Tom, do you have any decision about European customers ? I don't want to leak anything but it should be nice if you've managed to sort anything in Europe Grin

Is there anything special for EU customers? You only have to pay VAT and some import fees depending on country (for me is 20% VAT + up to 5% import fee), thats all. Am I missing something?

54Gh/s is the gauranteed minimal hashing speed - we were very conservative here and it's likely that our software development team will be able to increase the mining speed.
Will it be an 5-10% increase or more or ? Can you please add this info along with power consumption ?
That would be even more speculative than estimated power consumption Smiley

Thanks for the board size (4"x9"), can you tell us the height of the hardware?
I will install the miner in 19" cases with 4HE, so the height is important for me.  Wink

There's only speculations regarding the watts, we should just wait another week or so for valid data.

Open source firmware!  Will BFL have that as well?  I'd love to be able to compile my own firmware, voiding the warranty, of course (it's not like we're not voiding warranties on our GPUs all the time).

Thanks Tom!

What will happen once preorders are over? Will they not be able to be ordered normally till .. when.. december 2012?

How do you know what process BFL is using?
Based on what different companies have said. (Avalon and bASIC)

Avalon has stated they are aiming for 130nm to 110nm.
bASIC has stated they will be using 90nm.
BFL has not yet gone on the record as to what process node they will be using.

So logically, up to this date, bASIC is using the smallest process node based on publicly available information.

Excellent, thanks for the info, Tom.  It's good to see some solid info.

This looks like it might be a likely candidate for the chip if it's sASIC: http://www.easic.com/low-cost-power-fpga-nre-asic-90nm-easic-nextreme/easic-nextreme-overview/

Can you tell us more about the power supply? What do we have to buy?

With this new info, it makes it a bit easier to guess at his power, though it's still speculation.  I'd estimate somewhere around 200w for a 54 GH/s unit, if he's using a CBIC.  If it's an sASIC, it would likely be more.

Thank you!

No wait,
You are trolling.

90 nm gate size seems reasonable. However I doubt much from just simulation data (own simulation or 3rd party simulation) until entire prototypes are made and tested. There is a reason the guys making the avalon say their simulation results show 2-2.67 watt per gh/s but give an estimate of 600 W because of their past experience in device fab.

I await actual efficiency data (from all companies), but remain confident that Tom has created a competitive product.

Here are the changes I see for the $1070 unit:

Was: Compact board design allows easy stacking and cooling
Now: Board dimensions 4" x 9"

#9 (policy)   4" x 9" Sized envelope.
- # 9 3-7/8" x "8-7/8"
Should cut down shipping costs Smiley

Trust me, these default swaps will limit the risks
90nm... my wild guess is ~2 W/GH.

That would be Competitive in IMO  Wink

Here are the changes I see for the $1070 unit:

Was: Multiple SHA256 hashing cores for a total Bitcoin mining speed of 54Gh/s
Now: Two Bitcoin SHA-256 Hashing Clusters with Twelve 90nm ASICs (6 ASICs per cluster)

Was: Thermal sensors and on chip heat sinks
Now: Dual High Performance heat sinks and fans.

Was: DC barrel connector for power
Now: Optional 4 Pin molex or DC barrel connector for power

Was: Compact board design allows easy stacking and cooling
Now: Board dimensions 4" x 9"

Was: bASIC Mining boards are projected to ship in November/December of 2012
Now: bASIC Mining boards are projected to ship in December of 2012

New: 54Gh/s is the gauranteed minimal hashing speed - we were very conservative here and it's likely that our software development team will be able to increase the mining speed.
New: Energy efficiency information is coming soon.

It says on your product specs page that you are using 90nm ASIC. Is this the final spec or is it only for the prototypes? (dumb question I know, but I have to ask it)

So far you seem to have the smallest process node of the 3 ASIC companies if so.

Buy this account on March-2019. New Owner here!!
The new website is looking awesome! Unfortunately I don't have time to move the database and migrate everything over tonight.

I will finish this in the morning..

However I have posted some specs to the old web site as promised.

The only thing that is really missing is the energy efficiency information which right now I only have simulated data.

I have stated before I will not claim any simulated/estimated electrical efficiency data and I am sticking to that - however...

I have decided to ask a reputable, well known and impartial third party to conduct a simulation and post the data for all to see.

I will try to have this arranged and completed this week so you still have a reason to check out the new web site! Tongue

After I post the winner on the contest thread I'm gone to bed - be working regular business hours tomorrow

have a wonderful evening and remember pre-sales end 24 hours from now!

Thank you to everyone!

what about importing to germany? Will i need to pay taxes or so?
You'll always have to pay VAT Mehrwertsteuer (19%) and some kind of fixed fee for customs handling like EUR 18 or more (depends on the shipping agent who can choose a different customs broker). Packages with a low value (for example EUR 50) are not handled and can pass through, although sometimes the customs handling fee is charged but no VAT.

Don't think you can get around it by asking the sender to give you a low value invoice as customs people do check regularly if the declared value is low enough to stay under the limit. It's just a matter for them to google and see the real value on the order site.

Chinese sites try to issue low value invoices or even declare items as gift but that does not work. It's not that easy ;-)

Having a lower value is a form of fraud and it will also cause problems for business customers who will get a mismatch in the invoicing with the corresponding IM4 documents that are generated
