Appreciate your going to the lengths of explaining to me thank you Molecular.  Sorry if I came over as critical - was more perplexed really.  Thanks for the offer but I went with Plan A - especially bearing in mind your purchase price was more than I'm currently needing to pay.  Good luck with your experiment.

Your criticism (doesn't have to be negative) is welcome. There are many other ways I could've done this. Also, the goals are not always as clear-cut as one thinks.

Sometimes I do things not only for the profit. Feels good to distribute these beautiful coins to many people Wink

Wow, that's astoundingly complicated for a 'fire sale' where I assume the primary objective is to sell off stock.

I was about to make a Casascius order then got excited by the possibility of cheap coins only to find your pricing is designed to discourage people from buying more than one and to reward those who happen to see the post first.  I don't get it!  You appear to be maximising the odds you'll have loads of tiny orders to pack in loads of little envelopes each of which needs to be sent to a different address. I'm intrigued by your reasoning - would you share?

For those who do want more than a few, Casascius is currently offering 10 physical 1BTC coins for 11BTC including international shipping.  Not that I'm intending to throw a wet cloth over your fire sale Molecular but I thought I should point out the obvious to those who want more than a couple, and/or who are late and/or may be struggling with your pricing algorithm!

This deserves an answer. Yes, it's a pretty complicated way to sell off stock, but I want to learn about different selling modes and just get some experience as to what works and what doesn't. Some psychology involved here, I guess.

As for shipping small quantities: That's the idea. Look as the pricing structure casascius has: 1 Coin: 1.50, 10+ coins 1.08 each. So I can only really compete below 10 coins for that reason alone. Add to that some shipping and insurance complications (shipping from germany) and I can't really compete below 5 or so (weight and contraints and insurance limit on postal service letter, UPS/DHL/... are prohibitively expensive sending packages).

Mike wanted to offload small order shipping and he did that by way of pricing. It clearly works and I'm taking some load off him. If you want 10+ coins you should probably order from him. For 3 to 10 coins we can always talk and I can work out a price for you if you tell me the destination, but it's probably more economical (assuming you're in the states) to have it shipped from a reseller on the right side of the pond.
