It is really sad to see Barcelona in such a bad condition now. They were not even able to qualify for the next stage of the Champions League. Normally, they should have defeated Benfica in both games and ended the group stage at the 2nd place. I don't say "1st place" because Bayern Munich would still be more powerful than them. They are worse without Messi but Messi also won't be playing football forever in the end. I'm hopeful about Xavi's new system to make the team much better in time.
Barcelona are going to take years to recover from the debacle they find themselves in. Will they win La Liga within the next 4-5 years - I think they will not be able to. They currently sit in 8th position in La Liga with just 23 points but Real Madrid top the table with 39 points.
They have just been knocked out of the Champions League at the group stage for the first time in over 20 years and it is clear on current form they do not deserve to finish in the top 4 therefore the only way they can definitely find themselves in the Champions League next season is by winning the Europa League this season and that will not be easy either.
@JollyGood thanks for reviving this thread, and I’m excited for
Manchester United winning the champions league a wild fantasy but yea hoping they do the unbelievable. Furthermore
Liverpool who won all their group games are being hyped to win it, and while they’re good I feel this hype will make them over confident and that may effect their game, but I could be wrong too just my personal opinion.
Thank you. I know my English Premier League EPL thread is going strong whether I post there or not because it has a lot of interest but this one was left behind. Hopefully I will update it tomorrow when the knockout stages draw is made.
As for Liverpool, yes they did great by winning all 6 group games but Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are also there. It is a strong performance and show of strength by them all to be there and send a warning to the other teams.
