I am buying some altcoins now since its cheap, and holding some bitcoin as well but then we really do not know what exchanges would support the fork. The novaexchange confirmed they are not supporting any upcoming forks.
i would not shift from alts to btc. i would hold btc and invest in alts because they are cheap.
i think btc will correct when the fork has been done, then many will go in alts again.
this is my opinion.

I am balancing between both, Bitcoin and altcoins, there are some altcoins which definitly will go up after the fork IMO, I bought some cheap coins, and in the same time I am holding Bitcoin.
I prefer to hold bitcoin, because although many altcoins are in the red zone I really feel unsure that this is the right time to buy altcoins. one reason I say that "because I have tried it and I lost enough"
I think both options alone are bad. You should hold bitcoin and also buy undervalued coins because there are lots of perfect coins beside lots of trash ones.
Focus on altcoins in #20 they are mostly very low price. Any of them have a potantial to jump x2-3 just after the fork. I would buy more altcoins instead if holding more bitcoins.

Both choices are fine. You will be able to earn through any of methods, if you consider the rate of the cryptocurrency that you are about to buy, then you'll surely profited. You can buy bitcoin, but in a reasonable price and you can also buy altcoin at their decreasing rate, but choose alt coins that have good reputation, alt coins that are reliable and stable enough to stabilize instability. or Buy more altcoin in the red zone of Altcoin

I definitely agree with this suggestion. Both coin mention was a quality coin that good to hold by this time. So its better to divide money in this two coin so that before the fork this coming october you already had this coin. And hopefully the price of bitcoin and ethereum is continue to move up, so when the time comes that you are going to sell your coin, will going to have a big profit. 
I always do both but I prioritize to invest on bitcoin compare to other altcoins , Bitcoin investment was good it price was slowly increasing over a long period of time , I don't like to invest large money on altcoin because of the high possibility for it to become a deadcoin .
For me, I will spilt 50% of my fund to hold BTC to receive free Bitcoin Gold and the other 50% to buy altcoins in dip. Just beware, I am expecting Bitcoin to have a small dip after the fork.
I would prefer buying more altcoins. I believe you can get more in altcoin trading than what you can get in the free bitcoin gold. As of writing, I don't have any idea how much will a bitcoin gold be but I am almost sure that altcoins will rise after the fork, so better ready your bags.
I am not going to buy more BTC, just because of the bitcoin gold fork. I dont think that it will be a success. I prefer to buy the bloody alts in these hard days!

for me this red zone is to buy altcoin especially my hold list, some people buy bitcoin now just want to receive free money from bitcoin gold

Bitcoin is constantly increasing, besides, you get 1 BTG when hardfork is successful.
While the altcoin price is very low, I think it will increase when hardfork takes place.
The problem is that you buy what coin and divide how much your money.
Since its all red now and most of the altcoins are on sale, most traders would say it's shopping time. So I'd buy altcoins now and make sure these coins do increase when bitcoins price go low after the fork.
Probably the best time to sell BTC and buy alts is straight after the fork. But if everyone is doing this, you'll need to be quick. Alternatively if you're not bothered about bitcoin gold, then any time between now and the fork is fine to buy alts.
Maybe hold bitcoin and wait for bitcoin gold after this u buy again altcoin
i think better buy more altcoin, because until now i didn't heard about exchange or wallet that will support this Bicoingold,,
