Even though there is a lot of cases of hacked exchanges from the past to present, we are still thriving and the market just shakes it off. I hope in the next few years, the exchanges will have more security than before which they can easily defend themselves from a strong cyber attack. Exchanges are easy target for the hackers and exchanges should really take their security seriously if they want to build a solid reputation long term.

Unfortunately the list of hacked exchanges is getting bigger, it's like they are easy prey for criminals. This is a huge problem for users and I beleive exchanges should invest more in security and put more efforts to protect the users. It's an additional investment for them but without that they will not survive.
This requires more of a good management than strong IT infrastructure unfortunately. It is usually humans that err and become the weakest links that result in hacks. There will never be a true aid for inside jobs as well and is probably a matter of time before a rogue employee takes a chair somewhere high in the ladder. For this to be secure we would need a truly regulated market where people would risk real jail-time for wrongdoings in this business.

Thank you for sharing this valuable information, I am very surprised to see that quite a number of exchanges have fallen victim to hackers.
Seeing these data we become open-minded, it turns out very dangerous if we save all the funds we have on exchanges. Therefore this is
a lesson for all of us to save our funds in the hardware wallet. And I am also more surprised to see that every year the number of exchanges
hacked is increasing.

I lost coins when Cryptsy was hacked a few years ago. Actually, it may not have been hacked because many people believe that the owner stole the coins and moved to China. Either way, the coins are lost and will never be recovered.
I never save and hold coin with not poplar exchange market because I worried when this market hacked make us loss our saving assets and I ever lost 0.1 btc when saving in liqui because some one hack my account, for safety exchange if you want hold long time better keep save with popular and bigger exchange market like Binance, Bitrrex, Huobi and Kucoin.

I wish information about the amount hacked in each exchange since 2011 was all available. It would be awesome to have a graph showing how much in BTC or USD has been hacked in different exchanges each year.

Yes, that is the idea, but it is the most complicated, to find and contrast the data.
The final presentation per year should look like this for every year:

2011 > 7
Code:

Year Month Exchange   Amount/$ Hacked   Source:

2011  Jun. MTGOX          30.000    2.000 / BTC    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mt._Gox#Security_breach_and_invalid_addresses_(2011)

Cryptocurrency exchange hack has gradually become a thing of worry considering the whooping amount of about $1.4 billion has been lost to hack till date and about $171 million had been lost to hack just this year, this does not speak well of crypto and the security it profess. I would every exchange to host a bug bounty for hackers to see if they can detect any loopholes which fraudsters might exploit.  Doing this will keep the exchange security at alert at all times
Last year 2019 become bad and extremely with many exchange hacked with million dollar each exchange, many exchange never grow up and failed after hacked like cryptopia where many investor money never can get back. I hope with new year many exchange market upgrade their security system where most safety from hacker, investor will safety hold their assets in exchange market.

South Korean Crypto Exchange Prixbit Closes Down Citing Financial Difficulties

Quote
Business Korea reports that the customers are concerned about their deposits given that the exchange was closed due to financial problems.

Business Korea also gave reasons why many korean based exchanges are in danger of closing down saying that only four exchanges have been able to directly connect with local banks allowing for fiat transactions while the rest have been restricted from the financial system. They also cite low trading volume as a major concern.

As per the Business Korea report about 200 Korean exchanges risk being closed down which is about 97 percent of the sector.

Thanks for sharing those information to us. Yes, we all heard that hackers had stolen over $40 million worth of bitcoin form Binance, one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges. They also managed to get some user information such as two-factor autentication codes, which are required to log in to Binance account. We would like to see more details from exchanges so users can learn how to keep account safe. I like the tips below the list. It's really helpful.

Thanks for sharing this information. It is all the exchanges' responses to keep the token safe. While it is always the community to be the faster responser rather than the security team. Power of the security team is limited, power of community is unlimited. That's why we view the community so important.
