These are the results of the games played today:

France 1-0 Belgium
Portugal 0-0 Slovenia
(Portugal win 3-0 on penalties)

France could not find a way to win the game until the 85th minute when it took a deflection off Belgium defender Vertonghen to give France a 1-0 win. Belgium could have changed the outcome had Lukaku and De Bruyne scored when they had excellent chances but this was another tournament that Belgium failed to impress. France also have not been playing well but have a found a way to get to the quarter-finals.

In the other game all eyes were on Ronaldo looking to score in his 6th Euro tournament but the game ended with penalties. Ironically, Ronaldo saw his penalty saved at the end of the first 15 minutes of extra-time and became very emotional. In the end Slovenia saw all three of their penalties saved but Portugal scored all they took, first penalty was taken by Ronaldo.

What a game thanks to the team performance by Slovenia. They could have won the game late when Pepe slipped and allowed the Slovenian striker one-on-one with the Portugal goalkeeper Costa but he saved the effort.

The first six teams that have qualified for the quarter-finals are: Switzerland, Germany, England, Spain, France and Portugal

UEFA have announced they will open an investigation into what Jude Bellingham did after he scored his overhead kick equaliser for England against Slovakia. Apparently, he seems to make a gesture with his hand towards his groin area. Some reports suggest a ban will be excessive and they are anticipating he will receive a fine instead.

Personally, I think Switzerland will beat England when they meet in their quarter-final match regardless of whether Bellingham is playing or is banned.

France and Belgium are 20 minutes in their game and the score is 0-0

Euro 2024 Georgia vs Portugal match. Georgia makes history by winning against Portugal. First time Georgia made a surprise appearance in the tournament for the first time.Georgia strat Euro with a loss against Turkey. They are a blink of elimination of drow on  Czech Republic in the second match. They must win against Portugal to stay in this Euro.  Khvicha kvaratskhelia played very well. Georgia made their goal in just two minutes. Georgia got the second goal in the 75th minute of the match by penalty. Georgia finally won the match 2.0. it's a great achievement of Georgia football Keep this spirit and go long.
No one expect that Georgia national football team will win the match against Portugal football team . Portugal team is legendary team and their performance is top of the rank and I think they underestimate the Georgia team and then we saw that Georgia team won the match one sided.  Mikautadze goal was top class and I became a big fan of him. Ronaldo disappointed me because I like his performance and he is great player of the World but he could not win this match. Portugal team have to emit the weakness and should improve their performance, otherwise they will we see lose against more small teams. The shots of Brazil team were more in number and these were triple to the shots of Georgia team  . The passes of Brazil team were also more and these were two times of Georgia team.

These are the next round of 16 games taking place today Monday 1st July:

France vs Belgium
Portugal vs Slovenia

I think France vs Belgium will be a close match and it is difficult to name a winner but I am leaning towards France. In the other game most people would expect Portugal to beat Slovenia.

These are the games played yesterday:

England 2-1 Slovakia
Spain 4-1 Georgia

England were 1-0 down and already in to time added-on with just 20 seconds away from being knocked out before Bellingham managed to score. It was the first shit in target England had throughout the whole game. Based that performance, Slovakia deserved to qualify because they played excellent pressing football but England have been playing like amateurs throughout the tournament and deserved to lose.

When Georgia took the lead it made Spain realise a big upset was possible therefore they stepped and up and ensured a comprehensive win. It shows why Spain are among the favourites.

The first four teams that have qualified for the quarter-finals are: Switzerland, Germany, England, Spain.

@JollyGood, I have mentioned this elsewhere, but since you are a thorough observer of events of different kinds, what was your feeling when you saw the Italian national team play the way they played?
After the game started I was 100% sure Italy would lose because they seemed like a team in chaos with no plan. I was surprised they were not fighting until the last second before the referee blew his whistle to demonstrate they wanted to win but throughout the tournament they did not play as though they were the current Euro champions. They were fortunate to beat Albania in their opening game and stood no chance against a determined and talented Swiss team.

