A soft cap is the minimum needed for the project to proceed and a hard cap is the amount that they will accept no more than. For instance a soft cap could be 10 million and a hard cap 30 million meaning if the project does not attain 10 million it will not proceed and also if it reaches 30 million no more can be contributed.

yes you clearly said that one. soft cap is he minimum requirement and hard cap means maximum can collected, as per example bobs repair ico , soft cap is 8000 eth , thats already reached. and 30000 is the hard cap. so it will be on April 4. that the maximum.

I think softcap is a light target that determines whether the project continues or not, while hardcap is the main target of a project for which the project can be successful in the future
the project can proceed even the project gets only its soft cap, though it will be much effective to finish the project smoothly if the hard cap reached since it is maximum amount wherein all possible funds will be allocated . In soft cap it can considered successful but maybe hard to continuously do progress on its project.

this is the goal they want to achieve. the soft cover is the minimum amount, the hard cover is the maximum amount. but if the project will not be able to keep to a minimum (soft cap), the project will not pass on.

SOft cap is the minimum amount of money the team need to proceed with the project, while Hard cap is the maximum amount of fund the team need to actualise all their plans for the project.

Softcap is the minimum target of the project that must be achieved. Hard cap is the maximum target of the ICO. If softcap not achieved fully, project can't be carry forward any further and funds are returned back to investors... If hard cap fully achieved. project is called successful.

They are both fundraising goals, one an upper limit and the other, lower. Whether unable to reach the lower or surpass the upper, funds are returned.

Hardcap would be the maximum funds that these developers need to raise, softcap would be the minium capital they need to pursue the project. If the softcap hasnt been achieve there will be less chance that the project would still go on to the next level, most of your investements would be return by these ICOs.

It was helpful.
If it does not reach the soft cap, it may or may not be refunded.
There is also a project to pay back.
Investors should be more aware of this. That is why investors should invest in coins that look like they are close to obtaining their softcap.

Nobody really explained or discussed the hard cap.

A project has a maximum number of coins or tokens. The developers can't create more coins, although they can split the total amount of coins into portions. A portion for public sale, another for salaries and expenses, a portion for marketing, etc.

Let's say a project has 100 coins. 50 coins are reserved for the public sale. Each coin is $1. The hard cap is 50 coins = $50.

But why would you limit your project to a fixed amount of money? You could also develop a scheme where each sold coin increases the price of the next coin, up to a just shy of infinite hard cap.

Coin #1 = $1
Coin #2 = $2
Coin #3 = $4
Coin #4 = $8
Coin #10 = $512
Coin #15 = $32,768
Coin #20 = $524,288
Coin #30 = $536,870,912
Coin #40 = $549,755,813,888
Coin #50 = $562,949,953,421,312

Hard and soft caps can tell a project's intensions, a good project exactly knows how, when and why..

Generally speaking, a hot ICO project will reach the hard hat, so the amount of the hard hat is very valuable.
If the hard hat is too high, then participating in the ICO project may not have a good return, so you need to think carefully.

I think I like projects that reached a little over the soft cap better than those that hit the hard cap. A soft cap project can have a large potential, while a hard cap project is likely overhyped.

What is the difference of hard cap to soft cap? Did we base on this if we are going to invest in altcoins? Share your comments.

As mentioned above by many people

Soft = Minimum
Hard = Maximum

For your question, Did we base on this if we are going to invest in altcoins?

I would say yes, basically you can actually make your own forecast model or estimate that if their project can actually survive and perform with the collected funds.
Normally, i would prefer ICO that has low Cap regardless Soft/hard. The reason why is because, i don't think an empty idea actually worth that much because if you eventually fail to deilver, your marketcap would drop on constantly

When the hardcap was achieved by the developers ICO sure will go thru and will be a success, but if not ICO will come to end more early than expected.

A soft cap is like the minimum amount the project needs to function and the hard cap is the its contrary, the maximum amount the project can collect and after that won`t accept any funds.

Soft cap means minimum needed money , harp cap means maximum needed money . We need not to base on this when investing .I think if the hard cap is reached ,it means the project is good enough.
