the person or probably scammer guiding you set u up to give them things like seed phrases or keys which automatically make them co-owner of your wallet. Someone without knowledge would gladly do that even though it seems a trick that can be dictated by a pro.

You are asking a very dumb question, Your question must be like which mentor should I follow in my Bitcoin journey. And you are in doubt, that whether you should have a mentor or not. I mean, in all fields of the universe, a mentor (a loyal and good one) is like a BTC to early adopters. You should find one and when you will find a good one try to refer it to other newbies too.

It is not like, that hard to find a good mentor, but in the BTC sphere, you will come to face many fake mentors who will pretend like they are better than anyone else and you only need them. And in the end, they will be the first to scam you with your money in the form of huge fees.

It is better to not rely on mentors fully, try to educate yourself by making your own efforts. Because spoon feeding is not going to work in the BTC era. You have to make efforts on your own. And you do have to leave your comfort zone.

I think you have to read a lot to increase your knowledge about cryptocurrencies, getting guidance from seniors is good but you can't keep bothering them, I was a beginner too but I didn't have a mentor to increase my knowledge, I read a lot and I just asked a few trusted members a little, believe me as long as you read well and painstakingly your insight into Bitcoin will develop.

Mentor will help you make your journey a little easier as you will have who to ask question about things that get you confused if it’s a good one they will have to help you iron things down to the level of your understanding then from their base on your acquired knowledge you can do your own learning, do some search online both in this forum and develop your own self to establish that knowledge that you need to excel in the industry.

The best mentor that one need is one self you can only bring out the best version of your self towards what you want to achieve if you can train your self to reach that heights.

Don't think that you'll make a mistake upon your move although that could really happen for the first timers and there will be a valuable lesson with that mistake. But if you just stick to the plan that you'll make like holding and you won't sell anytime then just so be it.

You can think of those reading materials and the authors of it as your mentors, so it could be both. There is absolutely nothing wrong for someone to seek a mentor or guide on things you don’t know but the problem has always been finding that right person to guide someone most especially if it is something that has to do with money. Just like others have started I would say this forum offers you with those guide you need.

There is no better teacher than your own experience, so whenever you wish to learn a thing and you’re finding it difficult you can just use the forum search engine to find out or create a thread when you can’t find answers, there are experts on bitcoin matters here.

Also just one last piece of advise do not rely totally on any financial advice here without carrying out your own research

A mentor is can be referred to an adviser. I don't think it is a bad idea to admire someone who you think is knowledgeable about Bitcoin and gain some vital information from them. I have contacted some persons personally to seek clarification on several issues relating to Bitcoin and it has been very helpful. Following people on social media that you think are sound can be also helpful. But it is important to always verify the information you get from your mentor this is why you need other sources of information. There is no information that you need about bitcoin that cannot be accessed through books and the internet.

I prefer not to have close ties with any individual because people can change their ideology and mentees can be easily influenced by mentors. Some Bitcoin early adopters lost faith in the coin and began to promote FUD and altcoins. People that saw these derailed early adopters as their mentors can be easily deceived that is why it is important to do your own research in most cases.

If having a mentor is free why not?
However, the knowledge of a mentor is limited you still need to research and ask to other experts, or here on the forum always remember smart people always ask questions.
