Thanks for the quick reply.
I clicked your link but couldn't find the Software you mentioned.
Could you point me out exactly what I need to download.

Thank you Smiley

Really???
The link is down the page a bit.
It should be a piece of cake for you to figure out from there.

Your answer is here: http://cryptomining-blog.com/?s=Download+cpuminer+for+Gridseed+5-chip+GC3355+ASICs+with+Reduced+Power+Usage

Install the STMmicroelectronics USB driver as well.
You'll be trading in no time!

Wolfey2014

Verified. It's a 2-step process. DL the cpuminer and install the driver. Worked 100% perfect.
Wolfey2014 - Excellent advice.

Hello Bitcoin Community,

I've gotten my 5 Chip Gridseed miner today. I was really excited about it and hooked it up, right after i got it. But since this morning I've been trying to get it working... without success. I have tried (probably) everything but it's still not working. BTC, BTC/LTC, LTC neither one of those modes is working. The Settings are correct (indeed i checked them several times and tried 3 Pools), the miner is powered by a 12V 5A powersupply and it's hooked up to the computer. So that should be ok.

But all I get to see is that the miner is "working" in the programm. But there are no accepted nor rejected shares what so ever.
No Hashrate on the pool, no shares, nothing...

And the Mining software (BFG,CGMINER 3.x.x,CPUMINER,...) are all showing that the "network diff is set to X" (the actual difficulty for the coin) right after that i got this: "stratum from pool 0 detected new block".

My Fan is on, the green LED is flashing constantly with a 1 sec. intervall and the red LED is "flashing" in an 60sec. interval.

I really dont know what to do. So if one of you can help me solve this problem i will send you 0.02 BTC (I'm sorry but thats all :/)

It's strange, because even cgminer fails to authenticate for my GPU rigs when using that port. I don't know why, but the port I listed in cpuminer does work for both.
I also don't get any colors on my screen, it's all B/W display.

Tell me where I can get an 800 KH/s rig for $400 ($.5 per KH/s) and I will delete this post.

You don't build 800 KH/s GPU rigs, a typical rig of the past couple of months would be 6x R9 270, and it can do ~2.8 MH/s. Cost ~$1100 for GPUs plus "infrastructure".

Before R9 280X prices went crazy you could build a very nice 6 GPU 4.5 MH/s rig for $1800 + "infrastructure". Now prices seem to be coming back to normal, so that could be possible again.

There is also the GTX 750 Ti, not as cheap in $ per KH/s, but much more power efficient, somewhere in the middle between Gridseed and AMD GPU.

There is no need for a massive expensive PSU, two mid-range 600-850W PSUs will do nicely and will be cheaper. There is the ASRock BTC motherboard available for ~$70 (6 powered PCI-Express slots). Cheapest CPU and RAM will do just fine. HDD is not necessary, a $10 flash drive runs BAMT.

The point is, you can overengineer and overspend on any solution, but a well though out GPU rig does not come even close to $1 per KH/s AND is a lot more versatile than Gridseeds (think Vertcoin or Heavycoin). On the other hand, you can put a handful of Gridseeds on your desk and have 1.5 MH/s literally in minutes. Each has its benefits if you know what you're doing.

Ok, im trying to follow the steps in 5B (Windows).
I plugged in the USB miner to power and my computer.
I went to the device manager, and I didn't see any changes to the COM ports. However, I did see "STM32 Virtual COM Port" added to the "USB" section in the device manager.
So, im not a windows person and im wondering how to get the com port number. Under the USB section, it doesn't give any numbers. All it shows is "update driver" and other common options.

Have you installed zadig drivers for cgminer. If so you need to remove them. You should be able to click on the st under usb devices and remove the device and drivers then download and install the st drivers again. It will put it back under the comport tab.

this should be a link to them
http://www.st.com/web/en/catalog/tools/PF257938

Ik, uninstalled and removed driver.
Now it's showing up under "Other devices" as "STM32 Virtual COM Port".
Port_#0007.Hub_#0004
Device status sais there are no drivers for this device installed.
Installed the drivers from your link, and now I am seeing "STMicroelectronics Virtual COM Port (COM6)"
Ok, on-to the next step, which is the modified CPU miner...

Ok, almost there, but still getting an error as follows:

usb device stays busy.

I've been experimenting with cpuming and cgminer running on rasberry and if I kill a job (I started with nohup) and then try to restart it - I get an error that the usb device is busy.

anyway to 'nuke' this bust state?

thanks

I have not tested this but it might help:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/323146/how-to-close-a-file-descriptor-from-another-process-in-unix-systems

If I kill cgminer I can restart it with same USB port. Not sure what you're doing differently. Have you tried without nohup?

has anyone tried cgminer in the beginning of this thread?

I can't get it to work

root@raspberrypi:/home/miner/usb-miner/software/cgminer# ./cgminer -F 850 -G /dev/ttyACM10  -o stratum+tcp://us.ltcrabbit.com:3334 -u xxxx.10 -p 123
 [2014-03-18 16:09:36] ./cgminer: -F: unrecognized option

Try this instead:

./cgminer --gridseed-options=baud=115200,freq=850 --usb 1:1 -o stratum+tcp://us.ltcrabbit.com:3334 -u xxxx.10 -p 123

Instead of 1:1 you would use actual bus:device numbers, you can find those by running cgminer -n --usb-list. If you don't specify --usb, it will use all available gridseed miners.

so - given the blelow list - I would have number like:
1:27
1:26
1:25
1:24
etc?
