Sports fans are one of the most dedicated and most loyal kind of people I know. It doesn’t matter what the sport is, all fans pick their favorite and stick with them through thick and thin. Maybe it’s a bit difficult to explain to someone who doesn’t follow sports as intensely but being a fan of a team doesn’t mean supporting them only because they are winning.

Even if your favorite team constantly loses or shows bad performance, you are still a fan and you are still hoping for them to gain back momentum and start winning again. If someone were to change the team they support based on the result, how fun will that be? Nothing will bring a sports fan more delight than seeing their favorite team climb their way up to the top.

However I’m curious whether some of you have changed your favorite teams over the years. It is not as simple as having a different favorite food compared to when you were 10. A favorite sport team, to me at least, will always be your favorite. So if you did change your favorite team, what was the reason?

I've been gambling for a long time now, about two years, but I bet a lot on Manchester United and my favorite team. However, as long as I have known Manchester United, I have never seen a change of coach in Manchester United. Currently, Eric Ten Haag is the difficult representative of the Manchester United team and responsible for the poor performance.

He has been in charge of the Manchester United team for a long time, but he is not ready to leave the role yet. Although I have bet on Manchester United many times this season and I have lost almost every time, so I ignore this team because I always lose by betting on this team and I want to enter a new good and reliable team

If we're talking about football, then my favorite team is Manchester United.

I don't really know why I'm a fan of Manchester United, I guess it's because they're very strong in the past. But, look at their performance now, they're playing like shit after Sir Alex Ferguson left the team.

Since Manchester United not able to be one of top team in Premier League and other teams mostly bullied Manchester United fans, I choose to not be a Manchester United fan anymore. Tongue

The performance of the team can indeed influence the fanbase as how can you support them if in case they have less to no more games to play. Though if we talk football, they will always have a match to play. However, if the team is continuously losing, the tendency is you will have no motivation to cheer them up as you are already disappointed to what may possibly happen.

The affections of a true sport fan is always joyful that nomatter how bad your favourite team would perform you will always be proactive to defend them in the public when being mocked.

Perhaps you can always hold upon your teams years past glories to hype them at some points of arguing with others team fans.
This is the reason why I respect Arsenal fans a lot, if you're looking for fans that'll defend their club in arguments and make references to past glory, then they're the ones. The club always comes short of glory for one reason or another, even from the days of Arsen Wenger, although I'm not their fan but I wouldn't mind them winning a major trophy. I used to support Chelsea, back then but now I'm good with Manchester city. Although when it comes to gambling, I don't mandate myself to bet on them everytime, they're however my favorite.

Just remember that at the end of the day, we are all just fans and the hard work is done by those athletes. We can glorify them by being proud of what they have achieved inside the field. But getting enemy out of bad discussion is I believe not a point in this sports.

Changing favorite team, in my opinion, is like betrayal. Your favorite team is your favorite team, so that you can remain loyal to it no matter what, any difficulties or failures. I can’t even imagine any reason to turn away from your favorite team. It seems unthinkable to me. Yes, in my heart, I can speak unflatteringly about them (during failures), but this doesn't mean that I no longer believe in them. Deep down, I still continue to root for them.

In the European leagues my favorite teams are constantly changing. I can't change my favorite team in my country, it's impossible for me to do that, but I follow the trend in European leagues. I can name Chelsea's squad with Drogba and Lampard by heart. I can name Manchester United's squad with Giggs and Scholes by heart. Years from now I'll be able to recite Manchester City's current squad by heart. It's a great comfort. I think you should try it once...

If you want to try a simulation of a suffering fan in the Turkish league, I recommend you to try Beşiktaş. It won't hurt you to try it once, please try it... Smiley
Lol 😁, constantly changing your favorite team in the European league doesn't speak well of you when it come to fans loyalty, this possibly tells you are the type that only support and fan a club that is seen to be doing really well, like I believe from this comment of yours that you are now fanning Manchester city, maybe when Manchester city starts failing and Arsenal starts winning, you will move your fanship and support from Manchester city to Arsenal, where then is the fun that comes with supporting a club through thin and cranny?

