My 0.9.6 Client 1579071, same as the biggest FTC pool Coinotron out there, seems like some pools didnt update. But shouldnt be an issue anyways?

EDIT: Bittrex wallet is also fine.

So whats the best way to cold storage this coin?

Download FTC Wallet, run on Ubuntu offline, Open wallet, Save Wallet.Dat with password OR Print Public Key/Private Key on paper ?

I use paper wallets.

A few years ago a firend of mine designed some based off BitcoinPaperWallets.com and I modified the code to work with Feathercoin. DOnt trust my modifications, do your own. Here is info along with the wallet images.

https://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/7794/ftc-paper-wallet

So to test if they work, I can always import the priv key into the wallet and verify the public address AND sign/verify a message to make sure it works?

Correct, to test I created a wallet and sent a very small amount to it then tried to sweep the private key back into a wallet. Once I knew it worked ok I felt confident putting more coin on each one. I dont know if signing/verify will tell you much in this case.

Yeah but if you sweep isn't it not considered cold storage anymore?

Yes, the first wallet is sacrificed to verify the process is correct. Once you know it will work if you follow the same process and you can be reasonably sure the following ones will work just the same.

Oh ok, that's smart I understand your idea now.

Thanks

I found a very old wallet.dat backup file from 2013 and need help recovering my FTC. These coins are old and from well before the fork.

Can someone give me a step-by-step walk through? I promise to send a tip once I recover the coins.

Very simple. Download the latest version. Start it. Close it. Replace the newly created wallet with the said backup wallet. Open it and sync it fully.

After syncing, you will see the balance if it was not spent early. In case, if it misses to show.

Go to debug->console and type 'repairwallet'. Solved.

I installed v0.8.7.3 and it's currently displaying an update alert.

But when I went to get the Windows update, a forum post said it contained a virus?

There you go: https://github.com/FeatherCoin/Feathercoin/releases

Official wallets from Github. Sorry if that thread did misslead some of you.

The windows binary is still throwing detection warnings: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/f53659cf0c0d0d0b65571f0a59c08bfb63c663d0db02353a79651657df032d5b/analysis/

Kasperski: not-a-virus:RiskTool.Win64.BitCoinMiner.brz - Its detected as BitcoinMiner

The other one is a false-positive.

EDIT: Btw this is the virustotal from the official bitcoin.exe : https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/8960defc12287dd9248b99bab02a0854c072e6a3850757036c585cbd628217bf/analysis/

Yes, that is a false positive. No issues. You can use it. How is syncing going on?
