Looks like an interesting project, I think the UX/UI could be improved but nonetheless it's a great idea.

What can you say about this thing though: Coinbase CEO Armstrong Wins Patent for Tech Allowing Users to Email Bitcoin. What is your take on this one?

Disclaimer: All statements below are just personal opinion and, unofficial

Overall, the coinbase's (abbr. "cb") patent is more kind of extention to their exchange, while our solution is more kind of extention to today's email system. In another word, you can change "email" to "instant message" and, "email address" to "message user name", then cb's patent still works, although it may not be granted. However such change cannot be applied to our solution in general, as it is to send email "together with" digital currency and, partly based on SMTP/POP3 protocol.

Furthermore, cb's solution is a traditional centralized approach, that means, all payments rely on their exchange. To this point, cb's solution looks more an overlay of "message + payment". If we use "email + fiat", then it is how paypal works today. Such structure also breaks the characteristics of email that, when an email is sent out to receiver, the receiver should not rely on sender or other party, which is also what digital currency like BTC has. To this point, what we are trying to solve is to enable email system to have the same cross-platform capability to transfer value with help of digital currency. In this way, individual email host can also be its own value host and, a centalized 3rd party is nice to have, but not mandatory.

A bit of a fustrating post to read, definetly isn't good on the eyes but it's very interesting... I like it a lot. I will recommend you to get a more graphic thread, it'll make this a lot easier Smiley.

There isn't a lot of information/concerns I have, I do think there is a huge need for wallet, email and other add-on features, and this is a great step towards it. Getting approved by Outlook was definetly a step forward to success.

Good luck!

Thank you for the comment, which is highly valuable.

We have fixed the link, which should be working now.

Regarding security, it is true that there is a password protection when accessing an Outlook user's Finmail account. In the user guide at https://www.finmail.com/user-guide there is a statement that:

"To prevent someone from pretending to be you to reset your password when you are away from using email client, use a mailbox that cannot be viewed through your current email client, i.e. Hotmail/Outlook, as backup mailbox."

The overall system design is similar to a combination of online banking and digital currency: Finmail brings hypertext communication capability to both systems. In addition, Finmail brings borderless value transmission capability to online banking system, while it enables digital currency user to use email address as sender/receiver's payment address as well as their identifier. Therefore, we hope the new system will make collaborations based on Internet easier and, improve productivity.

The current add-in is still at early stage and, we are trying to make it more convenient. If you are interested in, you are welcome to give user experience feedback, improvement proposals or even code review, through our open tasks 1 and 2, i.e. https://www.finmail.com/post/task-1-finmail-add-in-survey. You may also get reward, although may not be as much as Bitcoin trading Wink

The link that you give in the original post is dead, it links to a 404 now.

This looks kind of interesting? I guess it is useful to send payments at the same time as an email, so I guess it could save some time. What kind of security measures do you have implemented? Is it possible to, say if you're in an office, sit at the desk of someone with this Outlook extension installed and send all of their wallet contents to an address you control, or is there password/phrase protection?

The Finmail Add-in for Outlook and Hotmail has been approved by Microsoft and, is available through Office Store

We have a great news that, the Finmail add-in for Outlook and Hotmail has been approved by Microsoft recently. Anyone can install it through Office Store.

The approve procedure takes more than 2 months in total, with several changes and improvements regarding user privacy, server stability, asset security and ease of use, etc. For example, as to financial security, all Finmail add-in users are required to create a Finmail account, sign in before using and sign out after using.

To make the add-in more applicable and convenient, we kindly request you to try the Finmail add-in and give some feedback. Our current priority is still to introduce a stability coin like USDT to the add-in, while taking account into other features like improving text templates inserted to the email content.

For more details about installation please refer to https://www.finmail.com/technical-support

Thank you for your support.
