This may seem trivial to those who already rank high in the forums. but it really means a lot to beginners. Gaining Some Merits actually can revive dormant Motivation. But still I also realize that just motivation is not enough. but also must be accompanied by an increase in insight. with more diligent reading and so on.
Other beginners must also feel this way, right? I doubt if only I feel this pleasure.

Earning merit in the forum is actually what drives a lot of the members here to work hard because it is the only way for someone to be recognized in the community, and almost every member wants to be recognized. I think many people would feel at ease and refrain from contributing to the forums if there was no reward for someone's work, similar to merit.so the feeling of earning merits in here makes us feels how important we are in the forum especially we in low ranks.

Getting merits is a kind of motivation in this forum, almost everyone below 1000 merits feels some kind of joy when their merit count increases.
Since 1000 merits is what you need to become a legendary member and the legendary rank is the highest rank in the forum. When some people hits that 1000, they will become less concerned about merits and merits will stop flowing to them. Unless for some exceptional posters.
Then there are some who are competing to be known as people with the highest merits in the forum. These people even after 5k merits are still banging the more.

Op, be calm everything will fall in place for you only if you will remain consistent, abide by the rules and produce quality.

LOL.  I created a thread about that some years ago.  There was some jackass who'd routinely create threads with huge, unnecessary images and it was driving me crazy--and worse yet, other members would quote the damn images in their own posts.  There oughta be a rule, man.  There oughta be a rule....
When a user over use image in his or her post is not good but minimizing the use of image might give some beauty in the posts. But one thing I discovered from those user s that, they are inserting image to their threads unknown to them that using image in all there post is bad. All what they know is using image is to put more beatification to the post.
You're probably right for most members who've earned a ton of merits and have ranked up to Legendary.  Just speaking for myself, I was curious as to how many merits I'd earn when the system started in 2018, because I thought I was making some decent posts.  After a while, it got so that I didn't need the validation that receiving merits gives and at this point I'm much more concerned with giving out merits than I am with earning them.  In fact, I've often asked people not to merit my posts, but to give merits to someone who can use them to rank up.
Smile, just as if you speak my mind. Since merit became the motivator in the forum, everyone is struggling to be merited. And those images those users insert in their post is to attract more merit but irony is the issue in many time. Merits is still good to maintain the 120 days  Grin.

yes, it is very true that getting a reward will certainly make someone more confident and also of course it will make us happy and fundamentally we will continue to improve the quality of discussions and it is true that discussions will be better with lots of broad insights, and to add broad insight can diligently read and find good information.
because if we discuss with broad insight it will certainly make us enjoy the discussion more.

As a newbie I developed goosebumps on my skin the day I got my first merit. It was like a heaven's goal for me. I was super excited and motivated to do more. My advice to newbies here is never to give up in sorting and providing good contents here. Indeed, Content they say is King.

yes, I admit that sometimes when we get some merit, it is true that it will add positive motivation for us and can trigger us to be more active in the forum. but keep in mind also for beginners in particular that don't get used to only being motivated if we get some merit.
because if we are only motivated when we get a merit then it is possible that if we haven't gotten the next merit or haven't even gotten a merit at all then we will easily give up and stop contributing to the forum.
it's better to focus on continuing to learn and grow from day to day, the more knowledge we read, the better the discussion or comments we present in the forum.

Receiving a merit is a proof of your hard work- you see that people appreciate and acknowledged that you indeed contributed to the forum. It also gives you the feeling of confidence where your efforts are validated due to your contribution. I agree- receiving merits is one of those feelings of satisfaction and hunger where you want to contribute and create more threads for people to appreciate.

I applaud your purpose in this forum- you create posts in order to contribute to the betterment of this forum. While others are too busy to rank-up as they create spam threads, your focus and goal is toward creating a healthy environment for everyone to learn and accept.

Keep up the good work, OP. While you may be only scratching the surface, you are definitely doing it right and going on the right direction.

I guess we've been all thru that scenario where we are happy whenever we got a reward for posting high quality posts, but over time, that level of excitement will decrease overtime until you will be reaching to a point where you seeing getting merited will just be a normal thing to you. I'm pretty sure those people here who have many merits right now are the ones who are experiencing that. Am I right? Smiley

Getting merit is like receiving appreciation from someone or even the community that your post helped someone or is educating. When you get such appreciation it serves as a motivation to put in your best and do even better. I remember the fulfillment I had when I got my first set of merits in the forum. It gave me confidence that my input is appreciated. But this mindset can also be deceptive because it is not every time you might get merit from doing a good job. Expecting merit always is not bad but it could be discouraging when you don't get it when you expected it. There are some posts I thought will fetch some merits but it turned out the opposite and I was a little bit discouraged.

To me, the best approach is to keep doing your best in the forum. Keep reading, learning, and sharing quality thoughts. Let learning and not merit be your driving force and motivator, if merit comes that's okay but merit shouldn't be the main focus for contributing to the forum.  But, naturally, merit will always come when you are valuable to the community.

