Thank you for the answers!

So, it seems that if you get it by or after October then you will be never make ROI, no? Based on current diff rises.

So from what I understand, if I order the thumb then it costs $104 including shipping? The assembly and whatnot is done in the USA, or in Europe/Asia?

Do they have the chips already for the currently in stock thumbs, or are they waiting for a shipment from bitfury?

Do we have any idea for time frame if we order right now? (1 Week, 2 Weeks (tm), a month?).

The Jhon K escrow does not cover issues such as late shipment, correct?

* Updates Aug 17th

  • Chips ordered! Big thanks to Dave at Megabigpower for allowing us to secure a reel at the old price, because the prices are going up!
  • Board design finished. Photo up

These fine folks are in Australia I believe.

Above says they were ordered on 8-17.  Bitfury expects to ship by the end of this month... and people have been receiving bitfury on time... Barntech is then expecting a quick turn around on assembly time to have the products shipping October-November.

So I just finished reading everything properly...

Have I correctly interpreted that a "DrillBit Thumb" is going to power 2 bitfury chips and cost approximately $100 USD?
And begin assembly in October

Hey stack.

We are leaning more towards the 1 chip thumb at this point. Pricing is not yet locked down, but it will definitely be sub $100. And yes, shipping Oct/Nov

Cheers

Barntech

Here is the return policy of the company ordering chips for this group buy.

Hope that helps your questions.

just did paypal for 8 usb thumbs Barntech Smiley  can you confirm you have received

Thanks

Can you say why you won't wait for the 8 chip boards to come back in stock? Is it like the person who replied to me said, that you want anything from them asap?
The 8 chip board may never come back if Bitfury raise the chip price so the board can't make ROI anymore.

Sweet jesus this looks awesome! As someone who is a late comer, do you recommend I just buy the USB miner instead of waiting for the 8 chip boards to come back in stock?
Still no news about a second batch or not, as the chip prices are rising.
So if you seriously wanna get something from Drillbit, I would say get an USB first.

A miner who sells units here in Germany, recommended the following two (but for other rigs, they are 400w). Any comments on them as they are said to be very efficient. edit Or would they be less efficient than a 200 watt PS? I know you should only run them at half or so for max efficiency?

They both look fine to me, but I'm not an expert on PSU's, I've just been doing a ****ton of research. Grin

FSP Aurum and Raider are good units going off reviews, and Superflower can put out some pretty sweet units. Speaking of which... here's another candidate: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Kingwin/STR-500/5.html

OEM is Superflower: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supply-oem-manufacturer,2913-7.html

And here's another review: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1220-page6.html

Pretty much a perfect PSU in it's wattage range. Smiley

Anyone - Would be great to have a recommendation for a power supply to power the Drill Bit systems, both for one unit and 4 unit with backplane.
I'm a bit new here and would appreciate the help. Also, for those of us running things at home, a quieter PS would be preferable!

Thx,
IAS

I'll just use the Corsair AX860i from my GPU mining rig. Good efficiency at the sub-100W load of 4x Drillbit boards, as seen here:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Corsair/AX860i/6.html (scroll down to "Efficiency at Low Loads")

The next best contenders I've found so far, for anyone looking to buy new:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Corsair/AX760/6.html
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Seasonic/SS-460FL_V2/6.html

AFAIK, even pico-PSU's struggle to be ~85% efficient here. And even if you found the perfect sub-200W power supply with over 90% efficiency, you'd only save a couple of watts from the wall. Better to get the ATX units above and be able to re-use them in a future PC. At worst, you'd get a very good price selling them even a year from now, as they're all 80PLUS Platinum and high-quality Seasonic made units. Smiley

I will second any recommendation for Seasonic power supplies. I've used Seasonic power supplies for years without a single failure, they really seem to be the best manufacturer.

EDIT: Whoops, the AX860i is actually made by Flextronics, which is just as good. The regular AX860 (80+ Platinum) is made by Seasonic.
