Too bad we don't have the name of this mystery boxer because until we get the details of this former boxer, we can't tell if he can stand a chance against Floyd. Who knows if the stipulation of the contract is Floyd also has no idea until the day of the fight happens, this will be exciting because there is a surprise factor on who will be the opponent that even Floyd or the referee has no idea.
I think they have fighters already that is ready to fight to Mayweather but they can't decide who would it be, that's they have to hide his name yet. If my hunch was right, I think the Japanese people are now choosing who's the tough fighter that could stand to Mayweather and not like on his previous fight with Tenshin that is totally unmatched.

Obviously this talking all about money Mayweather announce to the public he plan for the retirement but it is clear 4 to 5 matches for this year he surely to earn billion dollar. I bet Floyd vs Myster Boxer. And hope the one fight matches will be include the rematch with Pacman.
Yes, it's all about money and in the name of the business as well. Win or loss he can still have money on that fight and he is confident that he win that fight. He didn't feel ashamed of what they said on Manny Pacquiao team that Floyd Mayweather there's no interest of boxing career and wanted to resign but now he fights against with Myster Boxer. Ain't know if his(Floyd) opponent would win this fight but I still bet too with Floyd.

I have an idea, can you guys create a betting thread with an escrow on this fight? Just have fun Grin

Another exhibition match is on the way this coming July for Floyd Mayweather. The opponent remains un-named as of this moment and all they know for now is he is a "former Japanese boxer", fight will be held in Japan and it will be in July this year and he will be paid $10 Million USD for this match. According to the news posted by TMZ, Floyd still have 4-5 matches this year and all matches combined can earn him $80 Million USD.

*topic will be updated once the opponent will be named and the exact date and venue has been announced.

I really do not see how this is any good for the sport or for the upcoming hopeful Pacman fight. If he is making this much from these small fights he may not even try to go for a fight with Pacman or at least will have such a huge upperhand that he will probably say he wants most of the cut from the Pacman fight which in return will make Pacman decline the fight.

I mean these fights last only couple minutes and we have seen from that kickboxer dude that Mayweather is just miles miles away from him and the talent level is just not even close. Dude straight up humiliated that fighter and if he keeps on doing that for whole year I doubt he will have any entertainment value left in him. He is probably milking his last dimes from the sport and I hope he fights with Pacman as well but after that he better have good investments because dude is getting super old super quickly and will eventually be too old to fight.

Rofl at the thread title.

What's up with Mayweather these days and why does he keep doing all these dog and pony shows?  Is he actually broke?  I mean even after the huge event with McGregor?
He just wanted to be relevant I guess. He says he quit and retired, but it's hard to leave boxing itself because that what made him famous. And since Pacquaio has back to back wins, he still wants people to talk about him and be in the conversation. I don't think his broke, he just simply wanted to stay in the limelight so to speak.  Grin
Or maybe this is another publicity to refreshes the name since he was almost forgotten lol

Anyway even if he made this fight or not, what he needs to answer is the invitation of Manny Pacquiao’s team to have a rematch since this is unfinished business.and if he is really capable of fighting why choose exhibition games when the real action awaits him

.. snip ..
There's a lot of money currently being thrown at Rizin MMA in japan. I wouldn't be surprised if Floyd's next opponent was either from Rizin or one of the asian kickboxing promotions. Floyd's a massive pay per view draw and celebrity worldwide, having him fight in japan must be huge from a promotional perspective. They could conceivably pay Floyd $10+ million per fight against subpar competition and easily make their money back from Floyd's massive draw power and brand recognition.
.. snip..

But I can't really understand Japanese promotions willing to get Floyd that bigger money, how can they make their money back since its based on Japan only? Yes, Floyd is a brand name itself, but its just confined in Japan to an extend to some Asian countries I don't know how can they recover it back, to be honest.

Floyd had an exhibition boxing match with japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in december of 2018. You can find clips of it on youtube. I think Floyd accepts these fights due to the lower level of boxing in japan and them being relatively easy money.

