It's true that bitcoin and other crypto's cost energy but do you know how many energy it cost to do a single search on a search engine or just use the internet at all?, internet uses a lot of energy and crypto's are a small? part of that.

Pretty shortsighted and disappointing to see a lack of imagination - like a legislator/regulator who finds the whole subject too complicated and just wants to shut it all down.

Sure, there are scams, but that's not enough to justify a complete ban on everything "crypto-currency related".  This means if I create some software that tracks assets - not even using a blockchain - just a regular old centralized database I can't advertise on Google because it's "related" to crypto.  A LOT of things are related to crypto, which have nothing to do with scammy ICO's.  Not allowed to advertise Bitcoin T-shirts?  How about little foil-covered chocolate Bitcoins? Nope, sorry.

Idiotic.  But that's what you do when you can't think with any kind of nuance, and the people who are in a position of making these decisions simply can't.

It's not a ban on anything crypto related. It's just a ban on paid ads. You can still post any crypto stuff you want on your personal page.

What? Crypto spends a lot of energy? What kind of energy do you mean? Precisely crypto has saved energy.
You have said something ridiculous.

How do you think transactions are processed in Bitcoin and Ethereum? Have you ever heard of mining?

I will try to make a one line explanation of what is mining:
Miners confirm all transactions for a little reward (paid in bitcoin). Then miners encrypt all the transactions in a block and make a hash. This hash is used in the next block. This is why it's called "blockchain".

This process consumes a lot of electricity. A lot,Bitcoin mining operations now consumes more energy than small countries. The topic is a lot controversial and polemic, as bitcoin is usually mining where energy is cheap and is produced in excess, on the other side people say it's bad for the environment, but anyway...

Being a crypto enthusiast, I was baffled upon reading the entire body of the subject. Why such a tech giant such as Google doesn't want cryptocurrencies be advertised? We are already in the golden age of digital economy and more people became interested as time goes by.

I read it's a moral stand against man made climate change.

Crypto currencies are wasting a lot of energy right now...

Such ban simply ushers crypto currency in the limelight of things.
The elites are trying to frustrate digital money since they have little or no control over
it as it is decentralized. However, what may occur in the near future is an entirely
fresh and new development of other platforms to wholly and absolutely promote
crypto currencies, digital decentralized platforms and block chain. What Google and its likes
are doing is never to be part of the success story of crypto currency that has come to stay.
I am sure it is a game of the elite banking conventional. They fear with the development of crypto that is increasingly popular. And I think, without advertising from google, the crypto remains popular.

So... Little by little, crypto is being brought down to the same level as porn, if advertisement rights are to be believed.

I think it is a bit premature to group crypto in with explicit content such as pornography. Every single google-based crypto advertisement I saw was either a scam or looked like it could have easily been an exit scheme. Perhaps Google and internet advertisers will look to rework/establish new guidelines on how cryptocurrencies will be advertised using their platforms so a large number of scams aren't out in the open for any joe and jane to be looped into.

This news is not new to us, cryptocurrencies like bitcoin have attempted to ban before and long time ago but it doesn't stop the community to continue to support the cryptocurrency world because decentralization is a form of freedom and no one can allow to suppress our freedom even the elite and wealthy can't stop our freedom. So such ban is just a temporary until such an alternative solution will be imposed.

i think this ban is temporal until they find a way to regulate it and resolve in some kind.
meanwhile in the field of Facebook with a similar restriction, you can still find this kind of ads

I assure you, they're going to shut it down not in one swoop, but one by one. I haven't seen any much ads related to cryptocurrencies, ICO's and stuffs like that lately. It only means that they are taking this thing seriously. If you happen to see such similar ads to that, only time may tell until it is being removed from the site.

Since after the ban placed on bitcoin by Facebook, there had been a very high chance of the ban reaching other websites. But sincerely, I didn't expect google to be part of that legacy. All we need to do now is hope that the ban should be removed, if not bitcoin might suffer loss.

These companies have joined forces due to their same goal. Don't expect that this policy will only be implemented  in a single site. Google is a big loss for cryptocurrencies but there are sites that isn't being owned by it nor a partner of them. Even though they are just small sites with little scale of visitors, it will still make a difference for the cryptocurrency market.

I think, since many ico or cryptocurrencies ads made for any harmfull and scamming pottential over there, that's why google taking care about this and ann that they will ban that ads type.
But I think it's good for us, so the project  allocation fund for marketing will be allocated to bounty due to there is no choices from developments to introduce their project, and bounty campaign are the great way to do that.  Grin Wink

After a long day at work, it became a habit for me to read news just to be informative on what's happening around. Then I bumped into this interested topic which came from our local news website.

Being a crypto enthusiast, I was baffled upon reading the entire body of the subject. Why such a tech giant such as Google doesn't want cryptocurrencies be advertised? We are already in the golden age of digital economy and more people became interested as time goes by.

"As per Alphabet Inc's Google, they will shutdown ads that contains cryptocurrencies this coming June.

The new policy implemented will ban advertisement that are unregulated or speculative financial products.

They (Google) want to improve the ads experience across the web, and crypto related ads has become more harmful and intrusive to the market.

Even Facebook already announced to ban ICO's, it will be implemented across all platforms including Instagram"

There were a lot of scams being perpetrated by crooks using Google ads. It is also a way to discourage cryptos for the meantime until it matures more.

I'm sure there are lots of industries were scams are being perpetrated using Google Ads. If Google really wanted to help the situation they could check who is posting the ad and the authenticity of the link very easily. This would work with phising sites. No need to shut everything down is there??

Its funny to see Google and Facebook, once pioneering technology companies (now large bloated corporations) act in the same way as the establishment (shutting out the new to protect itself). People are getting banned on youtube for having slightly leftfield views and the issue of censorship is arising. It doesn't matter that they do this because ways around it will always be found.

Aren't they just banning exchanges, ICOs and stuff like that? They have brought it on themselves with all their scammy offerings.

Bitcoin Talk has introduced the merit system for much the same reason.

Nop, check their announcement: "Cryptocurrencies and related content (including but not limited to initial coin offerings, cryptocurrency exchanges, cryptocurrency wallets, and cryptocurrency trading advice)"

Crypto currencies are wasting a lot of energy right now...

it's possible that mining (proof of work) encourages renewable energy sources adoption in a near future.

I don't think Google is worried about environment, probably there are other interests. Many phishing sites were using Google ads too, that was a problem...
