May the force bit with you.

Stake interest  is what the current interest the algo is allowing. Divide it by 10,000 and you have 100% yearly interest. As the PoS difficulty goes up the interest goes down.

Min and Max weight let you know how aged your coins are, and how much weight they are carrying versus the entire network

As long as your wallet is live on the network, and it is not encrypted(or unlocked if it is), your coins will stake, just be patient.

More information can be found on the wiki. At wiki.hobonickels.info

Just curious that as stated in WIKI stake coins will be calculated once a wallet is connected to internet again.

What is the difference in stake gain between a always-online wallet and a disconnect-then-online (say maybe disconnected for few months) wallet?

Coins age no matter what, connected or not. But they do need to be online to become a block.

With an always online wallet you get additional coin through compounding interest.

Hi guys

I recently bought some HBN (11 days ago) and trying to stake for 6 hours now. Running getinfo gives me below. My question: what do these fields imply, namely netstakeweight, stakeweight, stakeinterest etc. Is there a guide on these already that I can look up. Am I staking or not? Sorry new to PoS, mostly been involved in PoW so far.

If your coins have at least 10 days of age, they are mature to stake.  Keep in mind that you are in competition just like PoW for the reward of staking.  Also note that it could take up to 30 days for the coins to stake.

So at this time, keep your wallet open and you might eventually see the stake appear in your wallet.  Note also that the longer it takes, the more chances you get of winning the stake.  You will eventually do.

Keep up the good work Tranz.

And for hobonickel traders:  please , if you can, take you business to Atomic Trade or CoinEx.   Why? Cryptsy sucks.  Their software bugged and now I have a negative BTC balance and unable to get my hobo's out -- be warned, could happen to you.

Atomic Trade has very little volume (next to none for HBN) but as far as I can tell is much more reliable and better than Cryptsy.

Your block explorer is down. CMC isn't showing info now for a few days now I think :

http://coinmarketcap.com/all.html

I think they will remove site after 7 days. Hope it can get back up or get a new one with 24/7 uptime or redundancy.

Thanks!

For those interested in seeing what new features and changes will be in version 1.4 see this thread.

https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/4390-preparing-hbn-v14/

it's good to see "walletpassphrase" will be valid forever for time 0

However I am always not sure if I should set True or False after time value to disable RPC send HBN function.
i.e. walletpassphrase passwd time true/false

You will want to set it to true. This will only allow you to mint coins and not send them out. I think in version 1.3.1.0 has the mint only option extended to gui. If not it will be in the v1.4 release.

I see no reason to change the way mining is done on Hobonickels. Trying to make things "equal" for PoW miners doesn't make sense. Whoever has the most hashing power will have the biggest advantage, just like whoever holds coins the longest gets priority. You can either PoS mine, PoW mine or buy the coins on the open market. I do all three and I haven't had any problems doing so.

The networks is being secured and supported, that is the important thing. If you PoW mine as a business then its your responsibility to stay on top of your business. Moniter your miners, switch coins when necessary etc etc. If you PoS mine its the same thing, watch price, volume, level II, research. Everything requires work, and this game is competitive.

If you don't have time to manage your PoW miners, then don't mine.
If you don't have time to move coins around to reduce dust and cpu load, then don't mine.
If you think this coin will give you something for doing nothing, then please take your money elsewhere. Everything requires some level of effort.

Whoever started to stake those 30 day+ coins deserves to mint every PoS block until they receive all their rewards. That is the deal that was handed to everyone when the coin was launched. Changing parameters to favour one type of miner over the other isn't fair and to change the rules in the middle of the game will discourage any future interest in this coin.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks sir.

Tranz,
Thanks for the info.  The wallet has since sorted itself out (I closed the wallet, rebooted, and opened).

Does anyone else have info on what I need to do for proof of stake work? Does the wallet take care of it by default, or do I need to do something? If the coins sit in my wallet for 10+ days and I open it again am I good? I'd rather verify that I'm all set now (or modify something) than wait 10 days and find out I need to do something.

- VR

The Proof of Stake wiki page that Tranz linked to gives most of the information you will need for staking. Read through it carefully and come back if you have more questions about the process.  You can let the coins sit in your wallet for ten days and then they will begin to compete for stake.

Hey guys,
I just got into HoboNickels. Two days ago I downloaded, ran, and sync'd the current 1.3 win qt wallet.  This morning after opening the wallet it now says:

WARNING: Checkpoint is too old. Wait for block chain to download, or notify developers.

I'm fairly new to crypto's ingeneral, but I dont understand.  Do I just wait a few hours or do I need to download something or notify the defelopers? When I click help -> about it says I'm running HoboNickels version "1.3.1.0-gc722bd8-hobo"

Is it safe to transfer my mined coins to my wallet in this state?

Additionally I want to setup  Proof of Stake on my wallet.  I found a great post the other day on bitcointalk, but cant find it now.  Can someone please link me to info on setting up PoS?

Thanks,
- VR

Sometimes on the first sync that message can reside until the client fully up to sync with the network. Sometime you need to shut down after you are completely up to speed. It should go away on its own.

You can always check what your current checkpoint  is by using the debug window ->console then type getcheckpoint.  The time and block should correspond to getinfo.

Code:

11:59:40

getinfo

11:59:40

"protocolversion" : 70003,
