Done.

User Ratings (and more importantly comments!) now easy.

http://dvccountdown.blisteringdevelopers.com/devtome

I'm storing the data on a local db, so I'll set it to rescrape once a day in case people change stuff.

Seriously, that new version really rocks!!

Awesome!  May I suggest 6 shares for your rating addition?

Heya, that's fine with me, I've updated the code to my github repo with the source - https://github.com/hunterbunter/dvccountdown

Bittzy - I'm glad you liked it Smiley - any other suggestions/additions you'd like to see for it?

has the new devcoin client added any of the hard or soft forking options that the new bitcoin activates? what has it done with regards to:

* version 2 blocks. i believe devcoin currently uses version 1 coinbases. when version 2 coinbases were first used in bitcoin the client had code that would reject version 1 blocks when a majority of version 2 blocks existed in the last X blocks. this was later removed once the supermajority was met and i believe the current bitcoin code now rejects version 1 blocks.

* is p2sh activated? p2sh transactions are unsafe if the majority of miners don't run p2sh enabled clients.

* there was a fork during the 0.8 version of the client due to the change to leveldb and differing locking behavior to bdb in the older client. this caused a chainfork when the old client rejected blocks that the new client created due to size constraints. a patch was created for old clients to enable them to have better locking constraints to accept the unusual blocks from the new client. this issue will exist in devcoin if miners run old and new clients. it will be possible for new client operators to force a chain split.

i'm sure there are other differences. were fee policies changed?

The reason for the bounty is to see if Sidhujag's Daemon makes devcoin blocks that the old clients accept. We just need a single block for that. If it does, then we can make Sidhujag's the official client and archive the old one.
you need more than a single block. the new client needs to run side by side with the old client for a period of time and a number of blocks to ensure the chains don't diverge. there is a significant amount of testing needed by a pool operator here so they deserve a large bounty. not to mention the risk if the devcoin damon causes a bitcoin block to be lost. that's $25,000 that the pool operator would owe its miners.

has the new client been tested using 'bitcoin in a box' style testing? that is a closed network for testing merge mining and normal mining.

Blisterpool has made its second payment. No blocks or shares were found in the previous 24hrs, so only the 10k bonus dvc payment went out by hash split. If anyone has any miners they want to add, you can hop on the pool via http://blisterpool.com - same address with port 9332 for the miners, but register your dvc address for devcoin bonus payments.

The payments were:
5243.9 dvc to 1NV7mtzqW8g6r7kBm6r5FJKWpFN4z85Gu7
1252.0 dvc to me (didn't create a transaction)
3434.96 dvc to 1MxG6jwyxG1pTrWu5Hr12zyAjSYD1Y28XP
85.57 to 13TRk2LRQuPH926Dq4u1uL63gUvfX5wRN3 - although this won't be paid out until it reaches the 100 min dvc threshold, so this remains in balance.

I'll just round off the figures for future payments (sorry about the change! will keep it in the balance in the future, and make it whole dvc only)

Its cool and we can use gann numbers to come up with support and resistances.. once people find useful information it will become a hub to find outthe market status of a crypto. Also related news for each crypto with links.

Ie for maxcoin give the link to the video where max kieser first talks about the coin after release as people are waiting for this still eagerly..
A decent regular market outlook would be good. I think most technical analysis is voodoo, but it's popular so it needs watching particularly very short term where most voodoo people seem to play.

Anything dealing with phsycology can be considered voodoo but it works generally.. most traders just fail to use proper money management and risk analysis prior to following thru with their plan which is why they complain it doesnt work.. any edge even 1% is advantage over a large number of trades usually because equity curve becomes exponential as it grows.

i'm looking at http://dvcusdchart.blisteringdevelopers.com/ and wonder if it's possible to get my browser to auto update this periodically, like once per minute.... or is that something that would be an option on the page....

Hmm usually that's done on the web page via ajax or something. I'll look into it and make it better, I think the page needs a bit of an overhaul...google charts is easy but not very attractive imo. The page itself is also a bit spartan. Anyone know of any good looking javacript (or .png) chart systems?

