These surviving exchanges had better improved their cybersecurity. It is out rightly  ridiculous to imagine such scenarios when there are pump in the market, traders cant be able to access their assets. How can they make gains off the dynamic ATH if such things persistently happen?

Not sure if this has been brought up:

Important! EXMO Security Incident Update

Not so known exchanges, losing 5% of their total funds to the hackers? This is huge hit on them,

Quote
Dear EXMO users,

We have spotted some large withdrawals since December 21st at 2:27:02 UTC.

We are still investigating the incident, but as of now, the security audit report showed that some amounts of BTC, XRP, ZEC, USDT, ETC and ETH in EXMO’s hot wallets were transferred out of the exchange. We reacted immediately and re-deployed hot wallets. The affected hot wallets comprise near 5% of the total assets. Let us stress that all the assets in the cold wallets are safe.

I agree with @fillippone, as hackers are stepping up the game, exchanges will need to continue to raise the bar otherwise hackers are going to pick them up.

Seems another one bit the dust:

What is going on?
Altilly got hacked recently in week 52 of 2020 and we lost all access to our servers. We are still investigating the damage that has been caused. There is still a chance that all data might be recovered, depending on our hosting provider. We are working round the clock together with our hosting provider to recover data.

I am not fully trust with exchange hacked why not investigate with the owner when announcing their exchange have hacked, look how much assets he has before and after exchange hacked, I think just the way how to get easy reason to make investor trusted with them and always investor become victim with their market hacked, almost when exchange hacked not have any good news for refund all investor money and last with OKEX hacked still give problem for investor and member how and when available to withdraw their assets, bad problem right now with exchange market issues hacked.

Merry Christmas comrades!

LiveCoin is one of the longest living exchanges. Being long in business in crypto is a really important measure of security. Apparently, you have to continually raise the bar, however....

Merry Christmas too buddy!
We do have some bad news on here mate. Im much aware of this exchange but it had been targeted of those hackers specially now its holiday season and they do need up some money. Lol
So this one piled up in the list and this will continue to grow if platforms arent really serious when it comes to security. They should give importance on strengthen their security to avoid these kind of problems.
Im always anticipating nor not able to get shocked when these kind of incidents do happen.

Russian crypto-exchange Livecoin hacked after it lost control of its servers

Quote
Russian cryptocurrency exchange Livecoin posted on message on its official website on Christmas Eve claiming it was hacked and lost control of some of its servers, warning customers to stop using its services.

According to posts on social media, the attack seems to have happened on the night between December 23 and December 24.

Hackers appear to have taken control of the Livecoin infrastructure and then proceeded to modify the exchange rates to gigantic and unrealistic values.

LiveCoin is one of the longest living exchanges. Being long in business in crypto is a really important measure of security. Apparently, you have to continually raise the bar, however....

75 crypto exchanges have closed down so far in 2020

Quote
As least 75 crypto exchanges have closed down due hacks, scams or simply disappeared for unknown reasons so far this year.
https://cointelegraph.com/news/75-crypto-exchanges-have-closed-down-so-far-in-2020

And we haven't finished the year.
Im 100% sure that out of this 75 exchangers closed its doors, i havent heard up their name ever since. We dont need lots of them and to those exchange owner or creator,

they do really believe that they can get some good marketshare or recognition from the market easily and soon they have realized that it isnt really feasible for them.

So its a wise choice to close their doors instead excluding to those been hacked and scammed which is a different issue.

Op updated this thread and I saw less exchange hacked compared to the previous few years which is good but I hope that there is no edchange will hacked again because money is involved on that and that is millions dollars. I hope the team of the trading sites will do their best to full secure their site that no one can hack it remember that they need to protect it because if not for sure trqder will leave and find other exchanges sites who is more secure.
Hacking incidents is inevitable and as long this market do involves money then expect that those hackers are just lurking in the dark and just waiting up for the right opportunity
to sip out some money.

An important bit of information is that they have an insurance covering this loss, so user money is not at risk.
In these cases it is advisable to download your commercial history, in case things do not go as advertised...

Cryptocurrency Exchange KuCoin Hacked

Quote
A lot of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrency left the exchange all at once. About $150 million worth, actually.
The company confirmed that late on September 25 (UTC time), "Bitcoin, ERC-20 and other tokens in KuCoin's hot wallets were transferred out of the exchange."

Please rest assured that if any user fund is affected by this incident, it will be covered completely by KuCoin and our insurance fund.

This reminds us that as “not your keys, not your coins”,  so when you deposit coins on an exchange you have to choose wisely, depositing your precious on a good enough one providing at least some degree of insurance.

Great information you have there, I was a victim of cryptopia hack, I lost 278 usd in several coins including btc, eth, ripple and a few erc20 tokens.
Its rather unfortunate that this things have to happen, i dream of running a big crypto exchange company in the future, but when i look at all this hacks and all the money all this exchanges have lost, I get scared and discouraged  Sad
What a miserable experience. I was also a victim of scam exchange before but I only lose few coins in cryptopia. Well, it just a lesson for us that we have to move our coins in our wallet once we buy in exchange. Many exchanges were already lose traders because of hacking and poor security. However, this is not the reason why should we stop in trading or even discourages. Because part of the game is to lose. It just a matter of selecting better exchange that has security and liquidity.

European digital currency exchange hacked for over $5M

Quote
Eterbase has been hacked for roughly $5.3 million; according to an announcement from the Slovakia-based digital currency exchange, the Eterbase hot wallet was breached and six digital currencies—BTC, ETH/ERC-20, XRP, TRON (TRX), Tezos (XTZ), and Algorand (ALGO)—were stolen. Shortly after the hack occurred, Eterbase announced that they suspended trading and withdrawals from their platform until September 10.

Hello,
You might find interesting that GS, in his infamous last presentation, added a list of hacked exchanges to demonstrate Bitcoin is subject to hacks. (Logic fallacy here)

The rationale to use such an argumentation is intellectually embarassing, but maybe you want to add to your thread.

Have a look here for the orginal slides:

Most of the exchange sites within the crypto market are new and therefore the number of hackers is increasing That's why I exploit the Trusted Wallet to secure my crypto. No hacker can steal using the 2fa code to guard his wallet. this may keep our assets safe and make transactions much easier KYC sites are hacked more when exchanging. Hack exchange sites invite KYC and keep exchanging new links in order that they don't steal all our data Banks work for his or her own benefit.

With this long lists of hacked exchanges and probably even more to come, it can't be overruled that exchanges are not secured mostly centralized exchanges; although some were able to manage it, a good number weren't which lead to terrible losses. Moreover, so far exchanges will continue existing, hackers will always see them as a potential place to steal from. Thus, as many have said and will continue saying, if one cares for the safety of his assets then the only line of security is keeping those huge assets off exchanges.

Well, exchanges were never ment to be wallets and people very often use them to.stores their coins there.
Of course they are attractive to hackers, usually they are easy money and until recently exchanges didn't care too much about security.
I have a feeling that situation has slightly improved but still you shouldn't store your coins there, except the amount you wish to trade.
Exchanges will always be hacker's targets as well as banks will be always robbed by robbers. The only question is how much we can do to protect ourselves and customer policy that each exchange.has is also very important.
