There is a slight difference between real madrid who lost ronaldo and also barcelona which messi left at this time, when ronaldo left madrid, at that time madrid condition was also a bit limp but fortunately they still have benzema who can replace ronaldo position well, while barcelona is quite long relying on messi, unable to find a suitable replacement when messi moved to PSG, and even fati and depay who are expected to be the next messi in barcelona have not been able to show their best game at the moment, besides that the club financial condition is currently in trouble, adding to the condition Barcelona is getting worse, and it's clear that Barcelona's current condition is worse than when Madrid lost Ronaldo in 2018.
Benzema didn't replace Ronaldo all that very well, and nobody in the world could ever be the "next Messi" neither, these are two players that nobody could ever replace because between them they have like 12 or something Ballon D'or awards and that's more than any other two people combined. The real difference was that Real had a better 11 than what Barca had, they both managed to not replace their missing superstars but at least Real managed to put up a better 11 than what Barcelona could offered.

We also have the fact that Barcelona is doing horribly on finances as well, they have so much debt that paying it would take years for them alone and then they need to also get more players and pay salaries and so forth. All in all Real finished it with a lot better result when Ronaldo left, but when Messi left Barcelona still wasn't ready for this period.

You correctly credited Carlo Ancelotti with the resurgence of Real Madrid. It would be very difficult for anybody to ignore the impact returning hero manager Carlo Ancelotti has had on the team this season. Let us not forget he just arrived at the beginning of the season from Everton and has had an emphatic impact on the whole squad.

He has regularly left Eden Hazard and Gareth Bale on the substitutes bench, not used them at all on many occasions yet Real Madrid are dominating La Liga and topped their Champions League group.

Real Madrid have somehow managed to find form in La Liga and moved to the knockout stages of the Champions League whereas for example Barcelona have disintegrated in La Liga sitting in 8th position and 18 points behind leaders and favourites Real Madrid. Barcelona have been knocked out of the Champions League at the group for the first time in over 20 years, now they have to play in the Europa League but Real Madrid have turned themselves in to a footballing force this season.

Over two matches between PSG and Real Madrid, I think Real Madrid will win and go on to get to the semi-finals at the least. If that happens then PSG manager Pochettino could be sacked before the end of the season and a potential move to Manchester United could be on the cards for the beginning of next season.

PSG are going to have one of the toughest matchups and I don't have any doubt about it. People shouldn't undervalue Real Madrid in this matchup. If they look at Real Madrid's current condition closely, they can see that they are as good as PSG now. Maybe Real Madrid's dominance level in the La Liga is not bigger than PSG's in the Ligue 1. But the reason why is that La Liga is a more quality league.

@JollyGood you’re absolutely correct as Real Madrid are indeed back, and lots of credit goes to Carlo their head coach who successfully transformed them. Furthermore Real Madrid are going to facing an old enemy Messi, and that could be what’s stopping them from a victory hence I predict a goals fest when these two teams meet.

I really appreciate Real Madrid's current performance even though they don't have Cristiano Ronaldo anymore. It has been around three and a half seasons since he left Real Madrid but they are still doing a great job. They are even much better in this season. We haven't seen the same from Barcelona after Messi's leaving for example. And in their tough draw against PSG, I've no doubt that they will give their best.

Real Madrid players are very good in this UEFA champion league 2021/2022 season. Despite the strong team real Madrid has met in their group to make them unbeatable in this season. PSG cannot stop real Madrid in this season because real Madrid has what it takes to win all their match to qualify for semi-final.

After the draws have been completed, my favourite teams to advance to the quarter final round are like this:

PSG - Real Madrid
Sporting - Manchester City
Inter - Liverpool
Salzburg - Bayern Munich
Chelsea - Lille
Villarreal - Juventus
Atletico Madrid - Manchester United
Benfica - Ajax

And I'm already pretty sure that majority of the people who have made their predictions think the same as me. And people who are thinking differently are favouring Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid most probably. I accept that they are both tough draws. But I don't see a big chance for Real Madrid to eliminate PSG. This can be PSG's biggest opportunity to win the CL title. And they will push until the end surely. And I see Manchester United as one step ahead of Atletico. Because Atletico seem a little more inconsistent than them. And I see Manchester United as a more capable team in offense.

