have you thought about useing a blower type fan like a laptop uses

or something along these lines then you woulddnt need a push pull config and you would get better air flow across the heat sink if you put a something over the top of the heatsink like another piece of metal and directed the air just right into the fins of the sink ?

There's not enough space between the fins to make that good enough.

This is an old picture I posted.
it's a lot better in fact (front/back walls + airduct directing the airflow down on the heatsink)

yes, I noticed that on some of them, the pcb under the chip was darker.... looks like they were hot enough...

And when I removed the stock heatcink, the screws were pretty easy to removed.

As I still need to dril/thread the new heatsink, I cleaned the chip, applied fresh thermal paste and secured the green heatsink back in place

yea the heat on them will be greatly reducted with a correct heat sink and the tunneling idea

nice size heat sink. what volt/freq are you running them at to need such a heatsink?

Wonder how the heat dissipation will be for the middle one. are they lotto machines or part of a pool?

I run 6@300Mhs, maybe 310.

I don,t remember vcore I prob posted it a few pages ago :p

They're part of a pool

I built a tunnel like cooling system/holder, so this heatsink has the fins oriented correctly

I finally received my heat sink !

Now I just have to drill/thread both of them.

I wanted to use thermal pads but the chip is not large enough and the heatsink slides off...

Curmudgeonly hardware guy
Yeah, there's not even implied support for these sticks on Windows 10, because to test it I'd have to have an internet-connected Windows 10 machine and that's something I have zero interest in setting up. I'm sure that alienates some of the customer base, but to be honest I don't really care.

Also, if you're getting that reset error and it's not submitting shares and the white light isn't flashing, something is pobably wrong. Check the voltages to make sure everything's peachy. If the 0.9V is reading more like 1.0V something's wrong. If VCore is reading outside the range of 0.55-0.80V something's wrong. If Reset is reading outside 1.5-1.8V something's wrong.

If something's wrong, contact me for warranty info. But if you contact me for warranty info, I want to know everything you've checked so far. I want to know if the heatsink gets hot while it's running, I want to know what the frequency and voltage settings you've used are, I want to know if you're using cgminer stock or cgminer-gekko or BFG, I want to know what the voltage measurements are, and I want to know how cgminer and the stick's LED behave when it's plugged in and when cgminer tries to initialize and when it tries to mine.

Just got mine in the post, thanks Sidehack!

Just in case anyone else gets this issue..

I wanted to try my sticks in Windows before I set up my Pi at a later date. I installed Zadig and the special cgminer (in 1st post of this thread) but I had to install a zlib1.dll into system32 before cgminer would run. Secondly I was getting error "libusb_sucess" in the cgminer, I had to go to (Win10) control panel>hardware and sound>power options>change plan settings>change advanced power settings>usb settings>usb selective suspend setting>disabled.

THANKS!  Grin

Try removing and reinstalling the stick with cgminer running.  I know with Windows 10 mine get stubborn and sometimes this helps.

As mentioned if you've tried zadiag AND used the option to show all devices and it's still not there odds are that you've got an issue with your machine.

Reboot, try another USB port, etc

Before doing anything when you first plug it in, windows should notify you that its installing drivers for a new device.  Let it complete before running zadiag.

You can always check your windows hardware list to see if it shows up anywhere under the USB section too.

on zadig you may have to go to options -> show all devices and it should be in the drop down

My windows computer won't recognize the gekkos. Can somebody post a link to where I can download the drivers? Trying to use zadig, but it can't find the device. When I tell it to list all devices, the gekkos don't show up. Thanks in advance.

No other drivers than Zadig.

-  you should have new HW detected when you plug them
- if not there's something wrong just right there
- if they are, install zadig for the appropriate USB component
- then run the gekko version of cgminer (of bfminer 5.4.*)

I'm running on a linux server (ubuntu 15.10) that is an old repurposed desktop with a 7-port superpbag hub using y-cables to three sticks.

Each stick is set to about .77 and I see this error with freqs from 250-350 (i don't touch the voltage in between).

The original compac stick has always run on this hub and it never has a problem.

Stick 2121 never initializes in cgminer anymore - the light goes white then green and then stays there.  Tried dropping it into a windows machine and no difference.  If i take my original stick (268) and toss it onto that same windows box - works great.Stick 2125 generally plays nice but HAS gone off into the weeds once or twice.
Stick 268 has never had a problem on any machine / setting.

I have taken 2121 and put it directly into another USB port on the server and jacked the freq WAY down - nothing.  I've tossed it onto a windows machine - zadiag and all.  Cgminer never can detect it.

such a weird issue.

i had linux close to perfect for more then 4 months now the one stick.  When I mail it maybe sidehack can find out issue.
some eye candy  here is a block won  by me .  yeah it is an alt coin yeah it is worth about 25 usd a block but still it is fun.

Congrats on the block Phil! i've been mining there too.

Does it initialize but the white light never once flashes? If so, it's a bad connection between the ASIC and PCB.

It's funny because for a short while it hashed out of the box.  Then I started running into this.  But yes at the moment it does initialize (light up) but then never a single flash.

I need to do further testing - I got the same error no matter which port on the hub I used, nor a usb port on the server.

More testing to come.  I'm going to knock the voltage and frequency way back and see if things play nicer.

Second stick from this batch is acting up now.

[2016-02-21 13:09:16.037] COMPAC 2: No valid hashes for over 10 secs, attempting to reset
 [2016-02-21 13:09:16.217] COMPAC 2 attempted reset got err:(0) LIBUSB_SUCCESS

BUT - again i haven't had the time to rule out the superpbag so I'm not making any conclusions.  I just need time to test.

Buddy picked up three of these I believe and he's having similar issues with two of them.  He's doing similar testing (might be issues with the superpbag).

Maybe that particular Superbpag. I have three sticks on 325 and three sticks on 275 on S-pag and they are all stable for 32 days and counting.

I'd like to say so - but mine is the same issue (another superpbag) - but we purchased them far far apart.
