Maybe it is possible. Not really that quite common but possible. If a project is doing bounty and giving away a lot of money that means the company is not doing well. If they do not give a lot of bounty that means the price has to increase a lot so that you earn money. Which is really not all that possible anymore with these projects, if you are not giving bounties too much, that means people will not really work hard anymore, since they will not get a lot why would they work hard.
So the dilemma is, if you give away a lot bounty the project will probably fail, if they do not give a lot then people will not work. So, there is a very very slim chance that high rewards is still possible, but it is quite small and quite improbably, hence I do not really see it.

What you are saying is also correct that with no. of participants being low and prize pool being high, participants can get good amount of tokens but if it is worth nothing in value in market then all you work has gone in vain. Its gonna really hurt when you watch back and realize the amount of time and hardwork all gone in vain.
There we also realize that if we do not work hard in the bounty, we will not get anything but patience must be there because someday high rewards will surely be found.

Ofcourse when the right time comes the reward will be back to normal we should have patience on it, even the reward now was reduces don't be afraid just joined campaign and trust the project, many project became successful even we are on the downtrend so don't loose hope we are going to be on track again.

Stop citing 2017 as an example. It was a different time, the rules have since changed. Now you can work 8 hours a day by participating in hundreds of bounties and not even earn $ 50 a month.

Well for now I think it was not possible because we are on the pandemic and crisis stage, the rewards for the hunters was always decreasing well I see some reasons when the project go to exchange the bounty hunter is on the first in line to sell and it will result dump so it will turn to disappointment of some investors and owner of project so they are reducing reward for the bounty hunter. 
Yes, it is still possible but depends on how the project progresses after going to exchange. I recently complete a project Hex and it has done more than x50. That's a good price.

Getting a good amount is possible if based on the original token value, problem is, the value will drop once it starts trading that's the challenge and this needs to be change, actually, if we are all hoping for some great bounty reward, all we have to do is just to hold it and wait for the altcoins season. I'm in bounties for years, I think every period had some great bounties and scam bounties! Both will always be there, it's up to us to find the best one, not to rush in the first new bounty without any research! That usually is a bad thing, you spent time and energy for worthless tokens, or in some cases without tokens at all if the team decide to run away before distribution! Don't lose hope, if you are patient and wait a bit before you jump in first bounty you can find a good one!

almost 2 years it's hard to guess how much we get from bounties. I think this year has improved, although the allocation for bounty participants is less than in previous years. Bug bounty campaigns for several campaigns on gitcoin are worth trying, they offer great amount.

Possible or not, it is possible. Actually nobody knows what can happen to a project, maybe someday there are project that after listed in market can get pumped a lot. So, about possibility maybe a lot of people can say it is possible, but how much about it , will be a little amount of project or maybe we can count it with our fingers.
I think it's still but with notes, projects that hold a bounty with a large allocation succeeded in increasing the value of their tokens or coins, and yes not all will get high rewards and in my opinion only translation campaigns and signature campaigns have opportunities, why?
