I don't think it is necessary. Ethereum and Bitcoin have their own advantages. They are very good coins, but we can't predict the future of cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin may be defeated by Ethereum, or it may be one of the future. New coins are defeated, this is something that cannot be known.
With no doubt, ethereum is the next to bitcoin and it will remain next to it because there is no any other coins that are as close even in value to bitcoin as ETH .
I really didnt like what the SEC guy in the US said the other day... it doesn't really make me feel comfortable that Ethereum is more than likely going to be viewed as a security... only time will tell what the ramifications if any will result from it.. but it has me a bit worried .
I believe ethereum will become the next bitcoin maybe this is not the right time but I believe it will happen soon.
I am not positive on the future of Ethereum. A lot out there can be - or are already - better than Ethereum. Case in point: Byteball. Have you heard of Byteball. The Byteball model is simply superior to that of Ethereum. Developers want to easily get their application in front of end users, and they can’t do that with Ethereum. They can on Byteball.
Without a "supernova bright future", I don't think Ethereum will be the next Bitcoin.
We know that eth has a huge potential since it is one in the top 10 altcoin, but knowing that altcoin only boom because of the fame of bitcoin we can say that bitcoin would always have a bigger value that other altcoin unless bitcoin would have no value and be dead. that would be the only time that eth may have potential to be the next bitcoin, but in that situation, eth may also be dead because the first crypto lost its value.
I believe ethereum will become the next bitcoin maybe this is not the right time but I believe it will happen soon. But I suggest to you to still wait because if you sell your ethereum will lose the opportunity to earn more money because you can't see the price become very high in the future. But for sure after few years if bitcoin die ethereum will decrease very low but it will increase again after few months and they started the new king and that is the ethereum.
maybe it could happen someday considering the amount of transaction costs on bitcoin and the slow transaction, it is not impossible that ETH can be more popular than bitcoin.

For me there is no coin right now that has the potential to reach or surpass all the achievements bitcoin has reached. Ethereum is really popular lately and many people are buying and using it but still it is not close to bitcoin. Bitcoin will always be on top and will be king of the cryptocurrency for a long time.

He can't say tht the ethereum replace the bitcoin. He only say tht the ethereum is the next to the bitcoin and it has an different meaning . We can't deny it. Wherever i look about the ranking, i always see that the ethereum is the next always after the bitcoin and because of this i prove that th ethereum is a good coin too. It gain my trust.

I think bitcoin will always be above ethereum at any time, and bitcoin is still the best compared to ethereum, but if ethereum increases its value I will support it and I strongly believe that ethereum will increase.
ETH and BTC are both indispensable in exchange of money. I think BTC will not be replaced with ETH 
Ethereum isn't trying to be the next Bitcoin, it's trying to be something else entirely, a platform in which the entire blockchain future can be built. Bitcoin is a pure cryptocurrency, it doesn't have any smart-contract or dApp functionality, whereas ETH has the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) which is used for running decentralized programs. Sure, it works as a cryptocurrency, but that's only a small part of it.
I used to believe that ethereum would take over bitcoin in the future but seeing the current price of ETH in the market, one would be confused if this can actually happen.
Ethereum and Bitcoin are very different projects and they have different purposes. I do not think that Ethereum will be a competitor for Bitcoin.

As for me , both bitcoim and ethereum has it's own potential and uniqueness and we can't compare the two. Bitcoin has reached a lot of achievements which made on top of any coims and I believe that it could still go more. Ethereum has also it's own capability which make a lot of people trust it more.
ETH can be the next but not ready yet. BTC still more desirable and many are patronizing it.
