Can’t anyone help me understand the Devcoin wallet? How does one get it back if their computer fails them? When I created a wallet here http://devcoin.org/devcoin-wallet.html it never gave me the ability to create a passphrase or password or even if this is the public or private wallet. I have been searching for devcoin useability but it seems like it’s pretty technical and not as easy as other coins. Been on devtome.com as well and kind of hard to find anything there as well. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi orimar.

You can find a great HOWTO about the DevCoin wallet from a post of cpol a while ago. Here is the link:

https://steemit.com/busy/@cpol/how-to-compile-your-very-own-devcoin-wallet-in-ubuntu-18-04

Just like a BTC wallet you would want to backup wallet.dat which is normally in a hidden folder in the home directory. On Linux it would be .devcoin

Hope that helps.

- Nova

Thanks! this seems to be for Linux OS? I have a mac OS and I can't seem to find anything online as to help me with it. I have the wallet installed and have an address. so i moved my dev coin to this address and my wallet doesnt show the transaction but a search on the blockexplorer shows the coins there. I think something is wrong with the wallet interface as it looks a bit "out dated".

Yes the HOWTO of cpol takes place on the Ubuntu release of Linux. Best to double check that your new installation uses the same receiving keys (wallet.dat) as you used when sending the coins.

Where is the source code?

Someone on HORIZON's own thread gave a link to a git repository they had made before the original developers vanished, so you could go with that if you like; or I have a copy of the last actual release archive put out by the original developers inside my http://LFM.knotwork.com/ website's downloads area.

Hmm maybe I should update the Galactic Milieu's pages on Sourceforge, it has been so long since that was updated that HORIZON is not even mentioned there, hmmm.

HORIZON began as a clone of NXT, as I write I do not even know yet whether NXT allows decimals in its own native currency, but given the price per unit of NXT's native currency on exchanges I am thinking it is quite likely that they do. If they do, maybe how they went about it could help figure out how we could modify HORIZON to allow HZ some decimals.

Maybe this is something that could be worth offering a bounty for if no one spontaneously tackles the problem out of the goodness of their heart, the size of their bag of HZ, their desire to see DeVCoin work nicely on the HORIZON platform, or some other motive for putting free as in beer into free open source... Smiley

It sounds like a worthwhile bounty to me. It would be nice to see any open source bounty at this time, in my opinion.

Merry Yule!

It is probably worth noting that the HZ unit does have eight decimals, I see them in balances. Also when I go to send HZ it does let me input a decimal point, whereas the input routine for prices in buy/sell assets rejects a decimal point or comma, popping up a "fractions are not allowed" warning as soon as I press either . or ,

So dunno why they are not allowed.

Yike, I just discovered another problem with HORIZON: it only allows integer prices of things, so when offering to buy or sell anything against HZ, the price has to be at least one HZ per whatever the other thing is.

Since it seems very likely that the price/value of HZ itself is likely to tend to rise against other things that use its platform, it seems inevitable that there are going to end up being things whose value, and thus if only we could offer prices in fractions or decimals of an HZ their price, should end up being less than one HZ per unit.

To put it another way, the platform is going to be kind of awkward for anything worth less than one HZ per unit.

I mention this here partly because currently DeVCoin is looking to be worth less than one HZ per DeVCoin.

We could work around this by creating a "Thousands of DeVCoins" asset, but there still would be no convenient way to allow users to convert the existing DeVCoins asset into the new Thousands of DeVCoins asset since unlike on Ripple-type platforms (such as STELLAR) you cannot trade arbitrary pairs, everything is traded directly only against HZ.

Thus it seems like it could be worthwhile to at least look into what would be involved in implementing decimals into HORIZON's native currency, HZ.

It looks like so-called "currencies" (as distinct from so-called "assets") on the HORIZON platform are completely broken.

It was bad enough when I discovered that after creating a couple of "currencies" it would not let me create any more, always claiming their name was already in use.

Now I have discovered that none of the automated methods of doing buys or sells or "offers" seem to work at all. Each user only gets to see their own offers, there is no sign of anyone else's and no matching against anyone else's.

So I am now in the process of re-issuing the "currencies" as "assets".

Which is kind of good in a way anyway since having your loot arbtrarily divided into two completely different sections, "currencies" and "assets", was awkward anyway.

The doc pages about assets and currencies at http://MakeMoney.knotwork.com/ are thus even more out of date, I am basically putting more focus on actually getting stuff set up than on documenting it all. But at some point, hopefully soon, I will modify the /horizon/currencies/ section to point out curencies do not work and to use assets instead, and eventually I will also have another go at adding asset pages in /horizon/assets/ for all the assets that currently do not have a page there.

Meanwhile migration of balances from the Open Transactions system continues...

...And the price tables at http://galaxies.mygamesonline.org/digitalisassets.html continue to be updated now and then.

REMINDER: If you are looking for a copy of the HORIZON client/node software, the one I use is available for download inside my http://LFM.knotwork.com/ website.

It is unaltered, so for example I have not gone into it and added dvcstable01.dvcnode.org, dvcstable02.dvcnode.org and dvcstable06.dvcnode.org to its configured list of well known hosts, you should do that yourself if you want it to connect to the same network of nodes "everyone else" is using.

(The original nodes set up by the original developers are long dead, so it likely will not find any nodes unless you tell it some.)

For DevSTEEM users

A new sell round started, check the new exchange rate and conditions:

https://steemit.com/witness-category/@devcoin/devsteem-stage-1-sell-round-3

Go go #DevSTEEM!

How long do you guys plan to undermine the exchange price?

As long as the price is higher then the market rate it's not really a problem.

1.000.000 dev = 100 steem
100 steem = $33.3

There are 50+ million for sale on altilly for 65 liteoshi or less.

1.000.000 dev = 0.65 ltc
0.65 ltc = $20.9
