Ukraine and Russia’s Non-Russians Said Viewing Each Other as Allies, Disturbing Moscow

Paul Goble

Staunton, December 3 – Increasingly frequent expressions of support for Ukraine by non-Russian peoples within the borders of the Russian Federation and similar expressions of support for these nations by Kyiv is disturbing many Russians who see this as an alliance of “Russophobes of all kinds.”

In an article on Rusfed24.ru, Ufa journalist Svetlana Nurgaleyeva said that nationalist groups among the non-Russian groups, including Buryats, Chuvashes, Tatars, and Bashkirs, have come together “on the basis of Russophobia and hatred to Russia as a state” (rusfed24.ru/2014/12/02/ukronatsistyi-i-vlasti-ufyi-podderzhivayut-bashnatsionalistov/).

When the Maidan began, Tatars in Kazan held a demonstration in support of the Ukrainian movement. Then in February, Chuvash nationalists declared that the Ukrainians were not fighting non-Russians like themselves but rather “imperialist Moscow,” the common enemy of both.
And at the same time, Buryat nationalists held a roundtable at which participants declared that “there are no Nazis or ‘Banderites’ in the Maidan; instead, there are people ready to struggle to the end for their rights,” something that Buryats said should inspire rather than repel non-Russians in Russia.

Non-Russian nationalists, Nurgaleyeva continued, have repeated these ideas since that time. But now the situation has become more serious because Ukrainian media have responded by giving extensive coverage to and thus encouragement for such declarations and the actions that would follow from them.
According to the Ufa journalist, Bashkir nationalists “should look more closely at what is happening in Novorossiya” and see that “every day Russians in Novorossiya are being killed because they want to speak their native language.” And they would conclude that if they were prevented from speaking theirs, they would do what the Russians in Novorossiya are doing.

But she says – and this is Nurgaleyeva’s most important admission – the Bashkir nationalists are not interested in language in the first instance: “Many do not want to speak their native Bashkir.” What they want is to “divide up Russia.”

She is pointing to something that is usually overlooked: Many nationalists among non-Russian groups just like many Ukrainians speak Russian, but the fact that they do does not make them any less committed to their respective nations and may even make them more so because by speaking Russian, they enter into a world where they encounter discrimination based solely on ethnicity.  And that often triggers the nationalist responses Nurgaleyeva bemoans.

But she and obviously other Russians in Russian are concerned about something else: government officials in the non-Russian republics “openly support” radical nationalist groups “and at the same time put pressure on the Russian national movement,” a pattern that she says will lead “sooner or later” to an explosion of anger among Russians.

That threat is real, but so too is another threat that is implicit in Nurgaleyeva’s article: Her suggestion about the emerging “alliance” of anti-Moscow non-Russian nationalists within the Russian Federation and Ukrainian nationalists abroad represents a clear appeal to Moscow to repress the former now before they are in a position to act as the latter already do.

Kiev's Nuclear pranks - now they are trying to poison all of Donbass by bombing an old radioactive waste pit.

Yay for genocide in 2014! Supported by your friendly western countries.

Hmm, they have until the fifth of December. It appears that heads of Donetsk and Lugansk republics reached an agreement with Kiev about a sieze-fire (again). I am not holding my breath, though, Kiev is known to lie (sorry for the understatement).

Thanks but tvrain is a bullshit media company, which doesn't deserve even one click. They were many times catched on spreading lies and uncovered propaganda. I would prefer to trust Poroshenko's 5th channel rather than tvrain. Roll Eyes

Balthazar, that is an interview with Lukashenko and not question about TV!!
Why don't you comment what Lukashenko is saying, but give an Ad-hominem "argument"?  Roll Eyes

Kiev continues shelling of Donetsk. A quarter of the schools in the city are destroyed, teachers work without salary in war-time mode, the attending children mostly stopped paying attention to shells exploding around town.

Kiev now steps up the atrocities, blocking all food supplies from reaching Donetsk, worsening the humanitarian situation even further.

I wonder how long this can continue, how long will EU continue to look the other way, patting Nazis on the head?

And shoot a plane down

Actually that's still debated. When I last time read about MH17 the ukrainian team had a good chance to win the credit for scoring that hit.

i think he was being sarcastic, just as pagan. ^^
Nope, he just thinks that we are idiots and decided to continue this show. Unfortunately, he made a big mistake with that.

The eighth humanitarian convoy from Russia returned back. There were 90 trucks with food, medicine, power installation parts, clothes, warm things. 1200 tonnes in all. 50 trucks went to Donetsk, 40 to Lugansk. Kiev blockaded Donetsk, stopping any medical supply, so the situation is critical there.

The only thing Kiev (or should I say Galician thugs that have occupied offices in Malorossia) send to Donetsk are artillery shells. Two his a children hospital today (no one was killed as children ad personnel were waiting the shelling over in the basement). Four hit a cultural center. A coal mine was hit, one miner killed.

The rabid madness in Kiev spins out of control now. They are pushing to start an anti-Russian TV channel in... Russian.

And where European aid

In an interview with the ARD German broadcasting service, President Poroshenko reported that the inhabitants of the occupied territories in the Donbas are beginning to realize they are being ruled by thugs "who seize, rob and kill." After destroying the banking system, the militants are now organizing "pension tours" for retirees to liberated areas in order to steal their benefits. Ukraine is supplying more than $700 million in gas and electricity to the occupied territories without payment but will not pay benefits until the area is under the government's control. Additionally, the terrorists are continuing to hold more than 600 soldiers and civilians captive in their basements.

Those crazy fucking pedo gayropean fascist Obamaloving Lithuanians want to build an oppressive oligarchist "children's playground" in front of the Russian Embassy in Vilnius, the rebel capital city populated by millions of long-suffering Russianspeakers who have to endure language-based humiliation daily, under the jackboot of their illuminati overlords.
Lithuania, for fuck's sake, if eighties movies taught you anything, it's that you DO NOT want to piss off the guy who has the full support of Steven Seagal, Jean Claude van Damme and Gerard fucking Depardieu.
I'm talking about Vladimir "let's roll" Putin, dumbass.
