If anyone is really concerned about what is going on with GPUMAX, you can always hop on http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=gpumax and talk with others in the GPUMAX IRC channel.

Unfortunately, on principal alone, I can not bring myself to using IRC, although feel free to let me know if Morse Code or Smoke Signals ever become fashionable again Wink

Unfortunately, on principal alone, I can not bring myself to consider you anything but a closed-minded idiot, although feel free to let me know if you get off your high horse and are willing to use a solid, proven technology that is freely accessible to anybody with an internet connection and a rudimentary computer Wink.

Home phones are still very popular and that dates back nearly a century Wink

Home phones are popular? Where do you live? In a cave, or what? lol

Your comment doesnt change the fact that homephones are still popular.
Not "popular", but more like "laid on because of regulations". Landline phone services have minimum reliability standards mandated by the FCC, and up until recently have been required along with electricity and water to be installed into new homes. So you have this connection that has always been there, and is always on and working, which means that many people still use it.

Ok you are viewing this entirely out of FCC regulations which doesnt apply worldwide. Im refering to worldwide where people have homes (not refering to rural areas or ghettos) people still have home phones along with their cellphones and to go even further alot of elderly people in oldage homes only have homephones.

Is there maintenance going on 'under the hood' @ GPUMAX currently ?

This is the first time in quite a while that I am not receiving any Public/Leased work at this time of the day....nor have I all morning from what I can tell.

After the 'hickups' that a few of us experienced earlier this morning (website and mining server completely offline for a brief period), I hope everything is OK.

"Yes I am a pirate, 200 years too late."
I didnt say it wasnt working. I said it doesnt work if you replace the URL with the IP the URL resolves to, so Im asking if there is another IP I can use instead.

0   http://184.173.241.234:8332   Dead
1   http://gpumax.com:8332   Alive

That's probably due to using Apache virtual hosts. Can be perfectly normal...

I have the same question, is it impossible to reach by IP?
If multiple domains are hosted on the same IP address, then they are split via virtual hosts.  In that case, and if there is no default host specified when a client connects without specifying a DNS name, it won't know which virtual host to connect the client to, and error out.

Connection by IP can also be purposefully disabled without hosting multiple domains on the same IP, but I'm not sure why anyone would want to do that.

That's correct and it's due to the multiple load balancers that mange the connections to the internal servers.

What's the advantage of using the ip vs dns?  A single roundtrip when you start your mining software?

If I enter the IP gpumax.com resolves to (184.173.241.234), the worker reports dead.
Im guessing thats because of load balancing. Is there another IP we can use to avoid DNS problems?

GPUMAX is working fine for me.