Let me introduce you to my train of thoughts and to the train of thoughts of my Italian best friends: they were very close to being convinced that the game was rigged. Italy, as if they had a 3-0 lead, passed the ball back and forth at the midfield line, from left to right, from right to left, without attacking for almost 92 minutes. In minute 85' I couldn't trust my eyes. A team would throw everything at Switzerland if they are a goal down or two. Everything! What was this? Frankly, I was totally confused. There were no attacks and they didn't hit a single ball the entire game that could be considered a reasonable shot on target. Is this even possible for an Italian team? I still don't get it. You could see from the Swiss players' reactions after the game that this was not what they expected let alone were hoping for. They must have thought this is going to be the fight of their life and everyone will sink down after the game, celebrating with tears in their eyes that they just beat the former European champion, but no. Some fists, some joy, business as usual. Really weird game and I can't recall having seen anything remotely similar to that from an Italian team ever.
I have never seen the Italian national side play that bad before but I doubt the game was rigged.

To me it was a contest between a group of Swiss players that were proudly wearing their national jersey and playing to win the game versus an Italian team that was devoid of ideas and knew they were going to lose.

These are the games taking place today Sunday 30th June:

England vs Slovakia
Spain vs Georgia

I think is highly like that both England and Spain qualify for the quarter-finals.

England have not been playing well, even their manager Southgate has had supporters throw cups of beer at him not because England won one and drew two of their group games but because they were playing well below expected levels.

As for Spain, they were the only team to win all three games in the group stages and they are clear favourites to win their game.

These are the results from the games played yesterday:

Switzerland 2-0 Italy
Germany 2-0 Denmark

Italy (the defending champions) are out of the tournament. They played abysmal throughout the group stages and were fortunate to come from a goal down to beat Albania 2-1 in their first game. Switzerland played excellent and deserved the win.

Germany beat Denmark in a what what definitely a far more closer contest than many expected. The second goal was brilliant but the first from the penalty though was correct it was extremely harsh. Hojlund had a number of chances to give Denmark the lead but could not get past Neuer who was excellent in goal.

Switzerland and Germany qualify for the quarter-finals

Hey CLS63, didn't know you are Turkish, but that's pretty awesome given that I am from Germany and there is a damn lot going on with the Turks these days! Amazingly intense atmosphere and wouldn't it be awesome if the Germans meet the Turks in the tournament? Wink

But Austria is a hard nut to crack. The friendly doesn't really count that much, but it was at a little indicator that Austria has improved a lot while Turkey hasn't been doing that well in recent years.

Yes I'm from Turkey.  Smiley  I totally agree. The atmosphere is amazing in Germany these days. The main reason for it is that there are so many Turkish people living in Germany. I was expecting us to fill the stadium in our games completely and our people didn't surprise me. I even read that we had the maximum number of spectators in matches so far.

Austria is a really tough opponent. They are one of the best teams in performance so far. We need to play from the heart. And I hope our manager will be careful with his lineup choices.

Switzerland vs. Italy is starting in approximately an hour. I'm pretty confident about Italy and believe the score is going to be 2–1, with Italy winning the match. Hopefully, this match won't turn out like Georgia vs. Portugal. I'm surprised no one is mentioning it, as I never expected Portugal to lose over Georgia with two goals, the first of which was scored in the second minute of the game. I was so confident in Portugal winning that I had placed a quite reasonable bet, only to be proven wrong. Oh well, hopefully today's games have a better outcome.

There will be some upsets along the way, I think we will see some surprising teams go through to the quarter finals. The games played on Saturday 29th have importance because the first one has the current Euro champions (Italy) playing Switzerland and in the other game it has the host nation (Germany) playing Denmark.

On 30th June the England and Spain teams should qualify with relative ease. After that on 1st July we will see a close match in the first game between France and Belgium but in the second game Portugal should also qualify.

