Ethereum is damaged either way fork or no fork. It is very unfortunate, yes. Even if they catch the "thief" how can they charge him as a "thief"? If Vitalik files a case on him what is Vitalik's argument? How did the "thief" "steal" all that ETH?
For the past 30 days I checked the ETH price graph and It's dumped hard from 0.028BTC the highest to 0.0124BTC the lowest which is more than the half. ETH is trying to recover and I think more investors will join ETH.
The price is around 0.018 now. I think it could rise to new all time high if the community and companies support it.

Yes, that is why Vitalik asked Ethereum classic to fork to fix this issue but they are refusing. Sloppy indeed as they didnt even account for the possibility of 2 coins surviving.

They don't appear to understand that we exist in an adversarial environment 24/7 and one must plan for every possible attack as real money is on the line.

Now that attitude will create a movement that matters. I know you will not be the only one. The hash rate is increasing and I speculate that those miners are pointing their power to the original Ethereum classic for the same reasons as yours. But having some extra coins would be nice also.

If the big ETH whales sell the ETC, the ETC price will go to almost zero. So the chain will die eventually.
Hopefully that would not happen because that would affect all the altcoins, we know that ETH is gaining the success currently and new coins is also starting to have that success so if anything happen, it would probably create a panic in the crypto world for altcoins.

Everybody laugh at you you little scammer. You killed your own coin, you betrayed your own people. Now try to save that dead-fork with Coinbase. Somebody should clear this mess. This is the first time unforked chain passed the "so-called consensus" forked one in crypto-currency history.

The more sell pressure there is the cheaper the fuel will become increasing its value proposition for arbitrage. ETC is tied to ETH at the "hip" for legal and market reasons. Both will not die anytime soon. ETC likely will seek parity, and ETH fetch a small premium.
