For the games tomorrow I think the scores will be:

Benfica 1-1 Liverpool
Manchester City 2-1 Atletico Madrid

Liverpool will find it tough going to Portugal to face Benfica. I think this game will end in a draw.

You would expect Manchester City to beat Atletico but what are the chances Atletico would knock Manchester United out first and then knock Manchester City out in the next round?

There problem for many big clubs in European competitions is that there are only so many teams that can get to a final (two teams), or semi-final (four teams), or quarter-final (eight teams) therefore some will ultimately fail to progress. This is the European competition all the clubs want to participate in and try to win. Even Guardiola with all the money backed by the UAE state has not won the Champions League.

When you have two big clubs, financially powerful and dominant in their leagues such as when Real Madrid played PSG in round 2 of the competition - one of them has to get knocked out - Real beat PSG over two legs. Barcelona were eliminated at the group stage and Manchester United was knocked out by a much smaller club in Atletico, things like that have to happen but it is a shock to see giants fall early in the competition.

I do not see Ronaldo playing for Manchester United next season unless they finish 4th in the Premier League because he will want Champions League football, that is simple, anything less than that would be (as you said) embarrassing. Messi will be there at PSG for another season at least and he is almost guaranteed Champions League next season with PSG,

Here are the next set of games taking place in the Champions League - they are the quarter-final fixtures:

Seeing big teams like Manchester United and PSG exit from the champions league is something very embarrassing, because the two world bests are in those teams,Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the two figures that found themselves in those teams, and Ronaldo  playing Europa league is something  I see as embarassing to his personality, and the Europa spot is not yet guaranteed, because their is a fierce war in England between Arsenal,Tottenham,And Manchester United for the European spot.

The games taking place this evening are:

Juventus vs Villarreal
Lille vs Chelsea
I think Juventus and Chelsea are the two favorites to qualify for the quarter-finals this season despite the possibility that the opposing team also has a chance.

Villarreal have been inconsistent in the league but they have the power to attack and create good goal chances so Juventus should be aware of that possibility. But as Juventus have more experience in the Champions League, Villareal may find it difficult to beat them. Chelsea will definitely qualify after a 2 goal lead in the first leg, I have no doubts about them even if this match is at home to Lille.

@ShowOff Juventus who was yet another favourite gets eliminated, and I yet can't believe it that Villarreal have been able to easily defeat them. Also Chelsea survived in their match against Lille to advance, and it seems that they’ll now be one of the favourites to win it.

RESULTS:

Ajax 0-1 Benfica
Manchester United 0-1 Atletico Madrid

Benfica (3-2 aggregate) and Atletico Madrid (2-1 aggregate) qualify for the quarter-finals.

I expected Manchester United to win especially after the way they beat Tottenham with Ronaldo playing exceptionally well but the defeat means they will probably not finish in the top 4 in the Premier League this season so will be playing Europa League football next season.

The games taking place this evening are:

Juventus vs Villarreal
Lille vs Chelsea

Fun degen bet for Ronaldo anytime goal scorer at 2.85 vs Atletico Madrid.  And I've just learned that Ronaldo has scored more than any player at the top 4 in La Liga right now.  Grin  Igehhh gave me the info.  I think he's one of the bunch guys who def knows what he's talking about when it comes to football and how to approach these matches from a betting perspective.

I think the match could end in something like 0 - 0 tho.

Second leg matches played on 8th March 2022:

Bayern Munich 7-1 Red Bull Salzburg

Liverpool 0-1 Inter Milan

Manchester City 0-0 Sporting Lisbon

Real Madrid 3-1 Paris Saint-Germain

Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid are through to the quarter-finals - congratulations to them.

Liverpool lost at home 1-0 but won at Inter 0-2 so qualify. Manchester City drew 0-0 with Sporting Lisbon but won the first game 0-5.

Real Madrid thrashed PSG 3-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Benzema and it is Real that qualify for the quarter-finals even though they lost the first game 1-0 in Paris therefore PSG with all their stars including Messi, Mbappe and Pochettino are out.

^  I hit Real Madrid team total over 1.5 goals but lost Liverpool -1 which sucks.  And between those two bets, I was more confident in the Liverpool bet than the Real Madrid one.  I mean check Liverpool's home form in all competitions.  The probability of them losing the match is pretty much low.  I really thought I would at least get my money back.  But no.  Lol.