It will get very interesting on 2nd July because I have a feeling Romania will beat Netherlands in the first game. I also think Turkiye will beat Austria.

Who do you guys got in the KO stage?

Oof are you Romanian?  Grin  Kidding...  It's just I totally agree with all of your picks except for Romania vs Netherlands.  Dunno today, but when I was watching football more closely some years back, Romania never really had a good team to beat the likes of the Netherlands.  Could be wrong tho.  So I'm interested to hear your take on why Romania.

And I want Belgium for the upset!  And yes, make it go to pens.  Wink

I was thinking on the lines of Austria giving 100% in their group games and playing extremely well (and much more beyond their capacity) therefore they will run out of steam against a determined Turkiye side. About the Swiss, I also expect them to push Italy hard and maybe even win the game but Italy have not played well during this tournament and still made it to the knockout stages therefore I did not want to write them off.

This is a fantastic tournament therefore if we see some upsets happening it will only add to the excitement.

I hope so mate. I wouldn't like us to get destroyed by Austria again. The result of the friendly we played against them just before Euro 2024 comes to my mind. It was crazy to concede 6 goals.  Sad  But it was a friendly of course so we will see.

Italy are the last champions but they have lost quite much strength since then. But it is really hard to be sure of a side in that match. I agree with that. If Italy get past Switzerland, England are very likely to become their opponent. Just as the finale in Euro 2020.  Smiley

But then again this is a totally different atmosphere at these tournaments. Look at Georgia against Portugal or Poland against France or Belgium against Ukraine or or or... You get the point. I think it is great to see that the favorites are just steamrolling all the other teams. It's really a situation where it is not 100% clear that England would beat Slovakia or the Netherlands would beat Romania. If you saw the game Romania - Belgium, I was really impressed by Romania's relentless resistance and how they produced chances that could have given them the equalizer.

Looking forward to all the games as being a no name on paper obviously doesn't mean being a no name on the pitch.

Analysing how some of these games have been played so far, I think as much as some games might have looked like boredraws...it's actually been a competitive competition after seeing teams like Ukraine pack their bags in spite of having 4 valuable points which has seen other teams get into the round of 16, and also other teams being left out because of disciplinary issues such as getting yellow cards which I find to be a brutal way of exiting especially that it wasn't an infield player but the manager...

Otherwise seeing several strong teams qualify, I don't think I can say it's the year of the underdogs and am 100% sure teams like Georgia will be eliminated in the last 16...but history has been made which is the important fact here, well done Georgia Cool

Who do you guys got in the KO stage?  The good teams have been spread out and are playing against second and third tier national squads except France vs Belgium.  But from what I've seen just by looking at the table, France and Belgium didn't really dominate their groups.  The bookies got France as the favorite as they should but dunno...  There are some pretty good players in that Belgian squad.

Anyway, just to make it interesting and so I would force myself to watch.  Made a small bet.  England, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Netherlands parlay at 5.77.  Leeezz gooo...

I'm really indecisive about Switzerland - Italy match. Because I see it very close and anything can happen. I even like the way Switzerland play more than Italy recently. I agree about Germany, England, Spain and Portugal to win in regular time. I expect France to win as well but I'm not sure about an extra time.  Sad  Netherlands showed some vulnerabilities against Austria in defense but I still think they will win against Romania.

When it comes to Austria - Turkey, I would really like us to defeat Austria too. But currently they are one of the best performing teams. I hope we can find a way to win.  Roll Eyes

Match between Slovakia and Romania ended with equal points. Both team played with full strength and they tried to win this match but no team was lucky and no team did one more from the other. O. Duda did excellent goal and he was top performer from  Slovakia team. But the defender of Slovakia team didn't defend well in this match. When they did one goal, they should be defensive but they played openly and then we saw Romania did easily goal and they did the goals equal. I think, there was also mistake of goalkeeper, he could stop the football but he was not super active and he could not judge the mind of R. Marin  and he did gaol at the 37 minutes after starting the match in penalty.
