I think he himself didn't thought that he will be staying for a little time there. Dani Alves signed a contract till the summer and Barca didn't provided him contract extension when it reached its end. It was clear that he will leave. Maybe Barca thought they didn't need him anymore.

Reasons to why Dani Alves left Barcelona was all because he wanted some time of to prepare very well for the FIFA World Cup but Barcelona refused. He was not happy with the decision and opted for the exit, saying Barcelona don't cherish players who have made them who they're today. I've read this news over three to four weeks back.
