To me it's more likely hard to believe that bitcoin price will cross or pass over $40k at the end of 2018. According to me probably the price of Bitcoin will cross between 20k and 30k by the of 2018.

There are chances bitcoin price will reach 40k but we cannot predict anything before the beginning of second quarter as that's the most crucial time for crypto currency and it also depends on any new investors or corporate if they support bitcoin and adapt to bitcoin then there can be sudden surge in the value as there was a rumour that some company in Japan is going to pay their employees by bitcoin.

For me I think it can be totally collapse because bitcoin or the other cryptocurrency like monero,ETH is a amazing example of a bubble.
Last month the bitcoin mythology would be a wonderful story if only it will true and predicted but the only thing i can say that other country like Japan is issue its own vertual currency the MUFG coin.Japanese Government and the financial services agency introduced a national licencing program to regulate cryptocurrency exchanges as proper financial institution.

Some guru's think the price will go up. See the following:

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/01/18/fundstrats-tom-lee-is-even-more-bullish-after-crash.html

Quote
The first major Wall Street strategist to cover bitcoin predicts the digital currency will more than double in 2018 to $25,000 in the wake of its crash this year that saw it lose 50 percent of its value from a December record.

Fundstrat's Tom Lee is out with his latest report on bitcoin, which moves up a $25,000 price target by four years, from 2022 to the end of this year. Lee's model for valuing bitcoin now predicts it will reach $125,000 by 2022.

"We expect bitcoin's major low to be $9,000, and we would be aggressive buyers around that level," Lee said in a Thursday report. "We view this $9,000 as the biggest buying opportunity in 2018."
The quick correction was expected and what can we expect after that? That fundstrat surely know what logic lies behind this incident. And betting $25,000 is a safe bet unlike others that are telling it $40,000 - $100,000 at the end of this year. Giving an idea that on 2022 it's going to be a 6 digit value for bitcoin well that's fascinating as many analysts and experts are telling that on 2020+ bitcoin will show some good moves.

For my taste this is to optimistic prediction, maybe we need to lover this a little. However everyone have right to predict price for upcoming period and hopefully this or some other prediction here might be the right ones. Still for bitcoin price to increase by 25k per year is little to big for me maybe 5k instead of this might be reasonable but again we saw that last year price went almost 20k in price over the year so technically anything is possible.
Yeah we have the freedom to predict at any price that we want. We don't know what will happen exactly in the future but these predictions are the closest and most possible price that bitcoin will be landing soon. We have seen that bitcoin reached almost $20,000 and that's why speculations from these experts are also close to the price. I'm good and will celebrate if any of their predictions will be in reality but I'm not going to expect that much.

More and more people are getting interesting in crypto, new ICOs are are coming out, exchanges cannot register new users, finance institutions still have not invested real money and Bitcoin is the king of crypto.

All that altogether makes me think, that is may be worth much more than 40 000$ at the end of the year.
when the price of Bitcoin went up, its demand became noticeably higher. But after Bitcoin almost fell into the Two, I doubt that many people will be interested in Bitcoin. Even those who lost their investments on this are unlikely to take Bitcoin as an investment project.

You can have high hopes or not that doesn't change anything. My predictions about bitcoin price was always lower, and final outcome proved many times how much I underestimated bitcoin price. That is not matter, what does is that we don't know nothing, bitcoin has it's own course and we can just be on that train or not. How much we are wrong can be seen on this forum and in our predictions, we can't accurately predict price in one or two weeks and how to predict the price in one year? My opinion is that bitcoin price can be 50k dollars or more by the end of this year. For end of the 2017 I said 7k but price was higher, this year we will see can price surprise us all once again.

The quick correction was expected and what can we expect after that?

It all depends on whether bitcoin can solve it's scaling problems. If it can, the sky is the limit. In the meanwhile, it functions as an asset class that is not correlated to other assets and thus very attractive to hedge funds whose deepest fear is all their assets falling at the same time.
I forgot about the scaling problems but I have trust and believed on the core devs that they will resolved it and for the meanwhile we can use Segwit for this issue. And that's the reality that bitcoin is used as an asset, a digital asset to be exact that makes everyone to hold.

I'm very confident that the price of bitcoin will keep increasing and 40,00usd is just small maybe higher than todays price.
I like the thing you said for being "very confident" that it will be at $40,000.

Blockchain is much faster than the internet now and we could see a massive adoption.. Millennials will help to change the revolution of tech era.
Sadly it's always experiencing congestion because of millions of users are transacting every second.

A little lower, I read the topic of what people think about bitcoin for $ 20,000, after which time it will reach these heights again. But it became interesting, is there anyone here who believes that bitcoin by the end of 2018 will be $ 40000 or more?

Again, a thoughtless forecast is not backed up. I wonder where people get such thoughts, why they still believe in bitcoin and think that nothing bad will happen. Optimism is certainly good, but not to that extent.

Don't blame those forecast mate because it is not just based on their optimistic minds. That's just a fruit of their observations and analysis. It's right do deny false hope but I am positive that it will happen. You try to compare data of bitcoin for the previous years since it had been founded to the present time.

I think (hope) too that bitcoin price will be much higher than 40k$ at the end of the year. With the jump it did in 2017, a lot of people are now aware of bitcoin and will eventually invest in it.
That's the problem , people tend to expecting the same thing could happened again year by year.
That is okay as long as there a lot of factor support it especially about those people who put a lot of money in bitcoin for long term.
Or maybe better when there a lot of company start accepting bitcoin as their payment processor.

No , I don't think so , maybe if Bitcoin stop going down and will beggin rice up , then maybe it's gonna reach $40k  . But let's not predict something like this , first, let's think at a lower price , like $30k , at the end of this year could reach 30k USD , but its not sure . It's possible for Bitcoin to not grow up again to such a big value , but we don't know that for sure . But also Bitcoin can reach more then 40k USD , and again we don't know that for sure .

So basically 'who knows' - of course there's uncertainty but let's give an opinion of our own. I feel like bitcoin will pass $40k. It was close to $20k coming in to the new year and so would be little more than a 100% increase, given the year bitcoin had last year I don't think such growth is likely to occur again but I think 100-300% growth is perfectly feasible.

Nothing is certain not even bitcoin price. We can speculate price but we never know what will be in next day week or month. This is market and anything can happen in market from crash to rise. Bitcoin had last year marked as golden one. Maybe this will be stability for bitcoin price maybe not, but this price seem little optimistic.
Until today, many people who first heard about the crypto currency were very much interested in good earnings with the help of Bitcoin and its active growth. But the fact is that with Rustam, the prices for Bitcoin have increased the price of transactions, and their duration has greatly increased. Thus, the popularity of the bitbox has slightly decreased and this will greatly affect its future prospects.

There may be a short-term sprint, more than 4000 dollars, but I think the price of bitcoin will stabilize at 30000 dollars this year, and there will be lots of tokens this year.

...perhaps the growth of other coins still will restrain the cue ball and it will not reach these figures.

we will not know what happens with bitcoin this year. I'm sure bitcoin will be above 20000 dollars. keep hold and never cut loss.