Next week's matches seem tougher to call except Ajax vs Benfica imho.  Who you guys got?

^  PSG is up by one goal at home vs Real Madrid.  Second leg should be a tough one for PSG as they're playing at Real's home turf.  Obv they'll def try getting at least two in and get to the next round.  So I think playing thr goals market could be good here.  Real Madrid team total over 1.5 goals at 1.97?  What do you guys think?  Grin

Anyway, made a small bet on Liverpool -1 at 1.91.  Pretty safe bet with somewhat value considering Liverpool's home from has been very good overall.

Definitely it will be a tough one for PSG to play Madrid at home, they have a goal up but will they be able to defend it? Looking at the fact that messi exits the champions league at this stage will ruin his reputation and thats why i think PSG have the edge to qualify over real Madrid
I predict the game to be a draw on aggregate because Madrid is at home.

Soon two big and decisive matches will begin, so far only liverpool which in my opinion has a big enough chance to qualify for the next round because they get a 0-2 advantage in the first leg, while for bayern munchen it seems their have to work quite hard today to secure one of the tickets for the next round, although salzburg is not the favorite team today but we must not ignore the surprise factor that may and often occurs in the champions league so far.

@poldanmig Bayern Munich completely destroyed Salzburg, and i was thrilled by the way they were playing and once again it was Lewandowski who was leading right from the front. Furthermore Liverpool has qualified despite losing the game, and I can’t wait for Bayern to come against Liverpool or City, because it’ll be one of the most epic fixture of this season if it were to happen.

Of the 8 teams you listed to qualify for the next round, I agree with 7 of your opinions.

You think PSG will qualify, even a draw in Spain will achieve that but I think Real Madrid will beat PSG on the night and go through to the next round Grin

Bayern Munich
Manchester City
Ajax Amsterdam
Chelsea
Manchester United
Juventus
Liverpool
Paris Saint-Germain

This is the club that will qualify from the group stage and advance to the next stage of the competition in the UEFA Champions League in my opinion.

I would lean towards 75/25% in favour of Manchester United.

I think Atletico will play well enough to trouble Manchester United over the course of two games (home and away) I think Manchester United will qualify for the next round. Atletico is not playing as it did a couple of seasons ago, neither is Manchester United but if a squad could be said to be bigger with better players it would be Manchester United.

Here are the next set of games taking place in the knockout stages of the Champions League on 22nd February 2022:

Chelsea vs Lille
Villarreal vs Juventus

It is another great season for English Premier League clubs because 4 have reach the knockout stages of the competition.

- definitely manchester united took their luck, despite them playing well they will play against the athletic that is very bad this season, i think it will be an easy victory for real madrid

- juventus will also have difficulties playing against villareal

- chelsea managed to find a good opponent, they will surely win

You think it will be an easy win for Atletico Madrid against Manchester United? Seriously? Are we watching the same Atletico this season? Cheesy

A couple of years ago I would have probably agreed with you, but Atletico is far from their best shape possible right now. Their defense is trash this season. I think that is a 50:50 game. Manchester out of shape, Atletico out of shape, might probably boil down to Ronaldo's performance.

I don't know, I think that Atletico still has some real superstars in their team. You might be right though on paper, but as you mentioned yourself we have seen all too often this season that Manchester isn't quite a goal scoring machine this year. They have had trouble over and over again against teams of the lower half of the table even in home games. They have never really been dominant this season. I think this is still going to be a very close one even in the Old Trafford.

The draw was a strange result because Manchester United dominated possession but all the tactical play was with Atletico.

Atletico should have won the game even with such small possession of the ball and they looked dangerous when they went forward but Elanga came on as a substitute and managed to score, he repaid the faith the interim manager has in him.

Manchester United had to wait 80+ minutes before having their first shot on target and that is a worry. The return game will be one to watch because Old Trafford will be pushing their team to beat Atletico and qualify for the next round.

@JollyGood Manchester United were lucky to escape with a draw, and I felt that Atletico could have scored 2 more goals to take a commanding lead, and only time will answer if they’ll regret not taking their chances. Lastly the entire Manchester United team needs to figure why they play well only for 45 mins, because there’s so potential in those player’s but currently it’s not being utilised well.
