I think it's best not to tell anyone about your money. People are assholes. I just read a story of a 70 year old man who was held at gunpoint by criminals who knocked on his door, demanding the key for his safe. Stupid criminals, because it narrows it down to people who know the 70 year old guy, and that he has a safe. But the point is, if you have a safe, and a criminal friend just happens to see as they walk by, then you instantly become a target, even if you're just using a safe to hide your Playboys. So I keep quiet.

Actually I don't. Because in the first place I'm not the type of person that will just tell someone what I'm doing in my life, I won't tell someone until they asked me and it depends if I trust them enough or not. But most of the person don't know about the bitcoin so that's why I don't tell it on public because if I do there are gonna be a lot of explanations that's gonna happen.

Well you don't have to be that kind of person to bring up a topic of bitcoin. I always bring it when we talk about earning some spare money.

Not to the public like people you did not know.  But I do tell it to my friends and always telling it to my special someone and to my family.  They will most likely to believe you and listen to you rather than random persons.  I tell them how I earn extra profit and how does it work. They just listen and would ask question but not will try to do it on their own.

Why not? it isn't illegal and is now being adopted quite a bit, look at the recent Circle Pay - Apple collaboration as an example, maybe back in the day when all you heard relating to bitcoin was illegal activities etc it would be a bit hush hush to talk about bitcoin.

Now we have banks using the blockchain and it is overall looking a lot more positive for bitcoin, the same with cash and any other form of currency there will always be the bad bunch but the good usually always outweighs the bad.

Yes, of course, its not like taboo to me, i tell everyone
Same here, I'm often mentioning about bitcoin around my friends and family, don't see a reason why I should hide this fact. Most of them are truly interested in the subject, so I take
this opportunity and explain as simple and attractive as I can, what bitcoins are and how to collect it. Often a good conversation starter, because in general people are hungry of new and innovative technology.

Is Bitcoin still considered shady in the public opinion or government opinion?

From 2011:
It's not a secret CIA dudes read this forum. I tried for long time to keep my nationality obscured but eventually I've blown it.

I've also found out that Romanian Intelligence Service keeps noting on Romanians that use Bitcoin. Not for the security of the state but for personal reasons. Please note that in Romania, a country with 22.000.000 people there are officially 200.000 mobile phone taps.

I think it's a "Nerd" technology and not all using this form of payment for "black" purpose like selling drugs , weapons etc...

Sometimes I'm telling to my friends that I use bitcoin. I'm trying to explain them how it works, why bitcoin is good. But mostly are not interested in bitcoin. And mostly mid-age people hardly can understand what is bitcoin and think that it's something shady.

Of course, I do. Why shouldn't I? There's nothing to be ashamed of.  Then, all my friends know I'm somewhat special with a different lifestyle and political beliefs, so BTC fits me quite well.

It's not considered shady, it's just got stereotypes associating it with nerds, Libertarians, or both.

Only to my friend and my family.  They asked me how I have money because I have no job and then I told them about signature campaign and bitcoin.  They were all amazed and wonder how could it happen.  When I showed it to them they were like okay it is only for people with brains. Grin  They love the idea but would not want to try it as they sees it as complicated.
