Well, to be honest, if Australia doesn't win against Indonesia, then I don't think they should qualify for the world cup.

Indonesia is not a strong opponent, and anything else other than an Aussie victory should be out of the question if they have any hopes of qualifying to the world cup.

But I don't know, maybe they would also manage to qualify even if they lose or draw given that now they are going to have so many extra teams in the tournament.

World cup 2026 is getting closer and closer, as we can still remember the previous world cup where we witnessed good to legendary performances. I want to start a small discussion or also as a question; why many football fans, even what I have seen here, they surround and relate every competition to either Cristiano or Messi? Why can’t we see discussions about the new stunning players, young and talented creating great opportunities and goals. In my opinion, Ronaldo is looking at Messi's achievements as a point he needs to surpass in order to be number 1. He has already won almost everything, Messi has won everything. And really, when you see a player like Ronaldo who has won everything in Europe, you expect him to also win something on a world level. So not having managed to win the World Cup is a shame for him. And he is right. The worst thing about all this is that Portugal has a good squad, but they can't even reach the final. They lose to very weak teams in the World Cup.

A tree does not make a forest is a very common proverb i believe we all are very well familiar with, in my language, there is also a similar saying that translates to "when a tree stands, another tree will stand beside it, and that is how a forex is formed".

Messi was able to win every award in football including the world cup not because he is the world best, but because he has a team and club members that plays inline with his vision, Argentina won the last world cup not by the effort of Messi alone, but as a result of team understanding themselves and working together.

Ronaldo can achieve what messi have achieved in the coming world cup, if he can get all of his team members to play in accordance with his vision, this is not an easy task unfortunately for him, but I don't think there is any reason for him to be ashamed if by the end of his football career, he is still not able to win the world cup for his country, maybe he can stop looking at Messi's achievements and be grateful for the ones he himself have already achieved.

I remembered back in 2020 Ronaldo said in his interview if "the World Cup was a dream." In 2022, after his club lost, he said, "his dream of winning the World Cup for his national team has ended." This shows that the World Cup was an unfulfilled dream of him.

Also, it's wrong to say we can't measure success only by trophies. In fact, trophies are everything for the footballers. A trophy is a thing that will complete a footballer's journey.

The players football teams are competing against each other to get the trophy, and not to be a record holder.

The truth is that Cristiano Ronaldo knows very well that the FIFA World Cup is the biggest football trophy and there's no way it can be equivalent to the European Championship he won with the Portugal national team but I believe his reason of saying that winning the Euros in 2016 is the same as winning the World Cup is just to cover up the question of not being able to win every trophy that's been won by his biggest rival Lionel Messi.
Like you rightly said, he's a world record holder and has won a whole lot in football so he should forget about defend winning or not winning the World Cup and focus on his exciting career.
