I don't have a horse in this race  Roll Eyes, but I wouldn't worry about a last place finish on her first run. One can rarely if ever foresee a horse's future by her first race.

I advocate the Zeitgeist Movement & Venus Project.
This is probably one of those take the money and run scenarios.

See what I did there?

Very disappointing first start out. With her odds going off at 11:1 in a 14 horse race, she was far from the long shot in the race. The race was an easy race too with soft competition. When talking with the jockey after the race, he confirmed that she just wasn't that fast on the muddy track.

On the plus side: She was run clean - no drugs in her. JE2 is more familiar than I am, but most trainers juice their horses in the weeks/days before the race, and run their horses on Lasix. After this result, we have some leverage to go to the trainer and demand some extra help.

Looks like we will get another start in the next 3 weeks.

Horses that lose badly consistently "can" be hard to train. They lose their spirit to compete, because in their minds they have no chance at catching the other horses, so they begin not giving it their all when training or racing. We will sometimes allow horses to train with horses we know they can beat to build up their confidence. She will get a steady diet of that level of foes in training next week.

As it relates to adhesives, unfortunetly, horses are sold by the pound for their flesh from what I understand. I have never visited a facility, but I understand there are some not too far from the track. This is commonly called "selling to slaughter.” If it is decided that Satoshi is not a going concern, we would move her on to a new career (trail horse, barrel horse, etc.), but we will not sell her to slaughter. She is a much better racehorse than what she showed yesterday. We just need to make the right adjustments on a few things.

I have done some more analysis. Well... both trainer and jockey belong to half that makes top half possible...

Data for analysis were gathered after the race, so they contain todays results. It shows stats for trainers of all horses in the race and same stats for jockeys. I calculated earnings per start and percent of starts which end up in 1-3 place. In this ranking the trainer places at most at 36% (and 16% at least). Jockey ranks between 31% to 55%.

What is the payout if she is converted into adhesives?

Interesting idea...

Is it true that a horse that loses a few times is difficult to train to win?

Momma said there would be days like this.  Needless to say, this was not the result we were looking for in her first run. I can accept the result, but what was disappointing was her lack of effort. I had a long conversation with the trainer, and we will make some adjustments before her next race, primarily in the area of her pre-race medication. Not to make excuses for our young thoroughbred, but she caught a sloppy track for her first race. As I reviewed her pedigree stats, horses produced on her pedigree cross have run on muddy or sloppy tracks 8% of the time with 0% reaching the winner's circle. She is definitely not a "mudder", and will need a fast dry surface to truly evaluate her racing ability.  She will continue her training, and we will look to run her back in 2 or 3 weeks. I want to thank the bitcoins fans who joined us at the race track. We will have better days, and tonight produced a number of areas in which we must improve.
