So it is the Holiday season and it was Xmas. How many people dived into their Bitcoin hoard to buy Xmas gifts and also paid for a nice holiday with their family?

We saw a huge increase in the price, early in the season and this might have triggered a situation where people rewarded themselves with some "Gifts" for the holiday season.

The direct impact of that would have been a higher influx of coins onto the exchanges and if that was not met with a higher demand for coins, then it would explain the drop in the price.

Did you splash out with some expensive gifts and extravagant holidays with your bitcoins, during the holiday season?
It's hard to accept or deny it. As we see price was getting high these weeks, a lot of new holders in hope of getting profit, we all know that we need money for christmas and a lot of too.. So maybe this can be a reason but there is also another task: People want to get so much from bitcoin, they wouldn't care about putting bitcoin money for christmas. Can't remember last year's situation, really worths to think about it and consider in future tradings.

That is quite reasonable I guess. I am assuming that users waited for bitcoin to reach the highest price before Christmas then started to withdraw for the holidays. Seems that they have enjoyed the free coins for Christmas.
Also, I am thinking that bitcoin started to decrease because some thought that bitcoin will be dead soon so others panic and sold their coins too. That caused prices go down drastically.

I disagree with your statement and a lot of people here who thinks that the drop was caused because people withdrew to spend it for the holidays. This is not something that would have brought the price down as that is worth hundreds of millions of dollars in terms of the market cap of bitcoins.

The reason is plain and simple, the prices went down due to the correction of the price. Bitcoins rose up quite fast and as a result it could not have supported itself up there when people started selling their bitcoins. There were not enough buyers to sustain the price when there were so much people that were already selling. The holidays probably affected because a lot of people were not trading and hence there were less buyers at the time.

I think Xmas and the Holiday season did contribute to the drop but once the holidays are over money will soon be reinvested back into various cryptocurrencies and this should lead to price recoveries for most if not all cryptos that dipped in this holiday season.

I certainly thought this was the reasoning for some of the drop we experienced going from 19k to 13k in a weeks time. Probably wasn't the only reason of course but seemed like a legitimate reason nonetheless. And since then BTC is rebounding quite well I expect it to re-test ATH prior to year being up or in January of next year.

To me that seems unlikely, the amount of people and the amount of money needed to withdraw from the markets in order to push the price down as much as we saw will be too much, unless people were buying mansions and lambos I do not think that was the case, what we saw was just price movements that come from speculation and whales manipulating the price.

In my opinion, maybe yes it is. That’s why bitcoin drop the price because some people used the bitcoin to convert their money to used this holiday season for their loveones.

For some reason I think yes, but I see the price dump as a correction. After bitcoin hitting its highest peak everyone expect that it will correct and it happens. Hoping for a brighter future with bitcoin, 2018 will be great for cryptocurrency.

I'm not sure, but I believe that Christmas and holiday festivities greatly influence the decline in Bitcoin prices. This is influenced by the increasing financial need of people to celebrate Christmas and holidays, so that Bitcoin users sell their Bitcoin, and because of the large amount of Bitcoin stock on the market that causes the price of Bitcoin to drop.

This might be one of the reason but that's not for sure. But i read an article on businessinsider.com earlier last week that bitcoin's price started to plunge after one of the founders of bitcoin.com announced that he would sell his stake in bitcoin. No one can tell though that it's the real reason why bitcoin's price drops to over 40% during Christmas season.

A small impact is based on the holiday season, but what it has reached seems to be much low in value compared to the peak price that's been predicted to be attained by the year end. In particular just few days left and people are much focused to experience at least the previously achieved $19000 mark.

it could happen, many people who withdraw their funds at the time before Christmas and later this year.
people who invest in bitcoin have gained considerable profits this year, bitcoin has achieved tremendous value this year, so they certainly want to feel the benefits of their investment and spend some of their bitcoin to make their family happy at Christmas time and end of year.

It isn’t just bitcoin that has lost significant value. Ethereum (down 20 percent), Bitcoin Cash (down 30 percent), Litecoin (down 21 percent) and nearly every high-profile altcoin lost value over the Holiday season, Ripple was up seven percent, and just one of two coins to remain green over the past day.
What’s causing the depreciation is anyone’s guess in the same way that nobody knows exactly why bitcoin’s price has slot up from a touch under $1,000 at the start of the year — although many do attribute that to financial institutions embracing the cryptocurrency.

This is what I also believe in too. Due to the holiday season, a lot of us did sell their bitcoin for personal needs and this resulted in an increase in supply in the market. I am also one of the many who did just that. But right now, we can see that it is recovering from the dip that occurred and getting its feet back up again. Let's just what it would turn out after New year.

I can't believe that this is true, it would have to be a lot of people doing the same to cause such a crash. I guess it could have triggered the crash and then weak hands who feared a crash was coming contributed more so to the downfall. As much as you can argue people are selling bitcoin to buy gifts you could argue people are buying bitcoin with gifted money or to gift to others.

Most probably yes. When you check the prices out, you'll see that prople are selling some to get some christmas gifts and meet their christmas spendings. That's the reason for me.

I believe partly yes this holiday seasons has caused the drop in the price some of them convert btc into fiat. To buy presents on this holiday, but some are in saving btc for the next year. As most predictions price will soaring high next year.
