I have been following the news from Venezuela, mostly from panampost.com lately. Clearly, at every road cross, they choose the wrong path, away from markets. It seems that the people there just don't understand, and still believes the lies coming from the dominators even after 15 years since Chavez took over. They are going down hard.
Did you grab up any swaps?
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-09-29/venezuela-5-3-billion-bond-default-anxiety-eases-andes-credit.html

Nothing like a little systemic risk to pad the portfolio.

The USA may get blamed for this, because of our ending QE.  Weird, but possible.
Being only slightly fiscally responsible makes the horribly irresponsible look that much worse, and they are at the tipping point.

edit: very interesting interview from Chris Powell about the gold market manipulations:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSaJeeDvZS8#t=166

hope nothing like that would manage to make it in bitcoinland. but as long as they got the money prints and hold the books.. Undecided

*looks at the winklevoss brothers*

That's an awesome quote.

On the other topic

The Winklevoss are key to bringing Bitcoin to the capital class, they are part of the new generation and a bridge to the old. They are investing capital (lots at risk) in producing Bitcoin infrastructure, wealth will always be distributed on a bell curve, however in Bitcoin it's the producing class that creates wealth. And they've proven to be very creative!

If they're good they'll hold on but their kids that's different tale yet to materialize, I'm sure things go well but it'll be a new game.

I am more than skeptical regarding their ETF. I really dont see the point. *if they ever launch.

Be careful with this, remember the Feds took down the mob by proving tax evasion, not actual crimes.

you also need to be careful in posting ridiculous amounts of bitcoin attributable to certain individuals.

My hypothetical example above was just that, a hypothetical example to outline how a future argument might be drawn in the public sphere. Not sure where there is a reaction there. I was replying to you in discussion and so used you as an example, that is common, there is nothing attributing there.

All I am trying to point out is that if the thesis of this thread come true, then the reality of the situation is developed world governments will be bankrupt with limited tax options and huge unfunded liabilities/promises to voters. The pressure to find funding mechanisms for past unfunded promises will be thundering.

It is important to anticipate this possibility if you are predicting bitcoin as future global money as a possibility.

So no money to bomb their enemies?

Dow -201.

that's not good.

Meh.  We're talking about a 6% slide (not even technically a correction) from the ATH.  I'd hope that isn't enough to cause much heartburn.  Of course, it is the spooky month of October.

that's alot of money.  US financial intermediaries should get mad:

Defying the dollar Russia & China agree currency swap worth over $20bn

http://rt.com/business/195556-russia-china-currency-swap/

Medvedev and Li signed over 40 other agreements at the meeting, including outlining plans to add another pipeline from Russia to China. Li is in Moscow for a three-day visit.

well, i guess if Europe doesn't want to use it, China will.