Getting merits in the forum is one of the best feeling wherein we can say our hard work and efforts from the start are now paying off. That’s when our post turns into high quality and become highly beneficial especially for the newbies. So it’s not just for beginners actually but for me, even you’re top on the rank will still be motivated by it. And with continuous motivation to widen your knowledge and develop your skills in the forum, that will make you a trustworthy and valuable member in the forum.

Not only for beginners but even for higher rank members, getting merits still create a positive feeling and will always boost motivation and self-confidence. That’s one way you’ll feel your self worth based on how others acknowledge your post. But this is not enough so you can live longer in the forum. Stay learning in the forum by doing continuous research especially on topics that you find it hard understanding it. And just enjoy every minute of it so you will never feel the pressures that most newbies have experienced.

I think receiving Merit is exciting for newbies, obviously it’s fun to rank up your account which is only possible with increased Activity & the well known Merit totals for each rank. I don’t like giving advice but as a Newbie it’s important not to beg for Merit or make it obvious you are fishing for it. Just browse around the various areas of the forum, participate in convos of topics you enjoy & the Merit will flow in.

Even on high ranks we still get a joyful feeling when we received merits. It does means that we are beinf helpful or someone must have like the response or topic that being shared. Receiving merits are one of the best feeling when you are here in forum and I understand what you means since you have a goal to rank by means of merits. It will eventually come anyway, just be motivated always and do your best to contribute in this forum.

That's right, even though I'm at the top rank, I'm still happy when I get more merit. Maybe the feel will be differents with members who are trying to reach the rank of Junior member to Legendary. However, when there is additional merit i get from the posts I made, i'm still happy with that. So, basically, for some member, merit is more than just to rank up. But to show to other member who they are. Well, the character will be different for those who have merit, the most important thing is that we can continue to learn to contribute, that is the main goal in this forum.
It’s always a great feeling receiving some merits especially if it’s given from reputable members in the forum. It will certainly uplift yourself and will develop more motivation to even improve what you currently have. However, we should not feel pressures when we rarely receive it as it does not mean that our post are not good and quality enough. As long as you’re align with the rules and you’re giving the best what you genuinely have, then you’ll always be a reliable and good contributor to the forum.

Who doesn't like a reward ?
The reward of merit might not be as valuable to legendary members but it surely is worthy to the rest of the ranks.
Whenever someone does a action, the reward gives them adrenaline to repeat the action with stronger force.
So the reward obviously gives us motivation to work harder and I think that's why the merit system was put into place.

Everyone who reached high ranks started the same way, so no need to say that high ranks do not understand how beginners feel. For some of us, the first ranks were very difficult, the Full Member was especially difficult for me, at that time every merit was like a holiday.

But you should not think that it will always be so difficult, since subsequent ranks were achieved easier, I don’t mean faster, although I don’t remember by time periods, but the point is that everything happens easier in the future. When you stop focusing on it, the result comes easier. It is always pleasant to receive merits, I don’t think this will change, but for this you need to go through the first difficult steps in order to move more confidently.

Getting merits as a newbie especially after taking so much time to.settle into the forum can really a big boost and motivation to newbies. When newbies get merited for a post or comment, it really is a big mental boost to validate how they think. As a newbie before, I can relate to the feeling of getting merited for a contribution, it has a special encouraging kind of feeling. I have never been validated for a comment or in a discussion before for what I have said, the forum is the first place that I have experienced that. Getting merits for a comment has greatly increased and improved my confidence.

I doubt if only I feel this pleasure.

You're not alone in this path my dear and even uptill date, I still feel very happy when I get merits not just to rank up but it also makes me feel I'm truly making positive  contributions  to the forum  and the more the merits are on a thread, the more drives to wanting to increase post quality  becomes also more.

I can relate with the joy that comes with earning merits as a newbie especially  when you're not really good with writings, and so far, the forum has thought me so much including the value of grace and consistency.

You should also know that writing quality  post is truly a virtue and with quality  post, one can visit your profile anytime and find some meaningful post to merit but cases where you don't have any meaning post or quality post, then you'll  miss that merit that day because there are some random profile reviews done by higher rank members and staff.

I started going through your post history to see if I coiuld give you some merits. I gave you 5, but I stopped looking when I saw that enormous image that you posted.
Thank you sir for taking your valuable time to view my post history.

about the picture you mean. I've tried to fix it by resizing it to make it more pleasing to the eye. but I don't know if it's getting better or not.

Regarding the images you post making an effort to resize them to increase their visual appeal is a fine undertaking, but as aesthetic perception can vary between individuals, your willingness to accept feedback and make adjustments indicates a proactive approach to increasing your contribution. Maintain a positive attitude and continue to engage with the community. Remember, the more you participate, learn, and adapt, the more you will grow as a forum member.

Start slowly, every constructive correction will give you new knowledge about how to post better than before. Small mistakes can still be fixed, such as changing the size of the image so that it doesn't fill the screen. Corrections like this are very important for you to produce posts that are pleasing to the eye when you attach images to posts.
Of course, a smaller image size will make your post more elegant and better for you and whoever views it.