Anyways, maybe you meant something else other than the above, but this is what I personally understand from your post, but most importantly, no hard feelings at all 😉, just have fun doing what you love doing and makes you happy, I just felt like stating my opinion 😎

Been a sport fan comes with a whole lot of loyalty to deal with and only the loyal ones are usually able to enjoy the fun of been a fan, for those who consistently switch whenever their team isn't doing well I doubt if the get the full fin in been a fan at all. For me I have stayed with my team ever since I started supporting them and I don't intend to switch any soon even in times when they have the worse performance such that they struggle to get to the top of the table or even be amongst the average team I still stayed loyal to them only that I don't feel happy through those periods but isn't enough reason for me to change not after understanding the dynamics of football where some team literally got relegated and now they are back doing so well.

I remember when I was around 11 or 12 years old, I knew nothing about football at the time but I was always hearing about different football clubs like Chelsea, Manchester united, Liverpool, Manchester city and the rest, we had no electricity in our community, and because of this, non in the community owned a TV 📺, so, I never had had any opportunity of watching any of this clubs play football, I just use to hear people discussing about this clubs and all that.

One day, some one asked jokingly asked me which of this clubs is my favorite, I told him Arsenal was my favorite, not minding that Arsenal was one of the worst performers at the time, he laughed and asked why I choose Arsenal, I was quiet because I don't actually know the reason why I choose Arsenal.

I grew up and eventually started having opportunities to watch some of this clubs from time to time, and till today, Arsenal is still my favorite team, regardless of their performance or anything, I still choose and stick with them.

I am one of the people who changed the favorites, I used to admire Manchester United, then turned to Man City a few years ago, because I was very bored and annoyed in my environment, Manchester United continued to experience a setback, so I got it Ins insults from my environment, therefore I switch, may be quite silly but it is much better for my mental state in the toxic environment that discusses football, but I have a favorite team in each different league.

If we talk about being a real supporter or fan of a club, I doubt if one will think of changing a club because they're not doing wel.
since 2005 I got interested in anything club football, I have always fan Chelsea football club,  I have followed them walk through all the good and bad seasons, even when they've not achieved their first champions league title. But on the other hand, I got a friend who was a lover of Arsenal football club but due to Arsenal ups and down, and their long awaited that has remained unachievable, he left to support Manchester City, and he is their fan even as I speak. Things can change as regards to one's love for a club,  depends on Individual.

Now, when I really love a team, I choose not to bet on them and just enjoy watching them play. It seems like my gambling mentality has taken over my fanboy character.
But do you know that this depend on the performance of the club that you are a fan of. Let us take Sporting CP in Portugal as an example. If you are a fan of that club, you will still prefer to bet on the club this season because the club players are playing excellently. If the club that you are supporting is playing very good, you will still prefer to bet on the club in some matches. But there are some clubs that were good in the past but not good as of now. Example is Manchester United. People that are fans of Manchester United can not bet on the club since some seasons ago. Not that the club is that bad but they are not playing good. They are just average.

In my case, I don't change my favorite team. For example, I'm a fan of the following teams:

Portuguese League = Benfica

Benfica is not at the top of the table this season, and they didn't win the league last season, but even so, I've always been a Benfica fan for over 10 years.

Budesliga = Bayern

I've also been a Bayern fan for over 10 years, and last season Bayern didn't win the league. but I still support Bayern

Ligue1 = PSG

I've been a PSG fan for over 4 years and even if they didn't win anything, I wouldn't change them

La Liga = Real Madrid

I've been a Real Madrid fan for over 20 years, even if there's a season where we don't win anything, I always support Real Madrid

Serie A = Juventus

I've been a Juventus fan for over 10 years, even in these last few years when Juventus hasn't won Serie A, I won't abandon Juventus

Turkish League = Fenerbahce

I've been a fan for 4 years, but even if we're not winning the league, I won't give up on Fenerbahce

Premier League = Liverpool

I've been a Liverpool fan for over 15 years, even with Manchester City dominating the Premier League, I won't give up on Liverpool

To drum your support for a club and openly say that you are a fan of a club means that you gonna support them in their ups and downs moments. I laugh when I see some individuals say that they are no longer fans of a club in the club down moments, only to move to another club that performs better.