Personally, I think that at the moment Real is a more complete and better team than PSG.
The match between PSG and Manchester City showed very well what PSG is missing to finally win the Champions League.
PSG has three walkers in the team, Messi, Mbappe and Neymar who contribute little to the defense and in matches against top teams such as Real or Manchester City this is a very serious shortcoming.
With the new coach, Manchester United is a better and more organized club, but the match between Manchester United and Atletico will still be very uncertain.
I mostly agree with other predictions, but every season in the Champions League there are unexpected results and surprises, so there will certainly be surprises this season as well.

Among these matchups, the one that I will especially be waiting for is PSG - Real Madrid. These teams are both having a solid season in the Champions League and in their domestic leagues. My prediction for this matchup is like this:

In the first leg of this draw, PSG would destroy Real Madrid using the home-team advantage by one or two goals. In the second leg, maybe Real Madrid would win by one goal but I think we would see a tie at the end of the game. And this would determine PSG as the advancing team.

Even I see PSG have a great chance to win in Legs 1 and 2, because I see even though Real Madrid are now starting to improve, but their defense still has some weaknesses and PSG who have a pretty dangerous front line will easily destroy the madrid defense, the stability that Madrid has in The league, of course, cannot be a reference if they can beat PSG easily in the first leg, because compared to the league competition, the Champions League has a different atmosphere in my opinion and it will be very difficult to beat a team in the champions league especially PSG, if Madrid still has weakness in several positions.

The KO stage fixtures were redrawn.  Hilarious...  UEFA is depriving the fans of Messi vs Ronaldo and see who’s really the best.  Lol.

Anyway, here are the results of the redraw.  They actually gave Man United a favor.  Atletico Madrid should be an easier match up imho.  And the other English clubs drew soft opposition too.  Cheesy

It is really sad to see Barcelona in such a bad condition now. They were not even able to qualify for the next stage of the Champions League. Normally, they should have defeated Benfica in both games and ended the group stage at the 2nd place. I don't say "1st place" because Bayern Munich would still be more powerful than them. They are worse without Messi but Messi also won't be playing football forever in the end. I'm hopeful about Xavi's new system to make the team much better in time.
Barcelona are going to take years to recover from the debacle they find themselves in. Will they win La Liga within the next 4-5 years - I think they will not be able to. They currently sit in 8th position in La Liga with just 23 points but Real Madrid top the table with 39 points.

They have just been knocked out of the Champions League at the group stage for the first time in over 20 years and it is clear on current form they do not deserve to finish in the top 4 therefore the only way they can definitely find themselves in the Champions League next season is by winning the Europa League this season and that will not be easy either.

@JollyGood thanks for reviving this thread, and I’m excited for Manchester United winning the champions league a wild fantasy but yea hoping they do the unbelievable. Furthermore Liverpool who won all their group games are being hyped to win it, and while they’re good I feel this hype will make them over confident and that may effect their game, but I could be wrong too just my personal opinion.
Thank you. I know my English Premier League EPL thread is going strong whether I post there or not because it has a lot of interest but this one was left behind. Hopefully I will update it tomorrow when the knockout stages draw is made.

As for Liverpool, yes they did great by winning all 6 group games but Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are also there. It is a strong performance and show of strength by them all to be there and send a warning to the other teams.

Considering the performances in the group stage, my favourite clubs to win the title are Liverpool, Manchester City, PSG, Bayern Munich and Chelsea now. I added Chelsea too because they are the last champions. And their general form this season has been really good also. But this time, one of the first four teams that I said is closer to winning the title I think.

I have not been posting as much as usual and have not updated this thread for some time but I will post back here when the draw for the Champions League last 16 teams is made on Monday 13th December.

Current holders Chelsea along with Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool have all made it past the group stages so that is good news for the English teams as it is for the Premier League on the world stage  Grin
All clubs from England made it to the round of 16, 3 of them became Grub champions, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, only Chelsea were raner-ups, because last night they played in a draw, only one more game left because of the game between atlanta and sevilla postponed, we can only wait for which team will meet, I hope my favorite team, Liferpol, will meet with Inter Milan..

Here are the Champions League results from the games that took place on the 19th and 20th October 2021. I think Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea look formidable in Europe but Manchester United look in trouble.

That man Ronaldo did it again scoring the winning goal with just minutes to spare to come back from 0-2 down to win the game 3-2 but Manchester United will face stronger teams and they look as though they will struggle against them.
