Op I don't think the Topic tally with the story. From what you said and what is in the article, it is called misappropriation of funds. He didn't sell the kid to play gamble but to pay debt but was diverted to Gambling. Though that is very bad of the father and the people who but the kid. Those who bought the kid are illegal child trafficking persons. If it was orphan baby home, they would have some legal procedures which would have involved the two parents to acknowledge their conscience before the process would have been activated. Before a gambler diverts funds meant for another thing, he has thought that he would win the game and double the capital so he can pay the debt and use the remaining balance to do another. Or if the balance is big enough to settle the kid for him to take back the kid, he would go back to the person and take the kid back again but things turn around.
The man sold his baby to pay his debts and ended up using the money realised from the sales to gamble. I don't know who is more sick between the gambler who sold his child and the buyer who is comfortable buying a child. I know people can go to any length to gamble, but that action taken by that gambler should not be overlooked. That is broad daylight human trafficking just to raise money to gamble. No one is safe around him anymore, if he is given another chance, he would cause more harm. Aside from just gambling, he is notorious and very irresponsible. That man's level of addiction has gotten to the worst stage and it will be best he is is taken to any correctional centre where he will learn a new lifestyle.
I can't read the full article but it seems that Age and Zoomic are right and the father didn't sold his baby to fund his gambling addiction, but to pay his debts. Without justifying it at all, I think this was quite common until a few decades ago, when people were starving to death in some places, but yet it is inadmissible, no matter how serious the situation in which one finds oneself. I'd personally prefer to die because of my debts before my children were put at risk.
Unfortunately, that's also a story we've heard about several times: the story about people with a serious addiction problem who is not able to control himself if he sees himself with money in hand. Otherwise, it is incomprehensible that a father can act like this with his own child.
