It's always good when the day starts with good news, and when you get 9 BTC that you thought were lost and when phishing domains fall one after another there is no reason not to be in a good mood Wink

Good news! The phishing clone ecxh[dot]cx is now down:

We are very happy with our long-term cooperation with Thorchain and their team, which allows us to boost our liquidity efficiency by a superior factor with minimal risks.

As always, this donation is awesome!

An efficient and reactive dev team is great (and apparently pretty difficult to find Grin), it deserves to be highlighted!

Our ~1 BTC donation to Thorchain developers: e21424bcd1e59735b5d4b43e70b59d1985e148411e6c197112207cd4c4524ea7

A few months ago, we were put at risk of losing 10 BTC due to a misconfigured transaction coming from our node to the Thorchain network (bb7bab03caa29fd7b6ef1c169f53bb86e47fb75c016d7503540f7420441ad60b) that was made by our automation systems with a purpose of rebalancing our liquidity.

Since Thorchain does not support taproot transactions (despite of how weird it might sound), our 10 BTC swap request was not settled by their network and ignored, resulting into burned 10 BTC. However, some of their heroic devs took the initiative and coded a special patch for their core node software with an exclusive purpose of rescuing our burned funds:

https://gitlab.com/thorchain/thornode/-/merge_requests/3569

That commit was approved, merged and became live in one of the next releases, which due to its code logic precision allowed to "rescue" the funds pulling them out of the network, and that happened in 1031489698c57c45b0797624b844c4f96800902b81a291c4d383cf62f818901c

Due to the fact the "rescued" funds turned into a property of Thorchain developers after the procedure, we had a discussion with one of them (Aquila_9R from Nine Realms, Inc.) on confirmation of some details, where we expressed our disposal and approval to donate 10% of the "rescued" amount to (a) cover the developer work and (b) contribute to the future development of their project. We have then received 90% of the amount, 10% of which were preserved and kept by them as a form of donation ending at their address bc1quvcg26xdqhlhh9xj5juwx4emwkkx5lveywz2qr.

We are very happy with our long-term cooperation with Thorchain and their team, which allows us to boost our liquidity efficiency by a superior factor with minimal risks.

I keep asking myself why they don't start using a more traditional domain in order to avoid these types of errors on the user's side.

We will either (a) have exch.net as our corporate site that will point to current platform domains (exch.cx and Tor address) or (b) completely move the platform to exch.net. We are still in a process of making a decision on that with no ETA.

That is good. But, you should really check this situation, as it is something that is periority.

We are all for adding Liquid BTC and currently there are lots of tests and development process screening undergoing, which means we will have it in the near future (no ETA).
Good news.
Since you are already in process of adding L-BTC don't forget to also add L-USDT, this should be a good alternative for someone who needs stablecoins without using any altcoin blockchains, and fees are almost zero.
I still prefer to use main chains, but it's easy to swap all Liquid assets back to on-chain Bitcoin.

Yes, but only reliable ones and turns our there are very few exist with a such characteristic.
What characteristics and features does a coin and its network need to possess to be considered reliable in your interpretation of the term? Your team has responded positively to certain coins but also rejected some others. One cryptocurrency that has a chance of being supported is solana. However, this is a coin that has had several instances of complete breakdown of its blockchain, where nobody was able to transact with it. To me, that's not very reliable, but I would like to hear what you think is and isn't reliable.

For questions asked in the ANN relating to the service but not directly to specifics orders/exchanges, we will make a grouped answer punctually.

Maybe you should add this information in the exch.cx main page, showing all the support you make to important privacy projects

Already in the TODO list. Changes and additions like that require a lot of time to implement on our platform. Our main focus is our engine reliability and the platform security. Cosmetic and other stuff like that will always have lowest priority.

I know we are not like other platforms that care about their media posts and visual aspects more than their service quality, but that's the main reason why we have biggest volume among non-KYC exchanges at the moment. Who knows - knows for that for sure.

@paid2, it's good that at least one link has been positively resolved (at least as far as the warning is concerned), although I reported both links at the same time with the same explanation, and it would be logical if the other one was handled in the same way (which is not the case at the moment).

Thank you, paid2! Did you report also the websites mentioned after that post I made? I mean these ones:

Yes! ecxh[dot]cx is also reported, exch[dot]exchange as well. The 2 others aren't hosted or online, I don't think we can do much for now..

Here we can only hope for the best... In any case, I saw that Lucius also reported these last sites so, maybe more reports will help...

Yeah, all reports are always greatly appreciated!
The link shared by Lucius (https://safebrowsing.google.com/safebrowsing/report_phish/?hl=en ) is very nice, as it can be used to warn users while waiting for other reports to give more results, for example with exch|dot]exchange:

I also wanted to ask paid2 if he managed to make some more progress with reporting the remaining websites impersonating eXch... Also, meanwhile the list became bigger...

In fact, by putting a machine to do this type of assessment, the probability of false positives was greater than catching fraud.

You are probably right, AI is still "stupid" to be able to correctly detect such things, although every day we can hear and read that it is becoming more and more advanced and that it is only a matter of time when it will completely surpass humans in some things. It just occurred to me that when we already have such technology, why not try to use it for good purposes.

@paid2, thank you for another raffle, I will definitely participate Wink

Considering how easy it is to clone any web site, it is not surprising that every service that can generate profit has its own clones, and no matter how many are detected, there are always at least two undetected for every detected one.
The design of almost any site can be obtained very easily, It is enough just to ask ChatGPT to print the .css code from a specific page.

I honestly didn't know that AI could do such things, but as much as this technology brought some good, it also enabled scammers and hackers to do their dirty work more easily.

I call BS on this, because many times I have ChatGPT to design me a website or to make a website that looks like XYZ followed by a screenshot, and all it can do is write some basic HTML with a white background and a few bounding boxes and regular fonts.

It's really not designed to replace web development at all.

Now if someone actually wanted to clone a website then it is enough to just download the entire website with wget. No AI tools required.

The biggest problem is with hosting providers who simply don't care about such things (and they should).
It is a very large-scale job and it is difficult to make a model that would work reliably, and it can easily be bypassed. In the end, hosting services do not need to deal with content control (except for illegal things like terrorism, drugs, weapons...) on their servers.

If AI already exists, then such companies should use it for some good purposes, and why not to check possible clones and phishing and try to stop them (if not all, at least part). I personally don't think that they couldn't do it, but they obviously don't care, considering that they have no responsibility for such things.

This is tricky because a service can have the same name and be legal and not a scam.
I'm not saying AI can't help, but it's still very complicated. Because having a similar name and providing the same service is not enough to know whether it is a fraud or not.

In fact, by putting a machine to do this type of assessment, the probability of false positives was greater than catching fraud.

I checked the website a short while ago following your post, it is a shame it is still active.

The part I find the most disappointing is that if it has been reported to the domain registrar the onus is on them to suspend the domain and if it has been reported to the web hosting company the onus is on them to suspend the account. At the moment neither has acted.

The website you reported does not open, it is showing an Internal Server Error therefore safe to conclude it no longer poses any form of threat.
About an hour ago, when I first saw your post, I checked that and I got the same error as you.
I just checked it again and unfortunately that clone is working now.