Honestly, to be a fan of a club, one should be dedicated and loyal to its club. One shouldn't just pick a club for nothing's sake, to have it as their favorite team without thinking to stand by them even at the club's down moments. A true fan should stand strong and drum their support for how long it takes for the team to bounce back in performance because that's what makes the person a diehard fan.

Oh definitely. Teams have come and go every now and then, players and rosters change and pretty sure that's more than enough for your favorite team to change. Personally the best example I can give was me being a fan of OG all of a sudden in the Dota 2 scene. Anyone familiar with TI8 knows why lol. That series, together with TI9 was just peak. Before that I was a fan of Team Spirit but that anime type bullshit OG pulled out of their asses just made me change lol.

Infact, the love accompanied if be a true sport fan especially football sports can be appetizing and even when that your favorite team is not impressing you in a long run, you will always have that courage to keep holding on hoping better days would come ahead of time.
And deep inside, you could go mad at every silly mistakes of your team without expressing it out to an opposition club fan.

I'm not sure though if I have a favorite team let's say in basketball, I just love the game and so I don't have any favorite team for now. I usually when I bet, I want to be not biased on one team and make the right decision. Because I know that if I have one, for sure I'm going to favor them and my decision will obviously be clouded and it might result in more losses on my end.

But if I'm going to change or switch teams? most likely if my favorite team is really not doing good, players are bad, coaches doesn't know what he is doing or even if the owner himself is getting not so good players.

So if you did change your favorite team, what was the reason?
Are you talking about a club or an individual's favorite team, I think in the world of football a team consists of 11 people, as far as I know most people are fanatics and their favorite is the club or just the midfielder, goalkeeper or striker, The distance I see is that football fans' favorites are for one team, there are many clubs, but within the clubs they are divided again as I said above.

To be honest, I don't guide teams, I only guide one of my favorite teams, such as the striker and midfielder or the goalkeeper, these three people are my favorites, regardless of which club they play for, the point is that I always follow them.

So these three teams are not playing, of course I don't want to place a bet, if these three teams are not playing, so in the world of football I am not a favorite for those 11 teams, only certain ones.

Due to circumstances, my favorite teams vary. This is due to my husband's job, and of course, the teams belong to the country we live in. Yes, when you are interested in the team's win not just as a fan but as a person directly related to it, you still want to see the team's results excellent.
But yes, some fans are real fans, and sometimes they know better about the players' condition and way of playing than the coaches who come and go. I sometimes listen to such fans, and I think that some of them would become good managers of their teams since they are ready to follow them everywhere, regularly supporting them.

If its possible t be a Fan to more than one club in football then i have two favorite teams. One is in the LA Liga and the other in the EPL. I have been a football lover  since when i was a kid, so i rarely miss watching football games which i enjoyed watching with my dad. My favorite team in the LA Liga is Real Madrid. I love how they play in every competition, giving it their best till the last minute.

Sports fans are one of the most dedicated and most loyal kind of people I know. It doesn’t matter what the sport is, all fans pick their favorite and stick with them through thick and thin. Before someone can call himself a sport Fan he must be passionate about the club he is supporting  both in good and bad seasons. Because this is a normal thing in football that some season becomes difficult for your favorite team to play well.  When it comes to that time, your support is the best thing that you can give as a Fan. Any person who will switch to another club because his previous club is down performing is not a true Fan. He is only there because they were doing fine and when they start doing so bad he run away.
