Wounder if anyone can help me? I am trying to connect to the hobo wallet rpc with a python lib that I am currently using on other coins like bottlecaps, supercoin and a couple others. It wont connect to hobo for some reason though. I get a socket timeout error. Any help would be appreciated

I am sure someone here can help. Quick guess is, the capitalization maybe off? Otherwise I think we might need the script you are running and/or the error log.

Hi Tranz,

I reported 2 days ago about S4C block selection in which size small seemed to win over priority. I had another block of about 9K staking today with the same effect. This time S4C decided to use a two day old block of about 4750 with 6000 confirmations (prio highest) over a newly created block of 4880 with 25 confirmations (prio < highest).

So it seems the algo just goes for the smallest block no matter what age it has. I don't want to be a bother but it think this impairs the S4C usability to some extend. I hope you have some time to check it out. Thanks!

I did see, just didn't get a chance to reply. I will do my best to update S4C to fix this issue.  I still think it works quite well in its current form. But I tend to leave my blocks much smaller in size, so I wouldn't notice as much of an issue.

Really much appreciated! I am also trimming my blocks down and practically I am not too much hampered too, so I really wouldn't wanna give it any sense of urgency at all.

Website is back up and running. Still a few things to get worked out. But it is active once again.

Good work Tranz Smiley

Last time I transferred the site from hosts, I couldn't figure out a decent way to get the wiki up and running without copy and pasting all of the articles Cry

Maybe you will have the skills  Cool

Still working on the wiki. Hopefully I don't have to do that.. Must be a better way.

Presstab, do you still have the mysql db?  I just need a dump of it and I should be able to import it.

IRC is still in the wallet. It is off by default, it can be turned into a chat feature somewhat easily. I asked this question a while ago, it didn't seem like anyone actually wanted this feature much.

There are a few coins that have/had an IRC channel built in to the wallet.  I had a few of those for a little while and didn't really see much activity.  I see a lot more in the threads most likely because they're archived and you can search for info.

While I think the built in IRC isn't worth the effort, the "alarm" that can be sent out saying there is an official update available would be a great addition.

I have a suggestion for a wallet feature. Actually this would be good for wallets of all coins. Build in a informational bulletin board screen to notify users that they need to update in case of hard fork or other technical problem. You can also make other announcements concerning games bounties etc. Maybe build in a chat feature that runs 24/7 so people can check in and see what is happening in the HoboNickel coin community. I have become a real fan of this coin and believe the bigger the community and the participation the better.

I like the idea of a chat feature. Who would run it? Would it be decentralized also?

Wouldn't that remove the whole idea of encryption?  The answer to your question is probably just don't encrypt your wallet.

Is it possible to unlock the wallet at start with a command line option, i.e. HoboNickels-qt.exe -unlockwallet [password]? Can't see any similar option from those available. Thanks.

Great! Nice to be able to check out the charts again.

About S4C. Today I have observed the S4C process in detail to see how the block selection works. Here's what happened:
I started with 2 mature blocks somewhat over 9K with the S4C enabled. When the first block staked, 2 blocks of 4860 were created of which one was used to sent S4C 25 confirmations later. Priority of these blocks was lower than 'highest'. So far so good.

Somewhat later the other block staked resulting again in 2 new blocks of 4860 with priority lower than 'highest'. The previous staked blocks by now had about 400 confirmations and priority 'highest'.

I'd say it would be fair to expect the S4C to choose one of the last created blocks with 25 confirmations and priority lower than 'highest'. Unfortunately that wasn't what happened. S4C choose the block of 4800 with 400 confirmations and priority 'highest'  in stead of the newly created block of 4860 with 25 confirmations and priority lower than 'highest'.

I came to the conclusion that S4C selection favors a tiny difference in blocksize over the priority it has. I think this shouldn't be like that, the priority should weigh before size. I can only imagine it was also meant to be. What use has priority otherwise?

In 2 days I have another block of 9K to stake and I don't dare to enable S4C anymore. The blocks created today will be the smallest in my wallet  and I am afraid S4C will choose them again. And there's no undo-button Smiley

Please can you clarify this.  Is the maximum RECEIVABLE AMOUNT of stake 250 HBN at any one block (eg a chunk of 12,500 HBN with 10 days coin age will produce 250 HBN stake)  , or is the maximum size of block (chunk) which will stake, limited at 250 HBN in some way ?

It is the maximum receivable amount of stake. A chunk of 12500 HBN should receive after 10 days a stake of 12500 x 10 x 1/365 = 342 which is above the limit. If my math is correct, 9125 coins should get you 250 HBN after 10 days.

(I'm assuming 100% stake. Due to HBN having NVCS this could change according to the difficulty)

Correct on both.

Another way to look at it would be, a set of 1,000 coins left in cold storage would reach max stake reward after ~ 95 days.

Thanks for the explanations.

1.5 introduces the 250 max stake right?  Friday night math doublecheck...we should make sure blocks are <10,000 so as to not hit the stake ceiling?

I noticed this "250" in OP...I thought that we been talking about 500?

Initially we discussed 500. I did some math after looking over the block chain and trying to figure out what was best for both the network, users and inflation rate.  250 seemed a bit better.  Based on what I see on the block chain. 99% of stakes are already well below this mark.
