Years later, detractors would use one of the original GAW’s biggest scrapes to discredit the second GAW, though it was a textbook example of why major providers avoided rural services. GAW was offered a $40,000 grant to serve Ashfield, Massachusetts, but the city went years without access before Garza gave up in 2012, unable to find a tower location. He never completed the job.

Why am I not surprised, he pocketed the cash. Probably used it for the tummy tuck and breast implants for the wifey

Not to stand behind mr. garza and crew, but the true fact is:

“They never received a dollar from the ($40,000) grant they were awarded from the Mass. Broadband Institute.”

Maybe it's because he nor his business were EVER commercially licensed by the FCC as a wireless broadband provider and the money wouldn't have been enough to purchase or lease a license - let alone rack and tower space on any hill.

Anyone can be a grant writer and even on occasion get a grant awarded to them, but if they don't have all their ducks in a row, which is very common for Garza, their project is doomed before it even begins.

Scott-

Just to chime in - a lot of that is flexible. If GAW was just handling the hardware, right-of-way, and peering contracts, AND the broadcast license is provided to the municipality, it's a very different case than if a private operator does it all. Demarcation points and who-owns-what are half the fun of telecom Smiley

(that fun is sarcastic, btw)
It looks like (he) they were trying to claim/do it all...

Oh I agree with all of that, I certainly don't purport to know any or all of the true facts, and yes I know about grants as well.

My point was just level-headed thinking. I saw someone accuse someone else of stealing 40k. I knew it not to be true. I pointed out said fact.

BTW, i'm not on his side, i'm on yours/ours. Maybe it's because my father was a judge IRL.

Thanks to Ms. Boring of http://boringbitcoinreport.com and the Digital Chamber for compiling it all.

Scott-

Good read. I am not a marketing guru, but I sincerely think Ms. Boring would increase her readership by a factor of ~1,000,000 if she posted her pic on the front of the blog....

This just in:

two member's verifies

I guess BitJane has the day off.

she quit doing the edits a while ago. She made a thread about that.

Still, doesnt stop her trying to stamp her authority as a grammer nazi - she even hates when peoplr use that term.  Maybe she believes the nazis were good guys and the holocaust didn't happen.  Otherwise who fucking cares, the nazis lost, they are bad guys they deserve any shit their way, and WE the winners of the wars can use that term however the fuck we like.

She needs to eat a big bag of cement and harden the fuck up, her baby boomer attitude can fuck off too. Your time is over.  Generation X is where its at - the last generation before generation Y get some power and fuck it all up for everyone.

I think you are over generalizing an entire generation. But who am I? Just one of the the oldest Gen Y persons here that made Josh back down from a public debate he himself called with me  Roll Eyes.

Just with cryptos, infighting between generations does nothing productive (unless its calling out obvious scammers).

I was highly drunk when I wrote this and prone to exaggeration, so the generation comment was the only thing I exaggerated. Was Australia day yesterday mate and I'm hungover as

Generation X is where its at - the last generation before generation Y get some power and fuck it all up for everyone.

And then it's Z - zombie apocalypse?

You know things are truly screwed up if even Putin is pulling out:

I have never even heard of it and regardless of if you think most of their stuff is secular they are named The CHRISTIAN Science Monitor.
You're being a hypocrite now for not seeing before commenting.

CSM has been easily available since Google Reader days with their RSS feeds. Then, Google Currents and now Google Play Newstand.

Just read their articles and try to find anything that drips with conservative religious bias.  I find them to be the polar opposite of the Washington Post, in fact which does drip ...

CSM also surprises me with its tech news -- and it's not just dipping toes.

Oh please do explain to me some more how I'm being a hypocrite for "not seeing before commenting", whatever the hell that even means. I'm all ears and waiting with bated breath. And again, they get no respect and no trust from me as long as CHRISTIAN is in their name. I can go elsewhere to get my news and never have to read another single article from them and never be any less informed. Yes my atheism is that strong.

Dude it's a well known publication with a good history. You're an idiot.

No you're an assuming fucking prick. It most certainly is NOT very well known and that's coming from a multi-degreed engineer and math teacher.
