But why would people go to the extent of vandalism?? Sorry but This is showcasing ones primitive behavior! There are better ways to express your displeasure against this other than trying to break property that has not wronged anybody from where it's mounted. If you aren't a cryptocurrency believer keep using fiat and any crypto products won't hurt you this way. If you want to protest try doing so using banners or something and your voice will be heard!

Astounded by the amazing success of Bitcoin implementation in El Salvador, anti-social elements sponsored by the USD lobby have started vandalizing and destroying the Bitcoin ATMs installed by the government. The Bitcoin implementation has proceeded relatively smoothly and this has angered those who were expecting it to fail. I don't expect them to stop with this. The next step may be rioters beating up anyone who is using Bitcoin and vandalizing shops that accept BTC as a payment mode.
Is their government forcing all of them to make use of Bitcoin? If that’s not the case, then I don’t see the need for them to be doing all these things that they are doing now. Breaking Bitcoin ATMs is not going to stop the growth of it in the country or even stop the government if they want it to remain a legal tender in that country.

I am sure I hardly see anyone that is interested in making use of Bitcoin ATMs, most people prefer to even use it online ‘cause ATMs attract a lot of fees. With that said, what these people have done is very bad. I don’t see the need for all this violence because it doesn’t make any sense at all breaking all these things just because of an ordinary cryptocurrency that was made legal in the country.

Daym this is so messed up. Either they really hate bitcoin or somebody is funding these protests. But why would anybody hate bitcoin? It doesn't make sense to me. Somebody must be hiring these people. Just throw them all to jail for vandalizing public property because that's what they were doing.

He should be arrested for damaging the government property. No one is allowed to damage the public property in any country.

Anyways by destroying the bitcoin ATM makes no sense because there is no damage done to bitcoin and people can still use bitcoin easily anywhere. However incidents like these will create panic among people as these ill minded people may attack stops who accepts bitcoin.

actions financed by the international community. The sad thing is that they are funded by the evil opposition. For those who want to destroy atm in el salvador, continue to demonstrate, actually the dollar does not feel harmed by bitcoin in el salvador, but in my opinion this is all financed by bad people, there must be a certain purpose behind all of that, hopefully it will be revealed soon..

The opposition parties have their own reasons to protest against president Bukele, but the entry of Bitcoin has added another dimension to it. I won't be too surprised if it is proven later that external actors are involved. And why not? The Americans don't like anything that could weaken their currency. El Salvador is too small to have any real impact on the United States Dollar, but for the Americans it sets a bad precedent. Why should anyone use an inflation prone currency (whose M1 supply has more than doubled in the last two years), when they have a better option?

If you don't like bitcoin, you can simply not use it and just continue using your preferred. Why need to cause damage? It's not like fiat users are going to be affected. Something's just so suspicious about this.
This aren't only dollar supporters of fiat users. I'm thinking that this plan has been done by those authorities who are opposed with the government. In short, the opposition team might be the one who is behind this. I'm not saying that they are but for me, I'm thinking that its them though I don't have any concrete evidence at all.

I agree with this. Why vandalize?? Why destroy?? I don't get it. They will all benefit from it but they did this. They can just simply ignore Bitcoin and just use fiat money but they are going beyond what they can do.

dollar supporters destroy bitcoin atm in el salvador,, I think this is not the problem between bitcoin and fiat currency, because we know bitcoin and fiat always coexist, they support each other, I think this is just someone on behalf of dollar supporters, they must have a certain purpose, hopefully the government can solve this problem, so that there are no misunderstandings..

Those are stupid people. They have two payment options, either using dollars or Bitcoin. The act of destroying a Bitcoin ATM is vandalism and they will be held accountable for that. I believe these people have an organization behind them to induce them to do it.

Well, I wouldn't say people are smarter than anyone else just because they go for Bitcoin, or anyone who just does that but I still feel we'd be more stupid for taking all of this in without any context, without really knowing the situation on the ground, without listening to what they have to say.

Kind of stupid also to just rave about Bitcoin there without understanding how it helps.

