On December 12, 2010, 12:22:33 PM (local), Satoshi Nakamoto, founder of Bitcoin, penned his last post on this forum. We'll now pay homage to this man by declaring today Satoshi Nakamoto Day, marking the one year anniversary of his last communication to us.

What he left for us is an ideology, and all who've followed his path are his descendants, his legacy lies with them and all those who'll soon follow.

In honnor of Satoshi Nakamoto, I shall post this declaration at the exact minute and, hopefully, second to correspond with the timestamp of his last post.

oh i'm late to see this post, but i glad to say Happy Satoshi Nakamoto Day i hope this celebrate will more merry sometime Grin
i wondering when is "bitcoin day"  Huh

October 31st, probably not Nov 5th - day the white paper was published?

This is a good proposal. A single paper that generated a market of $ 6,360,708,736  Grin

I think it should be 3rd of January, the day when the genesis block was mined. Nevertheless, I am still thankful for this wonderful piece of technology that is laid down in front of me. Happy Satoshi Nakamoto day everyone! Though we may not be able to know who he is, still we know for certain that he/she/they is a genius for creating bitcoin. Smiley

As I was explaining Satoshi Nakamoto Day to someone, I realized, that Satoshi posted something when Dorian was getting harassed by Newsweek, right?

I'm curious if that means we need to recalibrate SND to his latest post?  Thoughts?

I'm ok keeping it Dec 12th, or we can put it back up for a vote.  Options include:

Nov 5th - day the white paper was published?
Dec 12th - last day on forums
whatever day the post said "I'm not Dorian Nakamoto"
others?

Thanks to all the supporters!

Personally believe that the day the white paper was published. Otherwise, the dates could change constantly. Plus, The day of the white paper being released was one of the first movements of Bitcoin involving the public.

I'm ok with that; however, is it Nov 5th, 2008?  I was under the impression the paper was released in October 2008.  So if you can help me nail down the date, we can perhaps rebrand Satoshi Nakamoto Day and figure this out for going forward, haha.

Thanks in advance!

I believe the paper was published on metzdowd on 31st October, 2008 (18:10 UTC).

You can browse the cryptography@metzdowd mailing list month-by-month simply by modifying the url.  Here's October, 2008 and November, 2008.

The "I am not Dorian Nakamoto." comment was posted on p2pfoundation on 7th of March, 2014 (01:17 UTC).

Happy Satoshi Nakamoto Day!

Options for future celebrations include:

October 31st, probably not Nov 5th - day the white paper was published?
Dec 12th - last day on forums
March 7th - day the post said "I'm not Dorian Nakamoto"
others?

Let me know if we decide to change it, and I'll mark my calendar!

Birthdays happen on the anniversary of a birth, not an anniversary of a conception and certainly not just when  the baby was a glimmer in daddy's eye. "Satoshi Nakamoto Day" should also be the day of bitcoin's birth: 3rd January.

Why should "Satoshi Nakamoto Day" coincide with "Bitcoin's Birthday"?

If you can find something else he's done that's worth celebrating, lets hear it!

Otherwise, bitcoin is the only thing for which Nakamoto is known, and no-one is going to have a birthday for a currency. Or at least there won't be any serious fun at the party.

A party for a mysterious semi-legendary anti-government and paranoid hacker who created his own currency and then disappeared? *That* would be one fun party.

Exactly! The more celebrated Bitcoin days, the better - within in reason of course (definitely not more than 365).  Cool or  Roll Eyes

On a side note, is there a definitive This Day in Crypto History? If not, who's on it?

Happy Satoshi Nakamoto day, or should I say a fond farewell to the creator and founder of Bitcoin
Till we meet again hopefully someday in the distant future, when he comes out of hiding
Or perhaps he never will in which case let him remain an enigma and the shadow leader of a great technology.
