There is no guarantee facebook is thinking about accepting bitcoin. They already accepted whatsapp and instagram. Right now, it seems like Facebook is getting ready for another new technology by accepting bitcoin. The company is ready to provide financial services and electronic money.
It isn't so much that facebook "accepted" instagram and whatsapp but they rather bought them out.

It is already possible to pay for things via bitcoin on facebook and IMO it is only a matter of time that facebook will start to accept bitcoin for payment for ads and likely credits. Also since it is possible to purchase many gift cards on this forum, I would not be surprised to start to see trading of facebook credits on the marketplace sometime in the future.

The competition from Facebook come from elsewhere. They spend a great deal of money buying out competitions so far (instant gram, whatsapp). But this method of eliminatating competitors come at high cost.

True but becoming the one all location for everyone to meet at means that they can advertise the heck out of it and hold a market advantage over their competition.
Until another upstart comes up to supersede them in one of those areas.

I wonder if Facebook is trying to somewhat buy Bitcoin as in the brand? They bought Oculus Rift and these guys seem like they have no limits on their ambition. They have shitloads of money and im sure they are looking into Bitcoin as we speak.

Yes they are definitely taking a closer look at bitcoins but I think they are planning to launch their own cryptocurrency to substitute the facebook credits.
I think it would make little sense for facebook to substitute a "facebook coin" for their facebook credits. The reason why you or I do not want to have a central authority controlling and keeping track of the amount of money each person has is because we do not want to have to trust this 3rd party central authority. Facebook credits on the other hand are controlled by facebook. In other words they are the central authority that controls and keeps track of the balances of facebook credits. They obviously trust themselves to keep track of these balances properly just like you or I trust ourselves to keep our private keys safe.

To remain competitive, facebook will cave in the way apple did.

What happen with apple? Send me the link.

Apple started allowing bitcoin wallet applications.
Facebook, more or less, has a monopoly.

This could be great for Facebook but if they did implement this and it was used the same way as cash is used now on Facebook you hold the coins on your account it would more than likely make either Facebook or Facebook accounts vulnerable to attack. Facebook would need to find some way to be a lot more safer that what it probably is now if they did consider accepting bitcoins. I don't see bitcoins being accepted by Facebook any time soon with these problems being a main focus.

It would be a negative for facebook credit. They may try to make facebook credit more popular, rather than integrating bitcoin.

I don't think facebook will directly accept soon (at least not within the next two years), but many apps could be developed within facebook. Seems like the logical step until facebook integrates it themselves.
exactly once. all the processes needed for facebook can accept bitcoin. however, I believe to see the development of bitcoin like this then facebook will consider this.

I would love to be able to spend my bitcoins on facebook ads. Promotion is always needed for growth of my business.
The potential for bitcoin is not spending ad dollars in bitcoin to facebook but rather allowing users of facebook to give money to their friends (maybe for paying them back for dinner or a short term loan between friends)

People can pay each other bitcoins without facebook. The benefits is ad money and allowing users to spend bitcoins in the facebook games.
Facebook could provide a very convent way to do this. You may borrow .02 BTC from your friend for dinner but not see them again for several weeks.
This would almost make facebook a central authority of where bitcoins are held. It would also make you vulnerable to hacks as if your facebook was hacked then the hacker could steal all of your coins.

Facebook accepting bitcoins, is maybe the last piece of the puzzle the BTC community needs.
A company which has approximately a billion users, will definitely tip the scale towards BTC.

but, at the same time, if facebook instead launches facebookcoin, i would not trust it. as facebook might have a strong(and unfair) lead on the currency.
