Actually if you buy an altcoin it doesn't have to be the top 100 in CMC. But buying when the market is red will be better, the cheap price is suitable for investment. But everything is like speculation and nothing is certain.

There is quite a big risk in investing in altcoins that are in top 100 too. I think my portfolio is actually based more from alts that are ranked 100-300 because I'm not even paying so much attention to current market cap and it's ranking. I'm more for active team and development of project and that intrigues me to learn more about it and to invest. So yeah, there's always some risk, investing in top 100 or not, but this shouldn't be the major point when looking in what to invest.

not necessarily the altcoins that are not included in the top 100 altcoins are at risk. lots of altcoins are not top 100 but have good prices on the market. if we choose the right altcoin, the benefits will be more.

Of course it is risky, because those currencies have very low market capitalization and it is very easy to get price manipulation.However, if you're lucky, you can earn a lot of money in a short time.
it depends on what state the market is in. if at the time of the bull market. The top 100 coins are mostly safe. When the market is in a bear market, the ranking of coins is unreliable. u need to be cautious. u better study the coin itself.
If you accept bigger risk then invest into low market cappitalization coins, but you do not know if the project will success.
right what you say, investing in altcoins that aren't listed at 100 best does have a big risk. but if the development of the coin is rapid then you will get a bigger profit than you expected.
