@RivAnge. Why? What is special about this hardfork? I reckon this is only a regular upgrade with some bug fixes.

Monero has a hardfork on regular intervals every 6 months similar to Grin. It is only part of its development.

Grin Cryptocurrency Executes First Hard Fork

Tromp said that today’s upgrade did not result in a network split. Rather, the old Grin network simply halted “in its tracks,” effectively forcing users to update their software. The upgrade was completed at 9:45 UTC.

I would expect at least a 30% rally after a successful fork.
As far as I can tell, everything went smoothly, this should speak tons of the team's capabilities and enhance the proofs that they are worth our trust... at least on delivering a great product.... for the marketing we'll have to see.
Hopefully the community will help with the marketing instead of trying to buy low and dump high, wining when they are not rewarded for siting in their asses!

We have not discussed the why of this pump. I was speculating that it might be a listing on Binance, however, Brian Armstrong said this.

A listing on Coinbase?

A scalable, sufficiently decentralized, chain that supported private transactions by default (privacy coins) would be a game changer.

Source https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/c43p7a/brian_armstrong_a_scalable_sufficiently/

If these listings actually happen this year then $3 will look like very cheap. I still don't own any grin and I am not convinced to buy any but these are obviously good news (for grin). However, since that bald guy at coinbase is an asshole i am not really positive for a coinbase listing.

Did they even activate segwit? There were some news about it last year,
https://blog.coinbase.com/announcing-segwit-support-on-coinbase-4e51117857c7

but I don't know if they successfully implemented segwit since I can't find any verification.

tldr; Binance is more likely.

@Febo. It might depend on the hype behind Grin. However, risking Cryptotourist jumping off a cliff, Grin's monetary is what might prevent it from reaching $50 within 533 days. I reckon $15 might be a more possible valuation.

Yes about the hype.  Litecoin had some. And at end of 2020 will be almost 10 years old compared to less then two of Grin. Not to mention that 5 years ago before I got to this forum, I know only Litecoin beside Bitcoin. So Litecoin 5 years ago was already known to random people.

The real questions - if you wan to go full retard - are: how many BTC in Grin, & what will BTC fiat price be then?

Cool, so that's something like 2.5 cents or more every day. Do we really got to depend only on hype though? Smiley

Dips like today/yesterday taking everything almost down to the same price it was a month ago, making coins like GRIN looking sweeter than ever.

Not jumping off a cliff, nor mentioning these words, but I will speculate that Grin will reach the $50 mark late 2020 - based on what just came out of my... Roll Eyes

Lets say late 2020 is last day of 2020.

Today we have 15.652.740 GRIN   and is 533 days until then. Everyday we get fresh 86.400 GRIN. So then we will have 15.652.740+533*86.400=61.703.940 GRIN * $50= $3 billions.  Tasty!    At beginning of 2021, GRIN will start catching Litecoin number of coins Smiley

Not before going down to $0.50, however. This prediction also based on what came out of my Lips sealed hehe.

Grin has a very long way to go before taking its place on the top 10. We only have this forum accepting it as payment hehehe.

Only you - can convince yourself - or not.
That said, you seem relatively convinced already. Grin

Dump happened and I guess now is a good time if ever.

Yeah, guys like me already made up my mind about what we want to do, but every now and then I want someone else to tell me how smart I am to be making such a brave decision;)

Anyway about to make preparations for an entry below $3.95. Just hope BTC doesn't go too crazy in the meanwhile.

@Cryptotourist. We do not know. It would be very hard to speculate when without mentioning Grin's monetary policy and design. I reckon you should prepare to jump from a cliff hehehe.

So guys, anybody wants to convince a semi amateur guy who has bitcoin, and has only 1 privacy coin (monero) that now is a good time to get into Grin? I'm actually thinking to even mine it, if it is low enough in requirements (it seems so but I need to properly check!). Dump happened and I guess now is a good time if ever.

Mining is pretty easy so far, it seems like ASICs have not been manufactured yet. In case you're new and you don't already know, about half of the network is planned to be GPU mined and the other half ASIC mined (using 2 different algorithms at the same time).

@Febo. If they become no.1 and 2, I reckon no exchange would have a choice but to list them. Coinbase would be killed out of business if Brian Armstrong runs it with his pride hehehe.

Coinbase CEO Bryan Armstrong tweeted a video with a grin sticker in it, leading to lots of speculation about a possible future listing.
To me it just looks like someone has great taste in laptop stickers, that’s all. ツ

https://grinnews.substack.com/p/55-grin-20-

He is invested in Electric Coin Company that gets 20% of all Zcash created. So I highly doubt he will want to list anything to Coinbase that eats his lunch.   Other hand, that tax ends next year, but they already talk about new coin, so that way they might just prolong it. Smiley

However, it would be contradictory if Brian Armstrong does not list something that is evidently a future top 10 cryptocoin.

The people who want Grin, that would have traded it in Coinbase, can easily go to another exchange.
Trust me he will not list nor Monero nor Grin, even if they are listed rank one and two on cmc.  He might list beam if they will pay him well or somehow include him in their company.