I can't claim to know specifics or details of their business dealings but afaik Conor McGregor is guaranteed $10 million per fight in the UFC as stated by Lorenzo Fertitta. Would tend to think Floyd is doing better than that in japan.
For sure on peoples mind do boggles about why Japan would spent out $10M per fight with Mayweather since they do know the outcome of such fight. There would always be a reason and they
wont really just waste up money if they wont get any benefits and as you mentioned this really gives some huge promotional perspective.

Seems all of Mayweather and related to him always involved money even for only exhibition fight he still can earn huge money from it and next fight against mystery fight not so interesting for me because possibly his upcoming opponent will be under of his level of class and eventually he will win the fight
Not 'eventually' but 100% guaranteed that he will win the fight, hehehe. It's now obvious, that Floyd despite making tons of money, is very greedy and will choose an easy fight. Is people still talking about his boxing reputation? No doubt that he has ruin it already specially if he goes for another easy exhibition or circus or whatever people are going to call it in July. hahaha.

I thought this is only a single match but it do clears out that this would be 4-5 matches that will able for him to earn $80M usd. Not bad actually if those boxers arent just good enough or typically an exhibition match.
As a boxer you wont really able to refuse such offer. Imagine earning $10M on a very simple bout wont really put you in any hesitations not to agree.
4-5 Boxers faces will surely sleep, climb, face down on the canvass this year. lol

They're just going to make money again, I don't think I believe in its fight like fighting a MMA player they just fooling us hitting each other in a couple of rounds and earn Million Dollars and now an unnamed fighter will be held so people will be interested to watch their fight and earn money again probably this is just a campaign so people will get interested. What's going to be in his next match? A fight with a kangaroo?

I thought it would be naoya inoue but he is not former Japanese boxer, he is still active on boxing.

Btw it says "A Japanese boxer, a former boxer, from what I heard, I got a call today." in this site: https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/8435989/floyd-mayweather-to-fight-a-former-japanese-boxer-in-first-of-five-exhibitions-that-will-make-him-62m/

Well, I watched his youtube video and he didn't mention the name of the Japanese boxer, what he said his the boxer is former Japanese boxer and I believe he haven't know his name either. Like he said, he's not ready to talk about fight and it all about been smart. Therefore, we cant be sure if Naoya Inouec was indeed the boxer he's going to fight this year.

He might not mentioned the names, but if its on another Japanese fighter, and as I have said in previous threads, Japanese boxers didn't compete in a high weight class, never seen them competing in the weight class where Mayweather at, so this is really not something boxing fans wanted to see to in July, another glorified sparring session. Anyhow, it's evident that he is afraid to fight Manny Pacquiao so there's nothing we can do and let the fans judge his reputation as he is becoming more of a joke fighter really.

I'm sure it will be another boring fight.
Floyd earning that amount as if he really entertained fans, I'd stay away and will not watch the fight.
There is no hype in here, why not just focus on negotiating with Manny than getting himself busy doing these easy fights.

All of this exhibition fight just for money, i wonder why Mayweather wouldn't want to beat a real and pro boxing fighter instead of unbalanced opponent? He's just doing it for money and nothing else, i wonder who would be that Japanese boxer they are talking?

Some say that the possible Japanese fighter would be Takashi Miura.
Super featherweight ex-champion? What about 126-130 lbs? Floyd fight at 147 lbs and can get re-hydrated at 150 lbs or more fight night. But since he is fighting exhibitions, weight doesn't matter prior or during the fight. But this is just another circus fight.
Yep, just like what they said, it is just an exhibition match just like his last fight on during it's a three rounds match. There is no worthy fighter for Mayweather in Japan atm or maybe he is choosing his opponent carefully then this just proves that he is just doing it for money and nothing else. He said, on his interview that the fight would be great because he wouldn't risk his health and he would earn a $10m for an exhibition fight.

Probably mayweathet will just run again and make a fun fight. It's very obvious that he wants only money, he is not a pro in this league, just literally a joker who wants kaching. Even in the battle with pacquiao, there's a money involved and mafia there.

All of mayweather's recent fights are simply for the money. I mean, we all know he's going to win regardless of whoever that mystery boxer is because that's what he does, win fights. But it's becoming more like a circus really.
