No dream is too big and no dreamer is too small
No, it will not happen, sports betting will remain as the most popular and with more online platforms that would cater bets, it will only grow in the long run.
Sports is a physical game, most of us are playing it, while on Esports, these are only new games that most players are the young generation.

This is just my opinion only, maybe I'm a bit bias since I'm not really gambling in esports but I'm consistently gambling in sports betting.

Do you think in the future people will bet more on eSport than actual Sport events? Let's discuss.

Honestly, this is the current trend now, and more people take notice of the comfort of home viewing.  With the current pandemic issue and the worry of people going out, this may lead to eSport becoming more and more popular.  Aside from that, the restriction of the government of mass gathering will also push this esport to the gambling industry since the industry needs profit and without an audience the normal sport betting is at disadvantage so most institution will then resort to esport to continue their operation and profit.

As a player of different esports game, I believed that esports can surpass the usual sports events, Charts doesn't lie and the esports has the high chance to sustain its growth in upcoming years given that our technology is getting better and better and the young generations are being hooked up with the competitive games. Also, new competitive games are being created that can make people into a craze, Unlike the physical sports that the games are repeatedly played.

It could be possible, but I think that eSport gambling and Sports betting will have their own fans, and I think we don't have to compare which will be more popular Grin

When people stay at home and can not go out, they will search another thing that they usually do, and if they found that thing is on the internet, maybe they will learn that so they can continue to play. Maybe they will move from Sports betting to the eSport gambling, or maybe they will be back to the Sports betting after they can go out, we don't know.

Basing of stats and into that image above given by previous poster then it do shows the possibility and since we are heading into the future where technologies becomes even more
better and been applied in gaming industry then theres no doubt that recognition and popularity would rise up.

I remember wayback when im still on highschool where these games are popular but not really that much on a big scope specially dota2 but years passed where they do held up
tourneys and become big over time even up to now.

eSports is really gaining massive popularity even before the pandemic and already a multi-billion dollar industry. so i wont be surprised if one day it will surpass the revenue of the usual sports betting.
and you will noticed that this industry is very popular among millennials or younger generation, so they are getting a large percentage of population to join this industry. consider the generation today who are equipped with gadgets. no doubt this sector will really boost its presence in the next coming years

I don't think so, especially when you try to compete with football. I feel like sports have fans in every social group, age and sex. Esports are mainly watched by young males.

Like what is the average CS player? A boy age 19?
There are surveys comparing players in sports and esports and the results show that pro players are also much younger with footballers at 26 and LoL players at 21.

I think that this simple thing that sports are watched by both young and old people and esports mostly by people around 20 and younger will make normal sports perform better.

Even before the Covid-19 virus, eSport events have been drawing higher viewership than normal Sport events online.

With 137 million hours of viewership, the Riot Games competition outperformed the Dota 2 International Championship and the IEM Katowice Major, which registered 88 million and 53 million respectively. A critical look at the current eSport gambling clearly show that it becoming one of the popular gambling than the sports betting. Some data from Dota 2 which is the highest  awarding prize game on esport, it has $224,942,531.46 so far, this bring into conclusion that eSport is taking a new dimension in the world of sport betting. Also, counter-strike: global offensive is the second highest awarding prize game, it has $98,196,757.51 so far. So, there's a clear indication of eSport taking the lead. Here is a full list .

During the lockdown when there was no sporting events i started monitoring all the eSports events and i have seen some dubious game plays in the past three months and i am sure the players are manipulating the betting line and it will attract hardcore gamblers.

The match today for example which was dubious was ENCE v Heroic. Heroic won the first set and in the second set they were leading and then suddenly ENCE came from behind and the odds for winning the second set for them was over 10 and they magically won and in the third set they won the first two points and the total odds for Heroic went over 2 and then from that situation Heroic won easily just giving away 3 more points after that.
These is just a single match which i saw today and i had seen many matches like these in the past where the team winning from impossible situations.