Alyssa85, Eeh and Flam are handling Earnings. Alyssa85 is an Earning Factotum because she is already an Article Admin, Eeh and Flam are Earnings Admins. They check new writers when they have more than a thousand words and see that their devcoin address is from their computer. When they give the ok I add the devcoin address to the devtome earnings list and the writers are then counted by the devtome.py script. Alyssa85 handles A-F, Eeh handles G-O, and Flam handles P-Z.

ahh, i see i can message alyssa85 and it looks like she will be able to help me

edit to add: also i see i have a message from unthinkingbit that says payment for block 32 should be near end of february? i think I answered my own questions, lol.

I used to write a daily fundamental report on 5 currencies USD,EUR,JPY,GBP and AUD. I plan to restart this and add a bitcoin section plus another section for all crtyptos. So basically it will be a daily report of 7 sections of around 200 words each, it will go over the news of the previous day and offer a preview of the news for the next day. In addition to 5 daily reports I plan to also do a weekly summary and weekly preview that will cover the news for the previous / upcoming week.

I assume this would be ok since devtome already allows poetry and fiction but I thought I would make sure because it's not really ''wiki'' type content.

Admins / reviewers, let me know what you think.

bump.
As far as I'm concerned so long as it's original and not just rewriting news or reuters wires it's fine (i.e. we don't need everyone summarising the days news for wordcount). There's also a difference as you know between daily fx technicals/eco news and say weekly summaries in terms of how you approach it and keeping readers with you - esp given initial devtome context.

But could devtome become a goto place for daily market summaries and events. If it's decent then why not, particularly for cryptos where if you pitch it right could build a lot of interest.

common: Looks good although it's not clear what the site is actually offering by registering as charts are already visible.

Sorry for triple posting, I have set up a Devcoin chat room here: http://devcoinproject.com/index.php/devcoin-chatroom

It is IRC, so the channel can be accessed with any client. (The web page just makes it simpler.)

The idea being somewhere to communicate/discuss devcoin related projects. Enjoy Smiley

I am also happy to put up chat rooms for those of you will projects under way, as a communication tool if it is any use. PM me if this is any use to you.

There is a #devcoin channel on Freenode IRC too, has been for long long long time though I guess the first few years hardly anyone was using it.

-MarkM-

EDIT: Re devcoin ports, they default to a standard, no need to specify them in a config unless using other than those defaults.

Ok, I changed the config to default and restarted the server, now all should go fine.

Hello!
I mounted a DVC node in a VPS with the address:

http://95.85.36.199

I also installed Wordpress to have a nice cms and I put the live stats of the node in the widget area (looks cool!)

I saw in Devtome at the bounty page (http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin_bounty_now) they want more nodes and I'm willing to help.

http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=how_to_create_a_devcoin_node_in_a_vps_for_noobs

My question is if I did the setup correctly to be considered? or I need to do something more?

Contact Markm, he'll tell you what is needed and add you to his node list. Until I hear otherwise, I'll assume that your node is working correctly and give you 2/5 of a share as long as it's working. Web wallets can not account for generation devcoins, is your address 1DJb19DHi23yaWXfbGP8fKCxMSizyAiN7X from your computer?

In a private message you wrote "The URL is: http://95.85.36.199:6333"

That is not the normal/correct port for devcoin, so is not going to work as a seed node I am pretty sure.

I am rpetty sure the seed nodes work - or at least used to work - by assuming the hostname or IP address hard-coded into the code will have a daemon running at the normal standard port. So the seeds list lists only the IP addresses or hostnames I think.

-MarkM-

EDIT: It occurs to me too that this might cause people who try to use non-standard ports to have trouble finding connections, since it seems quite likely that whatever port they configure their node to use will end up being the port that all the seed hosts will be assumed to be using.

Of course the new clients are based on new bitcoin code so maybe they long ago fixed this potential problem, maybe it'd only apply to the ancient code I am used to.

I'll check it, please tell me what port I should be using for devcoin to modify the .config
