I wonder what's the worst here, that he sold his kid online, that he did so for just under $1000, that he has used that money for online gambling, or that there are people out there who would buy kids online and obviously not for taking care of them but god knows what!
And how did that ad even manage to stay online on Facebook and who is going to answer an ad on Facebook about selling a kid, this would look even to the average criminal like a honeypot operation!

But as shocking as this might be, googling a bit it's not something new nor a unique case, like this Chinese couple that sold unwanted kid after kid to pay for their gambling:

I read this news yesterday, it really is an extremely bizarre situation, selling his own son to gamble does not show that he is just an addict, but rather a person with serious mental problems, because apparently he has no feelings for his own son. The problem here is more of a mental health problem, this father is completely out of touch with the reality of the real world.
It may not be related to mental problem. It can be gambling addiction which is what it is. He wants to pay a dept. That means he borrowed money from somewhere before and he wants ti pay the money back and decided to sell his child. I guess he borrowed the money to gamble and he lost the money thinking he can maybe double it or triple it while gambling. He sold his child and still feel like gambling and also lost the money on gambling and he has not pay his dept. He is not worthy of the child. If the person that bought the child is rich and able to take care of the child, it is better the child remain with the person. All that matters is the child safety.

Surely facebook is not aware since this illegal. Probably this idiot guy use different keyword to bypass Facebook security for illegal sell.
It is quite unsettling if there is a community for something like this on an open social network like Facebook, for keywords to work, there needs to be a group of people that understand them and are willing to buy another person. I will expect such a trade to happen on the secret, dark web.

This person most probably has other addictions fueling their debt and lifestyle and should have a mental disorder which causes them to lack inhibition.

I need to get the app to read the full news, can anyone confirm that the child has been safely recovered?

The story also said that the man advertised the sale of his child on Facebook and I'm wondering if Facebook is aware this. If this story is true that means that people advertise child trafficking through Facebook in Indonesia. This should be seriously discouraged.

This is one example of what someone who is addicted to gambling can do, he is out of his mind and cannot think what is right; all he can think of is where to get money to sustain his addiction, Here in our country, this crime is human trafficking and the one who committed this has criminal liability.
Even the takers or the buyers have criminal liability. This is strongly discouraged by our government, which is why they changed it from civil to criminal offense, I have heard a lot of this in our news channel, but people are doing this out of poverty, but selling your child to sustain your gambling addiction is abominable, he will regret this later when his child has grown up.

The city's top cop as said in the article knew children re being sold in facebook with prices ranging from 10-15M in local currency.  But they are probably not monitoring it every now and then even when its a common thing. Its more surprising to know buying and selling children is common. After investigation those buyers were also arrested which the authorities suspected them to be part of a larger human trafficking network.

That's what gambling addiction can do. Selling their flash and blood seem to be just nothing to the addict as long as he can gamble. The mother should get rid of this man, he brings nothing to the family anymore.

I just read the shocking news now on social media and I'm wondering the extreme that people will go to fund their gambling addiction. According to the news, it said that the Indonesian father confessed to selling his baby with the intention to pay his dept but instead ended up gambling with the money. This shows that gambling addiction is a very serious problem, something that can make somebody to get money by all means to fund their crave for gambling.

There has been a post I read sometimes back on same similar case of which the parent sold their child to sponsor their betting habit.
This ain't any different and am sure that it might just be highly exaggerated because Facebook won't allow such to trend on their page without deleting it as they do to others who post child trafficking and child sex videos.

Am sure that the father in this story is also very conversant with the slot machine and from my research and findings, alot machine games are very much addictive than other gambling games.
This is just another case of the irresponsible side of parenting that adults go through and it shows that having a wife or having kids ain't a guarantee for a parent or both parents being responsible.

Gambling addiction is a terrible disease. Actions we won't take on normal day gambling addiction can make a gambler take such actions. There is no solid reason to justify his actions. A man like that should be sentenced to prison. Indirectly it is human trafficking and child abuse not minding if it is his child or not. He should be set as an example to others.

On the other hand, these social media should take full responsibility for identifying illegal activities on their platforms. They should prevent any harmful content from being shared. They can invest in AI or other technologies to assist in moderating and detecting any illegal content immediately it is shared on their platform.
