Real Madrid prepared seven contracts to negotiate with Kylian Mbappe as they aimed to sign the France forward before the transfer deadline, but the Spanish giants are optimistic the 22-year-old will choose to join them from Paris St-Germain in 2022. In this way, it seems that Real did better because they will bring a very good player for free, while PSG will not get anything. I don’t understand PSG’s strategy here.

PSG's strategy is simple to understand actually. They are aiming to make use of Mbappe as much as possible in his last season there. They have brought Messi to the team and they want Neymar-Messi-Mbappe trio to play in the Champions League. Their main goal is to win this title in this season. If they are successful on it, then it will be worth it for sure. Otherwise, they might regret it but still I don't think that they really care about his going for free. PSG are one of the richest clubs and that's why they don't care about the money.
In my opinion, PSG desire to win the champions league makes them rule out any losses that may occur next season, one of which is to keep mbappe this season, even though they know that they are likely to suffer a considerable loss because mbappe will leave with the status of free transfer, but even so, there is still a chance for PSG to persuade mbappe to want to extend his contract with PSG and that could happen if PSG can win many titles by implementing the MNM trio this season.