Stupid+stupid = stupid still Wink

why are there people who are not satisfied with bitcoin if they can still use another currency if they don't like bitcoin? or is it that the government forced everyone to use bitcoin? what am i missing?

I think this question has been already answered. But still I would repeat:

1. There is no compulsion for the customers. They have 100% freedom to pay in whatever mode they want - either USD or BTC.
2. Since Bitcoin is a legal tender, all the shopkeepers are required to make the Bitcoin payment option mandatory. But that said, they can opt to receive the amount in USD. That is, even if the customer pays in BTC, the shopkeeper will receive the amount in USD as per live exchange rates with 0% loss and 0% commission.

Some of the shopkeepers don't want to provide the BTC payment option, and that is causing issues. There are many in El Salvador, who deals only with physical cash. They don't accept online modes, in order to avoid paying taxes. These are the guys who are protesting against the move.

I don't know what the political situation in this country is so I can't take sides, but destroying someone else's or government property is crime and what that person did by destroying this Bitcoin ATM is crime. nothing justifies violence. but my question is:

why are there people who are not satisfied with bitcoin if they can still use another currency if they don't like bitcoin? or is it that the government forced everyone to use bitcoin? what am i missing?

There has to be someone funding these anti-bitcoin protests. Like, how thick can people be? They don't want to use bitcoin, that's fine and all, but why destroy things that are created to help people out? The people of El Salvador aren't forced to use bitcoin, only that bitcoin is legally recognized and can be used on the country without any problem. If they want to contest the ruling, do it on the court of law, or perhaps try and ask some lawmakers to voice their opinions out.

This is not the right way to make noise if the anti-bitcoin people want to be heard. They're just making a negative case for themselves that won't help further their agenda.

Every decision will definitely cause pros and cons, as well as the decision of the government of El Salvador to legalize Bitcoin as a legal tender and money in their country.
In this case, there must be certain parties who do not like or feel disadvantaged, and this will trigger various conflicts.
But what makes me disappointed is the destruction of the Bitcoin ATM.
Did they think by destroying it this would be over? No! This will only make their name worse in the eyes of the public. Protest with something supportive and also good, if you don't like it, just leave it, don't use it, but don't try to damage it.

In such situation, it is really hard to expect people like this to adopt Bitcoin in the future. They will always continue to oppose it I think. But I would like to know the reason why they are showing their discontent by destroying the Bitcoin ATMs in the country. This is not the wise way to show their intention. If you don't want to use Bitcoin and prefer dollar over it, then keep doing what you always do.

These people are rude and crazy.  While Flexa, the largest bank in the country of El Salvado, previously accepted online bitcoin payment gateways, transitions are underway.  I don't understand what is their motivation towards this action?  Will it involve NGOs or political riots?

Anyway, I support and trust that Nayib Bukele will quickly come up with arguments /strong measures to deter these crazy actions affecting the very property of the country.

if these people don't like to use bitcoin, they don't need to destroy the government's property. let other people use it because anyway, they are not obliged to use it. but such action is expected as there are really extremist individuals who resort to violence. but if the government will strongly support this move, in time, these people will just accept the existence of crypto in their system. and i believe, if this will continue to vandalising those merchants/shops which accept bitcoin, the government should take necessary penalties to these people. vandalism of public or private properties is considered a crime everywhere.

At first El Salvador seemed to be accepting bitcoins well without any conflicts. but when btcoin is actually legalized and adopted there are many pros and cons.
Of course there have been some provocations made against the use of bitcoin.
People who don't agree with the adoption of bitcoin and make it a legal currency are people who are against bitcoin. But some of them also support bitcoin. maybe this is the peak, the government of El Salvador will certainly rethink whether the steps for bitcoin adoption will continue to be carried out or will be carried out some developments to be accepted.

<…> the government should provide safety guarantees for merchants who accept bitcoin and other crypto asset transactions.
Chivo wallet is, by default, set to automatically convert from BTC to USD with no loss whatsoever (providing Chivo works properly) (*). There is therefore no risk incurred other than Chivo being the custodial of their USD (or BTC if they want to, or even part of the balance in each).
